Hormone free desiccated liver

Common Questions and Answers about Hormone free desiccated liver

hormone

Avatar f tn What's the reference range for the Free T4? Ranges vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own report... Also, have you had a Free T3 test done? Free T3 is the hormone that's actually used by nearly all the cells in the body, while Free T4 is a storage hormone. It's not unusual to have suppressed TSH and low Free T4 when one is taking desiccated thyroid hormones. Many patients have to add a small dose of T4 only medication to keep Free T4 within the range.
Avatar m tn What are your actual thyroid hormone levels? The Free T3 and Free T4? Be sure to include reference ranges, since those vary lab to lab and must come from your own report. Some of us don't adequately convert Free T4 to Free T3, so must add a source of T3 to our medication regime. This can be done either with a synthetic T3 (cytomel or generic) added to your synthroid, or it can be done with desiccated hormones, which contain both T3 and T4.
Avatar m tn Has your doctor prescribed you a thyroid replacement hormone or ordered further testing, such as Free T3, Free T4 or thyroid antibody tests? If Free T3 and Free T4 were done on the initial test, please post results. Any test results should be accompanied by reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report.
Avatar n tn You should ask your doctor to test Free T3 and Free T4, as well as thyroid antibodies, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAB) to determine if you have Hashimoto's, or not.
Avatar f tn What desiccated hormone are you on? Did the doctor not test the freet3 too? You must know this number, especially when on desiccated as it has a large amount of t3 in it. Remember, t3 is the active hormone and t4 is the storage hormone that must convert into t3 in the body. By looking at the freet4 and TSH number, I'd say you probably need to raise meds by 1/2 a grain. It takes awhile to adjust to the t3 in desiccated, you will probably feel better with a slight increase.
Avatar f tn I am somewhat surprised that your Free T4 and Free T3 levels even went up on that small dose of thyroid med. Makes me a bit suspicious of the results. It will be interesting to see your next set of results. I say this because it is not at all unusual for a hypo patient starting on meds to find that their levels do not rise or even sometimes go down slightly. The reason is that serum levels are comprised of both natural thyroid hormone from the gland and also thyroid hormone from meds.
2159711 tn?1336833090 They contain both T4 and T3, but because pigs produce a lot more T3 hormone than humans do, desiccated hormones have a lot more T3, which is sometimes more than what you need. Some of us find it easier to control levels of FT3 and FT4 by using synthetic drugs, such as synthroid (or generic levo) and cytomel (or generic T3), because we can adjust them individually, as needed. It's all individual choice.
Avatar f tn This does not seem to be your case but I do not know your labs. When on a natural desiccated thyroid medication the Free T3 and Free T4 MUST be looked at each time increases or decreases of meds occur. This product has a direct T3 natural hormone directly going into the system and the TSH is very unreliable on dectecting how well you are doing on the dosage you are taking. The product "Armour" has been changed since Feb 2009.
Avatar f tn I started on desiccated thyroid about six months ago. My doc has given me leeway to adjust the dose myself (within reason of course). Started with 1 grain Naturethroid and worked my way up to 3 grains when I finally noticed my symptoms were improved. But the relief only lasted about three weeks. I have been increasing my dose by a half grain every month or so and each time I have a "honeymoon period" then start feeling bad again after a few weeks. I'm up to 4.
Avatar f tn Tinnitus can be associated with being hypothyroid, which is a common occurrence for patients after a TT, until the biologically active thyroid hormone levels (Free T4 and Free T3) are optimized. So tell us about your different dosages of Synthroid, and when you changed dosage. Also any other symptoms you have noticed. And please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar f tn you should worry about whether or not your actual thyroid hormone levels, Free T3 and Free T4 are where you need them. What are your actual Free T3 and Free T4 levels? Be sure to include reference ranges, as those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.
Avatar n tn First thing to understand is that hypothyroidism is correctly defined as "insufficient T3 effect in tissue throughout the body due to inadequate supply of or response to, thyroid hormone". So it is not only the supply of thyroid hormone but also the response to it as affected by a number of variables I'll discuss later. Also, there is no biochemical test that is adequate for a pass/fail decision about a person's thyroid status.
