Avatar f tn Talk to doctor he said my metabolism has slowed due to the med, as well as low estrogen, Any advice? weight is at stand still even with exercise and moderate food intake, water.
Avatar n tn Do you know what lab tests have been done and if so, do you have copies of the lab reports? Do you know if you've had any antibody testing done? It's really hard for members to answer your questions without knowing what your thyroid levels are. If you have a copy of your latest lab report, it would be most helpful if you could post your results, along with the reference ranges, since different labs use different reference ranges.

I know that my testosterone is low for my age. I plan on losing excess weight and see what happens from there.
Avatar m tn The thyroid plays an important role in regulating the body's metabolism and calcium balance. The T4 and T3 hormones stimulate every tissue in the body to produce proteins and increase the amount of oxygen used by cells. The harder the cells work, the harder the organs work. The calcitonin hormone works together with the parathyroid hormone to regulate calcium levels in the body.
1134902 tn?1296066144 anywho my question is...could this be caused by a hormone imbalance brought on by my intense workout? even tho Im only spotting, Im still cramping. My family doc is booked up until the new year, so I can't see her anytime soon.
Avatar m tn Abnormal body weight, either over or under is mostly controlled by a balance of what you eat and the metabolic rate or the body's metabolism (Speed) When your metabolism is fast, you burn off the fat, thus stay slim. If your metabolism is slow, you have a problem burning off fat and become overweight. Your Thyroid has much to do with the metabolism, in your case, your thyroid may be secreting too much hormone causing your body's metabolism to burn off the food you eat.
Avatar m tn as the t3 level in this case is within normal range, the test report (lipid profile) corroborated that the metabolism is fine. so, the case may not be termed as 'hyper or hypo-thyroidism'.i am perplexed!! please respond.
Avatar n tn Your thyroid produces the hormone T4 which is converted mostly by the liver, although on its way it comes into contact with protein, some is carried away by this protein, what gets converted is Free T4, after conversion, the contact with protein occurs again, some T3 is carried away, once it contacts protein, it is not usable by the bodies cells, so what is left is Free T3, the active hormone your body functiosn by, when ths hormone is low, your body slows down (Decreased Metabolism) The Pituita
Avatar n tn Free T3 is the most active thyroid hormone, and largely regulates metabolism. If you are under medicated or incorrectly medicated, there is no way your metabolism will be at the level that is normal for you. I think you might like to read a previous post that I found to be so very interesting, because it is about the effect of thyroid on metabolism. by pickdaisies , Apr 18, 2009 05:27PM I was having some major problems with my metabolism.
Avatar n tn It regulates your metabolism, and produces a hormone that every single cell in your body uses. Without that hormone, every cell would fail, eventually.
Avatar n tn More research on thyroid hormone action and metabolism is underway, but new treatments/medications are not yet available.
Avatar f tn As I've mentioned in my previous post, I have the strong feeling that I have a hormone imbalance. For 3 years, I've been overemotional/irritable/nervous, have had light/skipped periods, persistent acne,(I'm 20 and I don't feel like this should be happening), and hot flashes. These problems have gotten progressively worse over the years. The problem is though, that I feel like I have the symptoms of both estrogen dominance and estrogen deficiency.
Avatar f tn Anything that effect metabolism might effect thyroid metabolism. I would assume if anything it would lower levels to hyper direction, not make them higher to the hypo direction. Although you are not exercising while being tested, so maybe there is no effect on levels at all (?) during the time of testing, that is, unless you did acute aerobic exercise just before testing or couple hours after exercise.
Avatar f tn I would say that there could be a relation yes, at least theoretically, but an endocrinologist would be able to answer this question correctly.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know if having your Gallbladder removed slows down your metabolism? or does it speed it up? What have you experienced?
Avatar f tn If you really want to kick-start your metabolism, you may also try dividing your meals up into smaller portions that you eat more often throughout the day. Every time you eat, it helps your metabolism rise, so as strange as it may sound, eating frequently can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Take care!
