431950 tn?1262819314 Someone told me that a hormone inbalance can cause the CA 125 count to go up or for that matter other factors can make the count go up. My count has been rising every month but it jumps 20+ points each time, it hasn't jumped 100 points at a time at all and my dr has said he is not concerned yet.
Avatar f tn The % you have just indicates how strongly positive the tumor is, in regard to being positive for that hormone receptor. A high % means it is more likely to be beneficial to take tamoxifen or an AI, but even when the score is low, these drugs may still be effecftive. See below: " If your hormone status tests are scored only as negative, it is good to ask your doctor for a number that indicates the actual score.
1743133 tn?1311182382 Does anybody believe that caffine (particularly coffee) can cause increased numbers on the CA 27.29. I would value some clarity on this one. My last two month to month tests have been trending with elevated numbers from 11 to 17 to 30. I have been falling back in love with my morning coffee and just wondered if this could be the culprit. I hope so! Going without caffiene for a month now to see if there will be a change in my numbers in the desired direction.
1408491 tn?1284682899 There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone. This is the type my wife was Dx with granulosa cell ca. These group type are called sex cord -stromal tumors. These type of tumors have specific markes that the Dr's use just like ca-125 to aide in their dx of epitheal ovarian ca. They are Inhibin A&B and MIS.
Avatar n tn I know that since my CA & thyroid hormone levels are normal now, so symptoms should go away, but how quickly can they go up? Is it common for CA levels to fluctuate in and out of normal and high ranges?
Avatar f tn 1. Off thyroid hormone, the Tg level rises - making it a more sensitive test. With new tests though a Tg of <0.1 on thyroid medication is a useful as being off medication or using thyrogen to stimulate Tg. If those lesions were metastases, then the RAI would hopefully treat them -- this can be followed by I-131 WBS and/or CT scanning, as well as the trend in Tg levels.
198460 tn?1264872267 I am 38 years old, pre-menopausal and I had put off my annual gyn exam for almost two full years and finally decided I needed to go since in my early 20's I had hpv and I know I should not put these things off. In late 2008 I had a breast lump removed and it turned out to be a benign fibroadenoma. Yay! Anyway, since my doc has an US machine in his office, as soon as he felt my enlarged right ovary he whisked me off to get a TVUS.
1134902 tn?1296066144 anywho my question is...could this be caused by a hormone imbalance brought on by my intense workout? even tho Im only spotting, Im still cramping. My family doc is booked up until the new year, so I can't see her anytime soon.
Avatar f tn She was taking thyroid hormone replacement medication because she had had her thyroid removed years ago for a goiter. Because of an awareness of the association between excessive thyroid hormone and osteoporosis, I checked this patient's thyroid function. As I suspected, she was hyperthyroid due to taking an excessive amount of thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn I am sorry you have to go threw this, it is very stressfull to have this hanging over your head. Keep in mind most cysts are benign!! My wife was recently Dx with granulosa Cell cancer( GCT) Jan 2010 and I know what it is like to not know the next step will be. Here is an overview. Tests like sonograms, Cat scans and MRI's along with blood tests like CA125, Inhibin A&B, MIS and CEA are just used as a guides for the Dr's to help assist in making a diagnoses(Dx).
Avatar n tn Since her numbers are so high at diagnosis I think her ca-125 is very sensitive, which means her numbers can go up very fast without showing any disease progression on a scan. My numbers were quite low before surgery and my ca-125 is not sensitive for me. When my numbers start to rise a recurrence is on my horizon. I have had 2 recurrences and both times the numbers were low like 82 and this last time 54.
Avatar f tn ve always been healthy and exercised, but in February of this year I had what seemed to be a period. My family dr examined me and ran some hormone tests and said it was just changes due to menopause. I continued to feel bloated, fatigued and developed extreme constipation. I called my dr back and he referred me to a specialist, but I couldn't get in to see the specialist until last week (June 2009).
Avatar n tn Soy has plant estrogens. If your cancer is estrogen sensitive I would be very careful about using any product with "isolated soy protein.
