Avatar m tn as the results reveal important molecular mechanisms that enable ordinary liver cells to divide and repair tissue damage. This may point to ways of using ordinary liver cells for therapeutic purposes, as these cells may be easier to use than stem cells," says Head of Clinic and Professor Bo Porse who has lead the investigation.

Avatar f tn The scientists that really do the immunological and molecular biology studying the dozens of suspected causes of MS have not found any (read that ANY) scientificv basis for the "yeast theory." The proponents of that theory have been active for the last 25 years. First it was the cause of all allergies. Then fatigue. Then ADHD. Then autoimmunity and MS.

Scientists Discover New Gene That Affects Clearance of Hepatitis C Virus Jan. 9, 2013 — Scientists have discovered a gene that interferes with the clearance of hepatitis C virus infection. They also identified an inherited variant within this gene, Interferon Lambda 4 (IFNL4), that predicts how people respond to treatment for hepatitis C infection.

Avatar m tn In this phase I/II clinical study, the treatment has so far been safe and tolerable. Samples taken before, during and after treatment showed that before vaccination the patient did not have a detectable cell-mediated immune response against HCV but such an immune response became detectable after treatment was completed.
Avatar m tn The findings, published in Nature Genetics, were replicated in two smaller population-based studies, one in the Netherlands and the other in Germany, and in a clinical group followed by the International Headache Genetics Consortium. "Inheritance of any of the genetic variants alters migraine risk by about 10 to 15 percent," said Schuerks. The influence of these genes is probably not large enough to be immediately used as a diagnostic tool.
Avatar n tn I never heard of this new inteferon, good info. I don't know anyone who is on this trial and the information says that they're barely on phase I trials and still recruiting in the US. They have had other trials in India or SouthEast Asia with promising results. Top link is about the lambda inteferon and the other two are just information. good find http://www.natap.org/2009/HCV/011309_01.htm http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00565539 http://www.lambda-cro.
Avatar m tn I was wondering who would be responsible for medical advancements and new inventions? Do doctors get time to do clinical trials or is it a separate group of researchers with probably a biology degree who does it. (But they have no experience of patients). Seems it is done with collaboration? But looks like anyone can write white paper.

Avatar f tn Hi All, I'm female, 37, and been living in Phoenix for 4 years. Diagnosed vitD deficient this September (also borderline anemic; all other levels normal) at the student health center. Level was 14 with minimum level 30. Symptoms were fatigue for no reason, extreme difficulty concentrating, and feeling dizzy. Prescribed 50,000 units D2 per week for 14 weeks; I'm about halfway thru. Dizzyness is gone and fatigue / confusion improved right away upon taking prescription.

Natural topograpghic features could help a particular variant to gain a strong presence since it would not have to compete with as many outside geno/subtypes for dominance .