Avatar f tn First off. You need to determine if you have actually gotten the FREE T4 and FREE T3 tests. If not you NEED to get those done. Total counts both "free" hormone AND those that are bound to a protein and are useless. Also in terms of T3's. Total I believe will count both FREE, bound and possibly even reverse T3's (RT3). reverse T3 occurs during conversion of the T4 into T3's. The body will make a mirror image molecule of T3 thus the name "reverse T3".
Avatar f tn Is TSH the only test you've ever had done? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones and give a better picture than TSH alone. TSH of 4.10 is still within the reference range, but for most of us, it would be considered hypo when we're on medication. Could you please tell me what medication you're actually taking?
Avatar m tn Recommdations for thyroid dr. On south side of Atlanta Ga? Also is it better to take synthroid or desiccated thyroid hormone for hashi. Age 55 male. Not sure if family doc is expert on thyroid don't want wrong meds I feel good now don't want to mess that up.
Avatar n tn Do you mean the FT4 is 0.07 and the bottom of the range 0.08 or do you have the decimal point in the wrong place and it should be 0.7 and the bottom of the range 0.8, which is what we, typically see? I think you're asking the same question you've asked, and has been answered a few times before. It's typical for FT4 to be quite low on a desiccated hormone, so we'd have to see what your FT3 is before answering your question fully.
Avatar m tn I should mention that most thyroid sufferers feel best when the Free T4 is 50% in iys range and Free T3 at 66% of its range, and the TSH supressed below 1.0 So since TSH is not important, You would want her medication increased to bring up those percentages, but it should be done in small steps, large dosage bumps do not help. Best to try and get her back on the Armour, The T3 will really help since it is the actual hormone the body functions on.
Avatar n tn can a child (10 years old) about 90 lbs take desiccated thyroid hormone to help boost his T4? Thyroid functions borderline...but has all the symptoms of hypothyroid. dry skin, listless, puffiness under eyes, periodic problems with concentration, fidity, etc. He also has been tested for allergies and has none.
Avatar f tn Her free t4 was kept very high in the range then, and her free t3 was very low when this was occuring (conversion issue). She has been on desiccated porcine thyroid hormone replacement (Nature-Throid brand) for 1 year now, which has t3 in it as well as t4. Her t3 is kept higher in the range now and her t4 is close to it (slightly under but above mid range) (more closely balanced then before when on Synthroid). I have also begun watching her diet better with limits on processed high carb. foods.
2033435 tn?1329943508 Your patient’s TSH may be low or undetectable, even though their free T3 and free T4 are within the reference ranges. Why? We are taught that the TSH always perfectly reflects a person’s thyroid hormone status, supplemented or unsupplemented. In fact, we have abundant evidence and every reason to believe that the hypothalamic-pituitary axis is NOT always perfect. In clinical studies, the TSH was found not useful for determining T4 dose requirement.
Avatar f tn That was 11 weeks ago and all joint pain is now gone, and her freet3 and freet4 are back on the high side of normal with low TSH. This is where she does the best! Where is your free T3 at? It is the active hormone that our bodies need at the cellular level to function properly. My daughter's t3 was always too low on synthetic t4 med. She was not converting the t4 adequately. This could be your issue too? You probably did have the new "bad" Armour.
663299 tn?1471101146 Far better indicators are the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. I do suggest that a good target for Free T4 is mid-range, and that is important. Also, Free T3 for many people needs to be in the upper third of its range, or as needed to relieve symptoms. Also, effective treatment does not require a bio-identical hormone doctor.
Avatar f tn Did you have the actual available thyroid hormone levels taken---Free t3 and Free t4? Free t3 corolates best with hypothyroid symptoms and many people feel better when this is kept higher in the reference range, as t3 is the biologically active hormone. You have to keep in mind that Synthroid is only t4 (storage hormone) that must convert to the biologically active t3.
Avatar m tn t there a medication that can increase the conversion rate of Free T4 into usable Free T3? I thought I had heard of a natural (pig?) hormone that does just this and so rather than experience a weight gain from a hypothyroid, the conversion of Free T4 into usable Free T3 helps to prevent this potential weight gain which might occur from increasing the Free T3 with medication. Thanks for any information that you have!
3065790 tn?1340728823 I agree that TSH is a pituitary hormone and that in a perfect world, it stimulates the thyroid to produce T4; the thyroid also produces some T3. The thyroid produces T4, but of the amount produced, much of it will be bound by protein and unusable; therefore, you need to measure Free T4. Free T4 is considered a "storage hormone", which can't be used, directly, by the individual cells; therefore, it must be converted to T3.
