Common Questions and Answers about Hormone growth deficiency

Avatar n tn Any information or advice you can give me on this subject would be helpful. Also, I would like to know, how possible is a brain tumor when a child is growth hormone deficient?
Avatar f tn In terms of growth hormone, prematurity and intraventricular hemorrhage are not generally associated with growth hormone deficiency unless there are problems with other hormones also. It is most likely that your granddaughter's small size is due to her former general illness and prematurity. Babies like her need a tremendous amount of nutrition to achieve "catch up" growth, which can sometimes be hard to obtain if she doesn't eat extremely well.
Avatar n tn hI, my son now 15 underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Neouroblastoma at the age of four. He's been on growth hormone treatment for 3 years now but with no result. He's only 144cm tall and his endocrinologist says there's no hope because his bones have finished growing and the only suggestion is the bone stretching surgery. Can anyone suggest anything else?
Avatar m tn If your daughter is 12, actually the treatments are not really cosmetic. growth hormone while the name says growth, actually has more functions and some are very subtle like sleep and some are more real like muscle growth and bone growth. The social stigma of being different at this age can also have lasting effects - so if she starts to lose a lot of height and gets behind her peers, she may lose friends. It sounds shallow - but it really hurts and it does happen. It is just that age group.
Avatar m tn Hello, If your sexual organs are too short it can be due to testosterone deficiency, pituitary hormone deficiency, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and growth hormone deficiency.Various investigations required are chromosomal studies, hormone studies like Gonadotropins (LH and FSH), Testosterone and DHT levels, thyroid hormone lvels, ultrasonography and testosterone therapy. I would suggest you to consult a urologist and discuss this possibility with him I hope that helps.Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn He has recently been diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. His MRI revealed an 8mm pineal cyst and a 5mm pars intermedia cyst interposed between the anterior and posterior pituitary tissue. He also has a lot of fatigue and gets frequent headaches/nausea. He will be starting growth hormone but we've been told that he cannot start the hormones until he sees the neurosurgeon (which is in a couple of weeks). Do you think the cysts may have caused his growth failure?

Avatar f tn Its probably genetic, or a deficiency of growth hormone ,I expect if they have checked him out they would know this .It is sometimes possible to treat with shots of growth hormone ,but the doctor would have suggested it had he thought it the way to go.You could ask him if there is anything you can do .

Three kinds of exercises are there for increasing the penis size which have proved little benefit. They include jelqing, penis stretching and kegel exercises.
Avatar n tn If his bone age is not advanced, I would rather wait longer to start his growth hormone instead of now. since his bone scan of May was not read corectly. I am not sure how fast his bone age is growing now. I am just wodnering if Lupron will be helpful.
Avatar m tn is the growth hormone in a normal range for a 23 year old? and i also took a blood test at my gp and for chemistries my liver function and kidney function is fine and my thyroid(tsh) is at 1.344 which is also normal.
Avatar n tn He is 41 inches and 34 pounds and is only averaging 2 cm of growth per year. He had growth hormone stim test a few weeks back and we got the results yesterday. His levels from the blood draws were: 0.8 4.6 11 12 7.1 6.9 3.8 Because insurance requires all numbers to be below 10 to be accepted we are going down a different route. His IGF-1 is low, his level is 32. I was told that it shouldn't be a problem getting insurance to accept that and we can treat him for the IGFD.
Avatar f tn I need to know...my 3 year old son had a growth hormone stimulation test and the levels for clonidine came back below 4 at first and then peaked at 13. Then arginine was administered and his levels stayed at below 4. Does this mean he has some form of growht hormone deficiency?
Avatar n tn in HCV patients, and 81% of the HCV+ sample studied had GH deficiency....then WHY are we not routinely tested for Growth Hormone deficiency by our doctors during our diagnostic workups, or after therapy. From the articles that I have reviewed so far, this deficiency is not benign, seems to have a wide array of damaging effects, and is very treatable to boot. Maybe the hormonal issues ARE indeed at the root of many of our symptomatic issues, as Merrybe stated in a thread below.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me that at the very least you have a strong case for the need for him to be tested. Lack of stamina (often called reduced exercise tolerance-same general idea) is the hallmark symptom of growth hormone deficiency and your son's lack of growth at a time when he should be growing rapidly sounds suspicious.
Avatar n tn Could the Rathke's cyst and other structure be putting out growth hormone contributing to her fast growth rate and large size? Do Rathke's ever grow and do they every have to be removed??
Avatar f tn This may be due to any number of possible causes such as growth hormone deficiency, low thyroid hormones, or insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) deficiency. Genetics, sleep, nutrition, and exercise are also factors for normal growth. I personally noted my nails started to grow faster when i corrected my magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency lists retarded growth in children. You mention heart problems so is she taking any medications for this?
