Avatar m tn s nice to actually be warm on occasion. The hair loss is terrible. I have dark hair and fair skin so it is pretty noticeable and coupled with the weight gain I am having serious self esteem issues. I'm also immensely fatigued. This is not new but is intense. I've also started waking up early and can't get back to sleep which is only making the fatigue worse. Not sure if there is any other relevant information but please let me know if anything else is important.
Avatar f tn You may even want to consider a short style until at least 6 months postpartum, when estrogen levels return to normal and hair loss is minimized.
Avatar n tn I have all the symptoms of hypothryroidism but, my doc. say the lab tests are all normal. I had a test in Jan.07 for TSH that was 1.299, in Aug. of 07 (TSH) of 1.031, again in Feb, 2008, I had the T4 which was 1.20 and the T3 which was 3.5. Are they normal or is somebody missing something. I'm always cold, constipation, hair loss, etc. If it isn't my thyroid what is it. The doc.'s have done every test possible. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have this problem too. Asked my midwife about it and apparently its fairly common during the first trimester, but if it carries on later into pregnancy then you may have to have blood tests to check hormone levels. It's more common when carrying boys as when testosterone is starting to be produced, it can carry into your own blood and cause hormone imbalances. I never had this problem with my first(girl), and having a boy this time.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had hair loss post tx, like 1 yr. later. I am having alot of hair loss in the past 3 weeks. I am also wondering if it is o.k. to take hair vitamins. Not currently on tx. I take fish oil, garlic, vit D and calcium. I think since I am not on tx. that this is O.K. Am I wrong?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response - i appreciate it. Is there a difference between free T3 and free T4 to just T3 and T4 (I know it has been tested, I just am not familiar with the exact terminology)? My levels were recently low, so i was given a higher dosage of synthroid (I went from 150 mcg to 175 mcg). I just have a hard time believing that there is no other cause of my hair loss - I didn't have hair loss before I was diagnosed or for the first 7 or 8 years while taking the medication.
Avatar n tn Even in aging when hormones change naturally - hair loss is prominent. Key is to keep you hormone levels in check and keep the body functioning as normal as possible. Alot of anti aging material is out there that concentrates on adrenal fatigue - thyroid and sex hormone levels to learn how to keep the body in optimal preformance to slow this process down. Reading about hormone balancing in a natural way along with testing for depletions is so important as we age.
192918 tn?1199451179 So this is a very silly question - but I'm having A LOT of hair loss....to the point that I'm getting some ugly bald spots (not at all pretty on women!!) When I finally get on the right meds, will my hair grow back or will I always be stuck with bald spots/thin hair?
Avatar f tn My thyroid levels are normal taking armour and still having hair loss. Could it be the medications? I was on all the different thyroid meds. and still had hair loss. Would anyone be able to help?
Avatar f tn There have been lots of members with hair loss due to insufficient levels of Free T3 and Free T4. I'd bet my money on that being the cause of your hair loss as well.
Avatar n tn I've been treated for hypothyroidism for the past 6-7 years. In November, my endocrinologist said it would not cause any further harm to stop synthroid for 3 months and then recheck levels to see if my hair loss stopped. Unfortunately, my TSH level skyrocketed to 91 and my cholesterol was high as well. So I went back on synthroid (100 mcg). I'm still suffering from hair loss and am become quite concerned/stressed/depressed.

Avatar n tn D should be at least 50 ng/mL, B12 in the upper end of the range, and ferritin should be at least 100. Hair loss like you mention is likely due to inadequate thyroid hormone levels and also low ferritin. If you want to confirm what I have said, click on my name and then scroll down to my Journal and read at least the one page overview of a paper on Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypothyroidism: A Patient's Perspective.
Avatar f tn Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones.
Avatar n tn I am in the process of having my cortisol levels checked but the doctor does not feel it necessary to check female hormone levels. I have had a complete hysterectomy 18 years ago and have never taken HRT. At this point the hair on the crown of my head is thinning and I have an extra 20 pounds that will no go away. I eat a very excellent diet with minimal carbs and good carbs if I choose to eat them. I exercise 3 days per week at a local gym for one hour each day. HELP!!!! What can I do?
Avatar n tn But, every few years my thyroid just burns out, and I go hypo. When I do I experience extreme hair loss and brittle nails. For me, the animal based thyroid substitutes work much better when I'm in a hypo phase. Additionally, sometimes when I am not hypo, the medication I take for my Graves' just knocks down my T4/T3 levels so low that once again I start to lose a lot of hair.
797256 tn?1237636468 Hello, I am writing because I have lots of symptoms of PCOS and 5 years ago I went through fertiltiy and found that I have PCOS, but now 5 years later I had my hormone levels taken just by family doctor and they say they are normal but what is normal. Can anyone help me? I don't have periods, I grow hair in places you don't want and more here are the lab results from lab. Estradiol (estrogen) 26 pg/mL FSH 5.0 mIU/mL LH 12.2 mIU/mL These are the ones they have done. What does this mean?
Avatar m tn Human Studies Using Combination Nutrients To ascertain the safety and efficacy of nutrients that are purported to modulate male hormone levels, the Life Extension Foundation sponsored clinical studies to assess the effects of specific supplements on blood levels of testosterone, estrogen, SHBG, etc.
Avatar n tn My scalp is very dry. I'm having excessive hair loss. Can dry scalp cause hair loss? I have a prescription shampoo for dry scalp which directs my to use twice a week. But it seems when I wash my hair even more loss occurs.
Avatar m tn You likely have significant hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormone) as demonstrated by the high TSH. (TSH goes up as thyroid levels fall). You also have anemia which could be related to the thyroid condition or may also represent some blood loss, or iron deficiency. The suggestion to test for pernicious anemia isn't likely because your MCV is relatively low and in pernicious anemia (lack of B12) the MCV should generally be more than 100.
