Avatar m tn That's interesting, I've been taking melatonin for over a year (since getting clean) and I still feel mentally blah a lot. I wonder if that is a contributing factor. Thanks for the info. Btw, your racing heart is from detox. At 25 days, you are still in wd even though less acute. It is very normal and it will slowly but surely pass.

Avatar f tn http://www.dpeg.org/treatment/methadone_withdrawal.htm but its for any withdrawals.... Melatonin…dosages vary…this is a hormone released from the pinal gland in the human body at night time for sleep…this is essential for those coming off opioids…in my experience as little as 1 mg to 30 mg has been effective…do what you have to do…I’ve had addicts coming off $100.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, there are hormones and neurotransmitters and receptors which play role in sleep and wakefulness. Melatonin is one such hormone and it appears to be the primary sleep-regulating hormone of the body. It is secreted in relation with normal day/night cycles. It affects sleep itself, decreasing sleep latency, increasing sleep efficiency, and increasing the total sleep time. Melatonin acts on the melatonin receptors.
Avatar f tn i study in school about it.. it really is just a hormone that your body creates on its own. given that said it should be fine to take it. ask your doc first though. thats jus my opinion of knowing what exactly it is.
Avatar n tn what type of sleep aid can I take with ciprofloxacin? Is melatonin safe? I am taking it because of a urinary /bladder infection 500mg. for 5 days.
Avatar f tn t get back to sleep - so often I will take 3 mg of sublingual Melatonin. It puts me back to sleep, but I have vivid dreams, and it almost feels like I am even more exhausted when I wake up from them. Does melatonin give you all three stages of REM or is it mostly to help with the most superficial phase, the dream phase? I understand that melatonin is a hormone secreted at night, and how it is not a drug, but I am just wondering if there is a link between dreams and melatonin.
Avatar m tn Melatonin Anyone know anything about Melatonin I am 21 days clean from TRamadol for 4 years then the sub program which took 3 weeks now i just can't sleep it's driving me crazy...But I don't want to take Melatonin if in the long run it's a bad idea....
Avatar f tn Hello there, You can try melatonin which can be bought from a food supplement store. Melatonin is basically the ''sleep hormone'' it it produced naturally from the pineal gland in your brain and light and darkness have the most influence on it's production. More light, less melatonin, dark = more melatonin produced to induce sleep. It also have powerful antioxidant effect, boost your immune system and can prevent ischemic damages.
757137 tn?1347196453 Many thanks for your reply. I suffered for decades from insomnia, at one point so serious that I suffered short-term memory loss. Nothing seemed to help. Not Ambien. Not melatonin. Not Halcien. Nothing. Then I started to take a Lugol's solution supplement. That helped the insomnia somewhat. With that improvement I tried melatonin again with better results. I have been taking the melatonin (2 mg.) for about six months and am loathe to give it up.
Avatar f tn Well, it certainly should help him fall asleep sooner - which may be her idea. It sounds like you have researched this pretty well. I don't think our opinion is going to matter much to your ex. I think you will need to find a professional for that. I was able to find one report from consumers union which I am posting here as you need the paid subscription to read it. (don't tell). Hope this helps. Melatonin Natural therapy Hormone that controls your body clock.
Avatar f tn I just wanted your thoughts and experiences with melatonin. Has anyone been given the OK to take it? Or told not to? I figured since it was a natural hormone that it would be safe. Still waiting to hear back from my doctor. Just trying to find ways to help me sleep better. I'm 21 weeks. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamineis) is a hormone produced by the pineal gland somewhere in the brain. So it is naturaly produced by this gland when its dark. On most sleep products that contain melatonin, it says on the package do not take if you have an endocride disorder. So thats a good enough reason for me. I researched it once on the web, forgot the details, but since it did not make me more sleepy, I just dropped it anyway.

Avatar f tn Long term use of indomethacin can result in gastrointestinal adverse effects. Melatonin is a hormone secreted by pineal gland and is very similar in chemical structure to indomethacin without the risk of gastro intestinal side effects. That’s the reason melatonin is now being considered as an effective treatment option. Patients with history of severe allergies are advised not to take melatonin in general. Hope this answers your question!

Avatar f tn Since Melatonin is the master hormone that controls sleep patterns, many parents find that it will induce sleep in their ADHD children and help to alleviate the insomnia and sleep disturbances that go along with ADHD and ADHD treatment. Melatonin has been shown to reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, lengthen the time one stays asleep, and increase daytime alertness.
Avatar f tn s so added 1/4 teaspoon that in warm milk... still no sleep help... my melatonin has worked for many yrs... but ofcourse i've needed more and more of it... at this point i likely need to stay off melatonin for week or more to reduce the tolerance built up and the tired worn out receptors of it to refresh reset... dixylamine succinate and phenylhydramine chloride still getting me to sleep but getting near resistant to them too.
Avatar m tn When we are going thru withdrawal and have gone 30 hours without sleep, and just need something to push us over the edge into sleep, I think melatonin is great. It is much better than taking ativan, sleeping pills etc. It also can help during the few weeks where we are unable to sleep after withdrawals. Many people try different things to help them sleep. Nyquil, Benadryl, Sleepytime teas, Alteril etc. What works for one may not work for you.
Avatar f tn I take melatonin and have for all three pregnancies and planning on taking for my forth. My doc says 3mg is fine. Safer then most other sleep aids. As with everything there is risk. All of them do.
1872071 tn?1320287532 Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in your brain. It doesn't interact with Zoloft. That said, melatonin doesn't work very well for insomnia but fortunately doesn't have the numerous side effects that most insomnia medications do. The best treatment we know of to date is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia which a Harvard study in 2004 demonstrated was better than medications and didn't have any of the side effects or long term expense.
Avatar f tn Valdoxan is the brand name for Agomelatine which is a melatonin agonist (meaning it provides a similar function as melatonin). Melatonin is a hormone naturally present in everyone's body that helps regulate when we go to sleep. Melatonin is sometimes given to help insomnia (along with other melatonin agonists) but they generally only provide a relatively small benefit. That said, they're probably pretty safe (though sometimes expensive).
