hormone

Avatar f tn s disease (a pituitary tumor) and was really overweight. I lost some weight put on by my tumor, and then depending on what replacement or testing, I gain or lose. It is just not fun. Your replacement dose of cortisol is on the low side, so I would have to say that I doubt, as a layman even, that your cortisol replacement is the issue and you appear to be taking to replace a normal body. I would though think that you are completely centrally hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn I struggle with my weight as it is and i have heard that with a total thyroidectomy and going on synthroid weight gain is an almost certainty. Can anyone shed light on this..I am considering a partial and if its cancer having it done again. Good or bad decision?

Avatar m tn Low testosterone has lots of effects like fatigue and weight gain. It can also make it harder to lose weight. So my metabolism may not be the most important thing right now.

Avatar n tn How long post op are you? and are your taking hormone replacement? when I know this I can give you a more informed opinion.
2059648 tn?1439766665 For instance, the low tsh value you report from 13 years ago would not be associated with weight gain but would be more indicative of hyperthyroidism and weight loss. And a hot nodule would more likely suppress tsh levels than increase them. I will leave any discussion of treatment options for those who share your symptoms. But that said, it seems the real issue is your fear of weight gain vs afib.
Avatar f tn You have to have adequate thyroid hormone levels, from your thyroid gland and/or from thyroid med. Although weight gain can be related to a number of things, certainly one is low metabolism due to low thyroid levels. If you will post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on your lab report, we can try to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment. Also, what thyroid med are you taking and what dosage? What symptoms do you have other than weight gain?
1559779 tn?1294781858 Although weight loss is more often a symptom of hypERthyroidism and weight gain a symptom of hypOthyroidism, they are not reliable symptoms of each. Many of our members find that they gain weight whenever levels are not optimal, hypo or hyper, and some lose weight hypo or hyper. Do you have any other thyroid symptoms? Fatigue and/or drowsiness, cold or heat intolerance, constipation or diarrhea, decreased or increased heart rate and/or blood pressure...you can google a complete list.
605458 tn?1539228808 My psychiatrist knows to NEVER prescribe something that is known to cause weight gain. I read that the Lupron Depot can cause weight gain. What about a hysterectomy? Will you gain weight too?
Avatar n tn s thyroid has been ablated and she makes no thyroid hormone on her own, she will need to take replacement hormone for the rest of her life. A branded type of levothyroxine is the best, but there are others besides Synthroid that she may prefer. There is also T3 (cytomel) but taking that is a tiny bit more complicated. There is also Armour which contains both T4 and T3. Some people feel that they do better or worse on different things sometimes.
Avatar f tn I'm a 41 yr. female and for the past 3 years my "normal" weight has gone up approximately 25lbs. In addition to my weight, I'm moody, more so than I believe is just my standard PMS as it seems to come & go all month, I never feel rested despite going to bed relatively early each night, and I suffer w/ insomnia requiring 1/2 an Ambien 4-5 nights per week. My previous MD has drawn 2 TSH levels (11/05 & 6/07) and I was told the results were "slightly" elevated.
Avatar n tn Most weight gain is not thyroid related - even in thyroid patients. Armour is one way of treating hypothyroidism - it can be over-stimulating and some patients get anxiety, palpitations and tremors particularly if the dose is too high. Hypothyroidism has many sympotms - would go to the following link to read more http://www.aace.com/pub/thyroidbrochures/pdfs/Hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Dear yes139, I do understand that your daughter has features of constipation, weight gain and has some abnormality in blood results. Your first daughter's TPOab (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody) of > 1000, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and FT4 (tetra-iodothyronine) is normal with a low T3 (tri-iodothyronine). Your daughter is probably suffering from autoimmune thyroid disease due to Hashimotos disease. Her thyroid functions are normal as her TSH and FT4 is normal.
Avatar n tn I also have night sweats, weight gain and sore breasts. The joint pain and hip stretching is the worst. I bought progesterone cream and was planning on using it to see if it helped. Have you found any other answers?
1467697 tn?1286428419 She is tall for her age (top of the growth charts) She began thyroid hormone replacement at the age of 3 weeks and has never missed a dose. How old were you when you began thyroid hormone replacement? Was it caught early in life? Also, just to reiterate what Stella and Red said, you should always take your thyroid replacement medication and never skip so thay you will stay euthyroid and feel your best. Do you take vitamins at all? My daughter is on several that have helped her feel her best.
Avatar f tn He hasn't checked my hormone level. I might call them to see if they can. I talked to my cousin who is a PA for a gyno's office and she said it's a huge complaint and even people on hormone replacement are still complaining of weight gain. I hope I find an answer soon. Ive gained 20 lbs in 4 months.
Avatar m tn I have discontinued the use of the meds for about a month or 2. I am concerned about weight loss /weight gain and other health issues. I have been told that you cannot live without a thyroid or the replacement meds. Was wondering if anyone had luck with the natural herbs.
Avatar m tn About 13 months ago I had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor and I am now on full hormone replacement. For the most part my recovery has gone great. However, I believe I do have problems with either the dosage (.125mg) of my thyroid hormone or the drug itself (levoxyl). I have an endocrinologist that has been with me since the surgery and they refuse to change anything because my T4 level is in the "normal" range at 1.5.
Avatar n tn Hi I m sona and I m also have thyride and I want to gain weight . My weight is 37 kg form last 7 years and I m 26 years old plzz suggest me what I do????
Avatar m tn Have any of you had success with hormone replacement. The symptoms I mainly want to fix are fatigue, aches, erectile problems, weight gain, and the feeling of not being well. Also I am planning to have kids soon I have read that testosterone replacement therapy can cause infertility is this true? If so is their anyway around it? I want to have kids soon , but I hate feeling this way. Does insurance pay for TRT or do you guys pay out of pocket?
Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....