Avatar f tn 4 months while watching CA 125 rise with no cancer on CT scan Doxil: 10 months Taxol: almost 2 years Carbo: 6 cycles finished July 29, 2010 (My CA 125 went to 7 and my CT scan was clear for the first time since my initial recurrence) After the 2nd cycle, I developed a hypersensitivity reaction but because the chemo was working so well, they then used a desensitization procedure. Very tough but worth it because...
Avatar n tn Hi Trudie, The complex cyst was seen on an ultrasound (Sept.07)at was ordered by my regular doctor and the report was given to my gyn (first gyn). He really didn't say to much about and was not at all worried. Then in Nov.07, I decieded to go for a second opinion due to some cramping that I was experiencing in the pelvic area. This gyn decided to send me for an transvaginal ultrasound and my first ca 125. The results were as I stated above, normal ultrasound with elevated ca 125.
Avatar f tn Request PTH (parathyroid hormone), ionized calcium and serum calcium blood-work for parathyroid. Here's a good parathyroid resource: www.parathyroid.
Avatar f tn At my cancer center they try hormone blockers on everyone who has NED and a rising CA-125, even if they haven't been tested for hormone receptors. Albeit they don't use Tamoxifen. Hormone blockers may stop the cancer from progressing, and they say if it doesn't, what did you lose? My center uses the aromatase inhibitors such as Femara because they said they are seeing better results with it and they are a little safer.
431950 tn?1262819314 I don't know what is high for recurrent ovca. We are all different. I have had 3 recurrences and so far each number was different. The first one was 83,the 2nd time it was 54..and this time it's only 13.9. So who knows My onc will treat based on scan reports...as so many of us have different levels of sensitivity with the ca-125. For me my ca-125 isn't very sensitive,so when my numbers go up I have something coming on.
Avatar n tn I have had hormone and tumour marker blood tests done, All levels are normal except for CA 125 which is 58. The cyst appears to be stable and has blood flow around it so doesn't appear to be twisted. I am being advised to have a surgical procedure next week in Singapore, a laparoscopy which may turn into a bigger operation should anything of concern appear. The medical facilities here are good. But I am not a local and don't really know who to go to.

Avatar m tn Hi, I m anu. I m 25years old and not yet married. Some days before I went for a regular health check up and came to know that I have a cyst of size 3.6cmX4.2cmX4.3cm in my left ovary. Then I went to a doctor & she immediately suggested for a CA-125 blood test. The result was 108.3. My doctor told me that I might need some surgery followed by a biopsy of the cyst. Here I felt that I need a second opinion. So I changed my doctor.
Avatar n tn Sounds more like thyroidosis to me, your thyroid is a bit enflamed...if there are discreet nodules, i.e., round solid masses that have vascularity I would be more concerned, but I am sure you are having a follow-up with your doctor to discuss it...don't panic! This does not sound like a huge deal, only a hormone problem...get the follow-up and the doctor will explain what is going on.
Avatar n tn Hi, Recently, three weeks back , my mother-in-law found out a tumor on her leg and consulted doctor. They suggested for various scans and ca 125 test also.Later they found that she had been effected with ovarian cancer and is in stage 4 The CA levels are intially 2400 and later she had gone chemotherapy and now the CA 125 level reached to 3600. Can anyone please suggest about the stauts of her health.Wat precautions need to be taken care ?.
Avatar f tn I felt he was sensitive and kind but was honest and straight concerning what he knew about my ovarian mass. He said that the size of the mass was about the size of a golf ball. He explained that while the MRI said that I had a suspicious looking mass he would have to examine the ultrasound to look into the type of mass that it could be. He took blood for the CA-125 and said that the number that comes back would determine the direction of my treatment.
Avatar n tn I DONT KNOW IF ITS BEEN ALL THE EMOTIONS SURFACING FROM MY MOM BEING DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CA ON DECEMBER 19, 2008. I IMMIDIATELY PAGED MY DR WHO CALLED ME RIGHT BACK. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE ACTUAL PERCENTAGE OF LUMPS FOUND TURN OUT TO BE MALIGNANT TO WHAT IS FIBROADENOMA?
