Avatar n tn Besides optimising thyroid hormone levels so your metabolism speeds up, the low carb high fat diet is something to consider. High-fat ketogenic diet fuels rapid weight loss, say obesity experts... "But Westman says rapid weight loss isn't the only benefit of a ketogenic diet, which has been found effective in treating epilepsy, reverses type 2 diabetes, and preventing heart disease. New research indicates the low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet fights depression and bipolar disorder.
482089 tn?1208351876 Many experts recommend you take vitamins or supplements with iron at least two to three hours apart from thyroid hormone. Iron can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption if taken too close together. Be careful about taking calcium and calcium-fortified orange juice at the same time as thyroid hormone. Allow at least 2-3 hours apart, so absorption is not affected. Don't take antacids within two hours of thyroid hormone. Allow at least 2-3 hours apart, so absorption is not affected.
Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.
Avatar f tn Calling all in London area! UK. I live in Ilford and need a good thyroid specialist. I used to see Prof. Maisie at Guy's iin London but that was about 25 years ago. My nearest private hospital is Spire Roding, Redbridge or Holly house, Buckhurst Hill. I'll go to NHS hosp. in Central London with pleasure but round here, no thanks unless someone has had a really good experience with a local specialist (get in touch with the Guiness Book Of Records!). I'm not being picky or a snob.
Avatar m tn "Is there any one reason for all these". Not sure the reference ranges for the SGPT or SGOT so don't know if they are out of range or not, but your TSH is too high, as is your Triglycerides, plus your HDL cholesterol is too low...... High TSH suggests hypothyroidism; hypothyroidism can cause high triglycerides and low HDL. Has your doctor prescribed you a thyroid replacement hormone or ordered further testing, such as Free T3, Free T4 or thyroid antibody tests?
976897 tn?1379167602 This is thought to be for making us more intelligent to find more food. So, how does the diet work. I will be trying the 5-2 diet, 5 days normal eating, 2 days diet. This has worked in many trials, lowing cholesterol, blood pressure, growth factors. It puts the cells into high repair mode and makes your body more youthful, not in looks, but in reaction times etc. Your major organs become more healthy. It also causes lots of body fat to be consumed.

Avatar m tn 156 lbs 13 % BF), added heavy weight lifting in 3x weekly, eat a low carb high vegetable intake diet with more than adequate fat content, etc. Sadly doesnt seem to be helping. I recently discovered I also have some serious heart issues on the go and that such issues frequently overstimulate the adrenals and the fight or flight response - leading to almost constant physical stress. Could that be a causative factor in the low testoserone numbers ?

Avatar m tn 1st welcome. 2nd you said you are in the UK and others on this site have described issues with the national health care in the UK and getting proper treatment so you are going to have to be VERY patient and persistent and you may have to do a lot of educating of yourself. Next I would ask if at all possible to get a copy of the blood lab results. In the USA the Dr's must by law provide the patient with a copy but I don't think that is true in the UK.

Avatar n tn t know about alkaline diet then this is what you needed. The alkaline diet is basically based around the idea that the foods you eat can alter the pH value of your body. Avatar f tn An Underactive Thyroid can be tested for in a blood test and you can get a hormone replacement and you are usually on it for life. In the UK this prescription is free. Fibromyalgia is a little more tricky but usually is identified by 18 points on your body by applying pressure to these points and if you score 11 you usually have Fibromyalgia. there is medication and treatment so don't worry non of these are life threatening.
846905 tn?1258817444 I too have gained a lot of weight, not losing weight while going to the gym and starting diet, and i haven't been able to get pregnant in 2 years other than that miscarriage. My acne is like yours, it will not go away and i am getting boils in my pubic area as well, and I had never had that before. Let me know what you find out... I have an appointment on Monday with a gynocologist and will see if that has anything to do with any of this.
Avatar m tn I am living between France and the UK. I have been hypothyroid for 12 years now and have always used the NHS in the UK to monitor my blood levels. My dose has risen to 150mg a day and I have felt well. However I recently failed to get my bloods tested on a trip to the UK and so thought I would go to the doctor in France for a referral to have bloods taken and tested.
Avatar f tn My scan showed a small Rathes Cleft Cyst but was not a problem? The hospital suggested I had some Hormone Stimulating injections to see what was going on...I freaked out and quit the investigation...STUPID I KNOW!!! So here I am still suffering with the same symptoms!
1363590 tn?1277807077 For a certain period I would go through a special diet rich in protein (no carbs) and meanwhile my body "thinking I'm pregnant" would start to get "food" from my body. Eating my fatness. So there I'd start to loose weight. My questions are: Is that safe? Would that somehow mess up my hormone system? What the side effects? Thank you so much;. God bless you. Marcella.
500923 tn?1210168927 Low carb diet - no bread - pasta - flour - limit whole grains - no sugar natural or artificial. Brown sugar Ok once in a while. Limit fruits high in sugar! Alcohol is sugar too. Limit milk products Maintain a high green veggie diet with lean "good" protein meats - hormone free! Nuts are good and yogart - I know it has milk - but it has many other supporting factors. It a tough change but you will adjust well and won't crave the other stuff after a while.
