Avatar f tn I know that the testosterone could be the culpret with hair loss, but the suddenness of the hair loss makes me question whether it is the cause. I have an appointment in a few weeks with my GYN to discuss my October lab work. I am in my late 50's and I don't think that many women in their 50's and 60's know how much better testosterone can make you feel - energy and sense of well being. I hope that I don't have to give it up.

But, I know some patients that are very particular and they prefer one brand of medication (or even one specific brand of generic meds). If you don't like one brand, it is okay to be adamant about asking your doctor to switch to an alternative thyroid medication.

I was wondering which method would be better: a very low dose hormone replacement treatment regime of estrogen and progesterone, or a controlled herbal remedy such as pueraria mirifica. Which is a better idea? PS I will see a doctor about this before doing anything, but wanted other -- and maybe personally experienced -- opinions, so please don't just say "see a doctor.

Avatar m tn We have a lot in the media about Anabolic Steroids and teenagers who have abused them having no clue what they are doing. This has the unfortunate effect of a biased opinion whenever I try to get an honest answer. My question today graduates to pro hormone use, I hear from people it is always bad to take pro hormones as a younger athlete. As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. Avatar f tn I'll try to be brief. Age 49, perimenopausal and losing hair. Hair replacement specialist sent me to a "medispa" for hormone balancing by a physician. My hormone blood levels were tested mid-cycle. He determined that my hormone levels were "normal" but not "optimal". In the course of this workup, he ordered copies of all my old breast exams, PAP's and bloodwork.
Avatar n tn Sounds like your estrogen levels are taking a nose dive; could be possibly related to your hair loss. That is a major complaint of some women experiencing peri-menopause and menopause. FSH levels are different from the estrogen but it all ties in together. Perhaps you could discuss with your physician about having female hormone levels drawn. Female hormones can affect your thyroid function too, but from the numbers you gave your levels are ok for now.
