Common Questions and Answers about Hormone guide for men

hormone

Avatar m tn Low growth hormone should mean more testing - however, insurance in the US (and I assume elsewhere) will not pay on the IGF-1 test as growth hormone pulses so you can take it at different times and it would be different so you have to have several tests to show low and then a stimulation test in order to get medication. I take it myself. GH should also be tested at least once just for source.
Avatar m tn You need to be tested for thyroid antibodies to determine if your hypothyroidism is caused by Hashimoto's. That's an autoimmune disease, in which your body sees your thyroid as foreign and produces antbodies that destroy healthy thyroid tissue, so it can no longer produce hormones. As the antibodies destroy the thyroid, hormone production is less and less, so medication dosage has to be increased periodically, to take up the shortfall.

Avatar n tn Clomid(taken daily as a pill) prompts the pituitary gland to make luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, which tell the testicles to produce testosterone and possibly more sperm.

Avatar f tn Hi Everyone Does anybody know what high DHEA sulphate means? I have known polycystic ovaries so im assuming it is linked with this but I would like to know if this is going to affect my fertility? been trying to conceive now for 3 years with no luck. Thank You.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been confused as to where to go to ask this as I'm trying to understand some things. I understand a lot of what happens to men when they have one of these let alone 3. My partner (or whatever he's calling himself right now) was just diagnosed with all 3. I knew something was very wrong but needed to research it to figure out what I was seeing: depression, fatigue, weight gain, no motivation, no sex drive, rage, confusion, inability to make decisions, frustration..

Avatar n tn One of the hot flashes lasted in excess of 3 hours and left me completely drained of energy. For the past 5 months I have been on a tablet Angeliq and although the hot flashes are less, they still occur at the most inconvenient times. The doctor recently advised me to add a Premarin tablet (the green one, small dose) to the Angeliq and I now have one or two hot flashes every day. It is getting to the stage where I feel that I cannot take it anymore and don't know which way to turn.
Avatar f tn :-) aww! They don't all cheat. I promise. Read "An Idiot's Guide to Intimacy" ! Seriously. It was really eye opening for me b/c I was always one to "blame the guy", too but after reading it, I realize I have my own intimacy issues, too.
Avatar m tn Any men out there who found that their erectile dysfunction / libido returned with treatment?
Avatar f tn It is still very tough and yes, I wish men could remotely understand what this is like. Most men cry over a cold, they have no idea what this is like. Hang in there and know you are not alone.
Avatar m tn Another Japanese study examined how the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA (found in high concentrations in fish) affected SHBG levels in men 43 to 88 years of age.24 After controlling for other variables, the researchers concluded that both EPA and DHA decreased levels of SHBG in middle-aged and elderly men. 4. Indole-3-carbinol protects against high estrogen levels, prostate cancer.
Avatar f tn Yeah, sadly it sounds like you happen to be with an as$hole. Have a talk with him, and try to settle it, or even take him to the doctors office for your appointment, and have the doctor explain the hormone changes, and why it's normal to not want sex all the time. He may be more inclined to listen to a medical professional giving a valid explanation, as guys usually find anything we have to say just us b!tching at them, and never listen.
Avatar m tn My recent growth hormones as per Insuline Tolerance Test and Glucagon Stimulation Test shows 1.1 ug/L, Cortisol also shown low, guide what are expectations, already on Synthroid 0.50 mcg,.
Avatar n tn If the thyroid levels are normal, then use a tape measure instead of a scale to indicate if you are advancing in getting healthy with your exercising and eating healthy. Measure your waist and hips as a guide for trimming down. As we exercise we build lean body muscle mass which weight more than fat so the scale reflects no weight loss when in fact the body is trimming down fat. The tape measure will measure loss of inches and your clothes will start to feel looser. Hope this helped you.
Avatar f tn I realize that this is kind of off the subject but, I would like your opinion on genetic testing. I am concerned that it will flag me and my family for health ins. and life ins. There is a question of whether my mother has men or not. There are 9 kids in our family, plus our children. I so far have had a single parathyroid adenoma and small goiter. I do have multiple medical problems that being treated, which include kidney stones. My labs are good except my K+, which is low.
Avatar f tn Sexual fantasies and reality are two different things. MANY people can become sexually aroused with stimuli that they wouldn't find exciting if they were in a real life sexual encounter. That doesn't make you gay, or doesn't make you interested in incest. There are many "taboo" porn categories, and they are very popular. That's basically what you're talking about. Let's face it, when sexually aroused, MANY things (or ideas of things) can turn one on.
Avatar f tn Bone loss is not associated with TSH, but is is affected by excessive thyroid hormone levels, which you do not have. For info I ws diagnosed with osteopenia/osteoporosis in the hip area about 3 years ago. The doctor wanted to prescribe a medication, but I said I wanted to fix it myself. After much research, I identified what was needed for good bone growth.
Avatar f tn s girl who is dating and in love with a guy who is 60. He is very active in life and really young looking. My question for you is when do men slow down and is it normal for a guy that age to lose his erection during sex. He can be going strong but then boom. It makes me feel like it's me and it makes me feel awful to be honest. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn The problem is that my Follicle is not reaching optimum size and this might be because of some hormone imbalance. FSH injections and Letroz tablets are doses for hormonal stimulation for follicle growth. However there are no tests done for LH, FSH, Estradiol and Progesterone but my Doctors said the symptoms are not to have these tests done. I am worried that 1) Is there a natural way to improve the hormonal balance? 2) Can my glands become dependent on external stimulants for forever?
Avatar m tn Adding in T4 as a conversion hormone for the direct T3 can - and sometimes will in the beginning - increase you appetite and you can gain weight - instead of losing. It actually can set the mind into a hunger phase and you could definately put on a few pounds. The hypothyroidism and the hormone abnormalities are the reason for the weight and until you get them balanced which can take some time - you may have to look at this as a healing time - vs - a quick fix.
401095 tn?1351391770 for someone who has her hormones fairly intact, there are more efficient ways of getting energy than supplementing with DHEA, a pretty potent hormone....i am also currently taking 4-5 hydros a day for chronic daily head and neck pain, but that is neither here nor there in this scenario with the DHEA....prior to my surgery, had no problems with energy, hormones, or any of it....bottom line: don't have a hysterectomy unless your actual life depends upon it!!!!!
Avatar m tn She is giving all reason for obs sleep apnea for all problems, not ready to treat at all. she was explaining that there may be some tiny stuff around Pituitary, not willing to go for dynamic MRI or any other treatment plan? reasons for her may be not expert for this.
Avatar m tn Well, men have hormones, of course. :-) Sometimes the hypothalamus misfires, and since it is in charge of sending hormones out into the body, the person can get hot or cold flashes. The doctor should definitely get your testosterone levels and be thinking about if your hypothalamus is operating as it should. And if it is not, why not. I also think there can be a connection between diabetes and hot/cold flashes, but let your doctor be your guide in diagnosis. Good luck!
