Common Questions and Answers about Hormone levels ovarian cancer

Avatar f tn I also read medical papers which indicate that my hormone levels are suggestive of ovarian failure, (my periods stopped dead in August) which can be caused by a bacteria, but this can only be confirmed with a laparoscopy. It will be some weeks before I can see a gynae on the public health service, so unfortunately I have to either sit it out or pay for the whole thing privately. All feelings of shame aside, a "straightforward STI" might have been so much easier to treat!!
Avatar n tn No other study has linked this particular hormone combination with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. It is also helpful to think about these findings in another way. In women taking placebo, the rate of ovarian cancer would be 27 cancers per 100,000 women per year. In women taking E+P, the rate would be 42 cancers per 100,000 women per year, an increase of 15. Even if this effect of E+P is real and not a chance finding, ovarian cancer remains a rare disease in women taking these hormones.
903997 tn?1300023490 Does anyone know whether or not an ovarian mass would affect hormone levels? Lately (on and off) 've been feeling a bit down, up and down, somewhat depressed..menopausal of sorts, but not certain as I haven't had my levels checked. I'm 42 years old. Perhaps perimenopause? I'm scheduled to have mass and ovaries removed in a few weeks.... if that's not depressing enough!
Avatar f tn please let us know what your repeat level is take care Inhibin Inhibin is a peptide hormone normally produced by ovarian granulosa cells. It inhibits the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by the anterior pituitary gland. It reaches a peak of 772 +/- 38 U/L in the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle and is normally undetectable in the serum of menopausal women. Granulosa-cell tumors produce inhibin and its serum levels reflect the the tumor burden.
Avatar f tn When I was pregnant with my little boy 6 years ago my obgyn told me I had cysts but they weren't bad (they checked it). That day I found out my family (on my mom's side) has ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cysts. I don't have medical insurance and I don't get paid enough to see anyone about it, but it has me worried that something isn't right, I'm usually normal but instead I've missed 4 periods.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar f tn I do not think cervical cancer is a genetic / inherited cancer. Of course ovarian is. It sounds odd that they said you are in menopause but your body forgot to stop bleeding. At age 53, it is still very reasonable to be menstruating. Average age of menopause is 51 but many women go years beyond that.
Avatar f tn s as a guide to determine if you have the most common form of ovarian cancer, approximately 80% of all ovarian cancers are epitheal ovarian cancer which is cancer of the cells on the surface of your ovary. Please keep in mind that CA-125 can be elevated if your menstruating and some other cuases of inflamation.. There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone.
Avatar n tn Causes of post menopausal bleeding could be ovarian cysts, endometriosis, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, thyroid hormone imbalance, cervicitis and cervical cancer. Your doctor may consider tests like blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone. Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan or MRI brain may also be recommended in certain individuals.
1408491 tn?1284682899 There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone. This is the type my wife was Dx with granulosa cell ca. These group type are called sex cord -stromal tumors. These type of tumors have specific markes that the Dr's use just like ca-125 to aide in their dx of epitheal ovarian ca. They are Inhibin A&B and MIS.
Avatar f tn These menopausal symptoms can also be the result of chemotherapy, ovarian ablation, and hormone therapy. Women can get relief from these symptoms by opting for Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women. It helps in balancing the estrogen and progesterone levels.
Avatar n tn what can cause ovarian cancer? can hormone for menopause cause it,? any headache medication?
Avatar f tn Recently, a new hormone marker, anti Mullerian hormone (AMH), has been evaluated as a marker of ovarian reserve. AMH is produced in the granulosa cells of small ovarian follicles. Serum AMH levels from women are lower than those in men throughout life. One potential advantage of using an AMH test as a marker of ovarian reserve is that it does not seem to change over the course of the menstrual cycle.
Avatar f tn Hi jojo, Why not come visit us on the Ovarian Cyst Forum. This forum is primarily for Ovarian Cancer and there probably will be more folks replying to you on the "cyst" forum. You could also check out the Hysterectomy Forum. I had my ovary removed when I had the cyst removed but I'm also post menopausal so it really isn't the same as it is for you.. Pop on over to the Ovarian Cyst forum and post this over there..
Avatar f tn Just to add to what Lauren said regarding tamoxifen vs. other AI's, they do work differently in the body. Tamoxifen works by blocking the body's use of estrogen, whereas AI's reduce the amount of estrogen present in the body. In studies of breast cancer patients, AI's have proven to work better than tamoxifen in preventing recurrence, and there are far fewer serious side effects with AI's than with tamoxifen, too. Tamoxifen can cause blood clots, and stroke..
Avatar f tn Is it possible to have such a high number without it being ovarian cancer. I know other factors elevate it, but to that high of a level?? I'm getting an MRI next week and eventually surgery but until then im searching for some hope?
Avatar n tn Normal for what? Do you have ovarian cancer? why are they repeating the test? There are numerous reasons why a CA125 would jump that are not cancer related.

Avatar f tn I know the CA125 test is more useful in assessing the efficacy of ovarian cancer treatment than diagnosing ovarian cancer. Some sites don't even mention the AFP test for ovarian cancer but for other cancers, specifically, liver, testicular, brain, mediastinum, blood. With your family history of ovarian cancer, have you considered genetic (BRCA1, BRCA2) testing?
