Common Questions and Answers about Hormone meds

hormone

Avatar f tn s functionally dead or not, TSH is the least important of the tests. As you say, TSH is a pituitary hormone, influenced by many factors other than thyroid hormone levels. FT3 and FT4 are much more direct measures of thyroid status.
Avatar f tn i feel i should take both effexor and prozac together and my mirtazapine at night for at least 2 weeks then come off the effexor. what does anybody else think? or has anyone been on these meds and has any info.
Avatar f tn and unattached hormone. Once the hormone is attached to a protein it is useless. Total test count a combined total of both free and attached hormone. So you have absolutely no idea what proportion is free and available for use. This is why it ONLY makes sense to test for the two actual hormones that are used by your body. I also agree that you have probably been under medicated the whole time. And a Dr who ONLY uses TSH will have you on a roller coaster ride of hell up and down.
797256 tn?1237636468 Hello, I am writing because I have lots of symptoms of PCOS and 5 years ago I went through fertiltiy and found that I have PCOS, but now 5 years later I had my hormone levels taken just by family doctor and they say they are normal but what is normal. Can anyone help me? I don't have periods, I grow hair in places you don't want and more here are the lab results from lab. Estradiol (estrogen) 26 pg/mL FSH 5.0 mIU/mL LH 12.2 mIU/mL These are the ones they have done. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn m a 59 year old who has been taking synthroid 125mcg for about 19 to 20 years and when they do a tsh level it shows I am still low but my doctor will not raise or lower my meds and my bp is really high around 168/96 to 98 and he put me on lisinopril40mg and clonidine1 mg but yet my bp is still up. I'm trying to loose weight but its not coming off at all and my hair is falling out. Could this all be because of the medications I'm taking? Does anyone have the same problems?
621426 tn?1221537052 I had a complete hysterectomy back in December, no meds have been given to me since then. I had already menapaused at 36 an 9 yrs later I had the hysterectomy. I have become agitated very easily, anxious, and depressed. I believe it has something to do with my hormones or lack of them. I went to a Dr.
Avatar n tn I am starting to think I may be suffering from a hormone imbalance as my symptoms seem to go when I start my period. I also suffer from inability to sleep, mood swings cyclical depression, facial hair, hot flushes as well as cold and irregular periods, I am now having 2 periods a month, one really light and short and one a week later that is pretty severe....
Avatar m tn We went to have multiple tests done and they confirmed that im producing next to no growth hormone, or something of that nature. Over the last couple years, I noticed that my friends have been getting taller, while im not. They said that if I dont get hormone injections, my platelets? will close and i wont grow at all. I am considering it and am wondering if there are any severe side effects the medication may have.
Avatar f tn The FDA makes it illegal to sell any product with any measurable amount of hormone in it. While diet can help with weight and overall health, nothing will help your thyroid. Some say gluten free helps but it normally helps only for people who are gluten intolerant and really dosn't do anything for the thyroid but only for them to feel significantly better otherwise. Natural Dessicated Thyroid (NDT) is only "natural" in the sense that it is not completely man made.
Avatar f tn I have been taking thyroid meds for hypothyroidism since 1991 and have had a rash and intense itching ever since. No one can fix me for long. Does anyone have any idea what I can about this? Prednisone clears it up, but as soon as that is out of my system, it comes back. Creams only help temporarily. I need a permanant fix. I am ready to just not take the meds and let what happens, happen.
1256167 tn?1269628350 So, with reading all I shouldn't eat/take with in a rage of time after taking my meds I'm wondering, would it be a good idea to take my meds at night instead? I know that you all are not doctors and I really should leave it up to the suppervision of my doctor but......HE'S A QUAK!!

718868 tn?1230730029 Does anyone know of any other type of hormone I should ask my physician about, as I am getting very weary of being this age and unable to do very much from my body being so tired and weary. Thank you for your time.
1797743 tn?1389213685 I just finished listening to a podcast with Janie Bowthorpe and she discusses Dessicated thyroid hormone meds vs the typical stuff we've been prescribed. she menitoned a few of the sublingual versions and I was wondering if anyone has tried these and what your opinion is of them. The podcast was great and very imformative. Now I have a lot of questions for my doc.
Avatar m tn Your mom's test results are very much like mine a while back when I was on a T4 med. In trying to relieve symptoms, my meds were increased to where T4 was very high, TSH was <.05 but T3 was in lower third of its range. This was apparently because my body was not converting T4 to T3 very well. I still had hypo symptoms. You did not indicate whether your mom is already on meds. Either way, could it be that she does not convert T4 very well either?
Avatar n tn i am tired of trying all these different things and nothing is correct. i am going to see a hormone (actual doctor) next week but i don't want to have to take hrt. Breast cancer runs in my family and have heard that can be linked to it. any advice would be of great value. i feel so alone.
Avatar f tn Progesterone, which is the driving hormone after ovulation, causes a slow-down in the digestive system. Taking progesterone can also cause an increase in constipation and abnormal bowel movements (been there, done that, but not IBS). Have you also thought about having yourself checked for endometriosis which can have an impact on bowel symptoms? That was my first indication of an endo problem, severe pain and constipation around my period.
Avatar n tn WELCOME to this great community! Isn't it awaful it takes so so long to get the meds right! I wish I could help with the labs but not enough exp. with T3 and T4's, etc. I think others may be able to help ..
Avatar f tn How much time was between the m/c and the levels rising? Is it possible you could have gotten pregnant again? It's possible to get pregnant in the first cycle after a m/c. It's also possible you were pregnant with twins and only lost one, with the other one hanging in there. What does your doc say?
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine, also called L-thyroxine, is a synthetic form of thyroxine (thyroid hormone). In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar m tn I am 27 years old, male and I feel I have hormone problems but despite years of doctors visits and research I cannot figure it out. The problem is I cannot afford the trial and error method of dr.'s tests and visits so maybe someone can give me a bullseye to aim for. OK here are my symptoms, (hold your breath) I have night sweats that soak the bed sometimes especialy if i go to be with the blanket over me, I get hot easy at night. I dont sleep well.
Avatar f tn TSH 3.26 ref range 0.40-4.50 Free T4 0.9 ref range 0.8-1.8 Free T3 2.9 ref range 2.3-4.2 I've experienced a 27lb weight gain since the surgery, insomina, brain fog, always hot, etc....Should I ask the doctor for thyroid meds? Thanx for any input!
1052292 tn?1274457092 s really going on with your thyroid hormones. TS is a pituitary hormone and can be influenced by many factors other than thyroid hormone levels. 3.23 is technically slightly hypo (range 0.3-3.0), but as I said, very questionable to use TSH when not backed up by FT3 and FT4. Your symptoms do not sound hypo, but hyper (or overmedicated). I think you have to have the frees tested...they'll let you know what's really going on.
