Avatar f tn 1) Natural Dissected Thyroid. This is natural thyroid from pigs and I think is about 80% T4 hormone and 20% T3 hormone. Many Dr's don't like this as they believe the dosage is irregular due to the fact that it is a natural source. However some people need the addition of the T3 hormone and find this medicine works the best for them. The two common names in USA for this are; Nature Thyroid and Armour 2) Pure Synthetic T4 medication.

Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn Natural thyroid hormone production can decrease when you start thyroid replacement so you can experience worsening of symptoms to start with while the thyroid medication builds up in the blood. This usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks.
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine, also called L-thyroxine, is a synthetic form of thyroxine (thyroid hormone). In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.

Avatar f tn And as stated above if you are low on hormone, the ONLY way to increase it is to add hormone in. And since you cannot get actual hormone without a prescription, I'm afraid the options are limited. That being said. Many of the symptoms of hypo are also common to being deficient in some other vitamins and minerals. And THAT is something you can do about.
Avatar f tn We are not doctors. This is the members' form, and we are fellow patients. It depends on the person. For some, the one lobe is sufficient to produce enough thyroid hormone, and they don't need to take meds. For others, the single lobe cannot keep up, and they then have to take thyroid hormones to compensate. The major thryoid replacement hormones are under the generic names "levothyroxine", "triiodithyronine" and "dessicated porcine thyroid".
Avatar f tn All the synthetic thyroid hormone replacement meds are called levothyroxine. From there it breaks down into: (1.) Generic (non-brand) levothyroxines. (2.) Brand named levothyroxines. Examples of brand named levothyroxines would be Synthroid and Levoxyl. Hope this gives you an idea but do suggest you do more reading up. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Thank you, But I don't think my gyno would know she doesn't know that much about thyroid cancer/nodules and I need a good endo who specializes in this! I have been on ratemds.com or something similar but I don't know if it's a great way to know how good of a doctor they are. I did see a few names that were listed by The Hormone Foundation and the former Thyroid Association of America.

Avatar f tn Depends on the blood test. One only looks for the hormone and one tests the exact amount in your blood. (can't remember the exact names of them at the moment though) The first one can be wrong, while the other is rarely wrong unless a lab error was done.

20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar n tn Your cortef is meant to act like what your body used to make, but is not making anymore - so it is a replacement hormone. It should not interact with other medications as your dose should be low enough that it should not be causing side effects. You can talk to a pharmacist and they should reassure about the medications if you cannot speak to your doctor's office. One thought though - if you are taking too much cortef - it can cause diabetes.
