Common Questions and Answers about Hormone diet insulin

hormone

Avatar n tn Out of all hormones human body produces, the only ones that passed the weight gain causality test ( if we inject the hormone into people, they must gain weight) are INSULIN and CORTISOL. The key to losing weight and get your metabolism to function properly is to lower the insulin and cortisol hormones. Lowering insulin is done only by not eating refined carbs.
Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.
Avatar f tn Do you have a copy of your daughter's blood work? If you don't have a copy of the lab report, your doctor is obligated to provide you with one, upon request. Always make sure you get one before you leave the doctor's office. Often when thyroid tests are done, they only test for TSH, which is a pituitary hormone and not reliable since it can fluctuate from day to day or even within the same day.
Avatar f tn I agree that diet pills are not the way to go, but it's true that Garcinia Cambogia can help curb your appetite. Green coffee bean would probably help, too, but it can cause rapid heart rate and high blood pressure. Be careful of that. I agree with eating lots of veggies, lean protein, such as lean red meats, chicken, fish, low/no fat dairy, etc. And of course, exercise is very important because it and protein are what helps build muscle and muscle burns fat.
Avatar n tn Besides optimising thyroid hormone levels so your metabolism speeds up, the low carb high fat diet is something to consider. High-fat ketogenic diet fuels rapid weight loss, say obesity experts... "But Westman says rapid weight loss isn't the only benefit of a ketogenic diet, which has been found effective in treating epilepsy, reverses type 2 diabetes, and preventing heart disease. New research indicates the low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet fights depression and bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn Type ONE is also called Insulin dependent diabetes because your pancreas produces NO insulin and you need this hormone to live. Type TWO is what over 90% of people with diabetes have - that is what you are thinking of. Type TWO can be controlled mostly by diet, exercise and pills since these simple changes can help the body use the insulin it makes more efficiently. DO NOT stop giving her injections - she will get very very sick.
Avatar f tn The dosage seems to be related to the number of calories you need in your diet and the amount of excess insulin your pancreas creates. It may take a year or two to work the right dosage. I was also prescribed Byetta which slows the metabolism and slows the release of insulin. Slowing the metabolism seemed counter-productive to me but it really works at keeping the insulin and my incessant hunger at bay.
797256 tn?1237636468 What does this mean? I am waiting for my insulin levels to come back to see if I am insulin resistant. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am on a strict high fiber low glycemic diet for insulin resistance. I also take medication for insulin resistance and low thyroid. I take medication for insulin resistance because my diet and exercise alone wouldn't control my low blood sugar attacks. I am far from fixed because until I lose the 30 lbs of fat I will continue to have these problems.
Avatar f tn Believe it or not by changing your diet (substituting sugar with artificial sweetners and cutting back carbs alone) and walking will show a difference in your numbers. Some are lucky enough after doing this to actually stop or cut back on some of the medications like insulin. I would talk to your doctor about a diet plan.
420566 tn?1321838556 I just thought I would post the following information. It may or may not be usefull but it can't hurt. I am originally from Denmark and my mother called me a few months ago telling me about a book called: Eat yourself pregnant, which is about lowering the insulin in your body as this is a direct cause of infertility for some women. I am following this diet and if it doesn't help me get pregnant than all it can do is make me a little more healthy.
Avatar f tn t lose weight with hyperthyroidism due to insulin resistance (high insulin means the body is in fat storing mode). I already had severe insulin resistance due to eating a high % of refined sugar in my diet (I do not overeat due to a poor appetite) but hyperthyroidism worsened my insulin resistance further and I also developed pre diabetes due to hyperthyroidism as well.
Avatar f tn I am not sure Metformin will help you lose weight unless you are exercising and watching your diet, but regulating your insulin will help get your body on track to losing weight more effectively.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the club... I'll be 65 in a few days, I also have hypothyroidism and I'm finding it nearly impossible to get rid excess weight. Menopause is often a time when we gain weight and when you have a hysterectomy, you're thrown into instant menopause. I'm assuming that since you have a thyroid problem, you're on a thyroid medication of some kind? If so, are you sure that's regulated properly?
903476 tn?1242237037 Ok I didn't know what forum to post this question in so I'm trying here because it is a Insulin problem. So Ok my insulin levels are 570 but my fasting glucose is perfectly normal. I've had this problem for quite some time now. When it was first found my levels were 130 thee doctors put me on the Metiformin for 2 years to level it out.
4784361 tn?1401231107 I didn't mean for you to give up. I've been struggling with hypothyroidism for years and along with that, I've struggled with my weight, when I never weighed more than 120 lbs in my life, before that and that when I was pregnant. You can imagine what if felt like to gain 30 lbs in < 3 months and not be able to get it off, no matter what I did.
Avatar f tn You're not losing weight, because you're building muscle. You should take your measurements instead of relying on the scale. Muscle is denser (molecules are packed tighter) than fat, so a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat, so your body could be getting smaller even though it's not getting lighter.
Avatar f tn it means you having polycystic ovarian syndrome thus is diseases of hormonal inbalance meaning more on male hormone lack of ovulation and insulin resistance. lack of ovulation results irregular period.
Avatar n tn We received the results today and tests confirmed that she is barely producing growth hormones at all and her insulin levels are completely off as well. Her blood sugar is fine, the doctor says she is not diabetic. The doctor has ordered an MRI to rule out a tumor. I am beside myself with this possibility and overwhelmed. Any information or advice you can give me on this subject would be helpful. Also, I would like to know, how possible is a brain tumor when a child is growth hormone deficient?
Avatar m tn The pancreas is the organ that produces insulin and release into blood stream. Insulin is a hormone that acts as a key to open the cells so the sugar can go into the cells as tranform into energy. When the production of insulin is low, you will have sugar trapped in the blood stream. when you test your blood sugar using the glucometer, the number you see reflects on how much sugar is trapped in the blood stream. hope this is what you are looking for!
Avatar f tn It is caused by problems with the antidiuretic hormone (vasopressin) that helps to regulate the amount of liquid in the body. The hormone is made by the hypothamalums which is in the pituitary gland. In diabetes insipidus, there is either not enough hormome being produced, or there is enough hormone but the kidneys fail to respond.
