nail

Avatar n tn They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.
Avatar n tn I had a pretty significant vitamin B deficiency causing megaloblastic anemia and required shots weekly for several months...Also, I have had problems with highs and lows of calcium, iron, and magnesium...I had a hair analysis done which revealed no heavy metal toxicities, but a deficiency in molybnium (? sp), copper, and nickle...and of course, low ferritin (showed in blood tests too)...My doc believes I have a borderline malabsorption problem and a low intrinsic factor...Something inherited...
Avatar n tn I have just been dealing with this same discussion in the last couple days, regarding toenail ridges and horizontal lines on toenails. I have found out about psoriatic nails, found in people with psoriasis, and ridges and peeling in your finger or toenails has to do with iron. High iron manifests in skin problems, and psoriasis is common in iron disorders. Google it with typing in peeling toenails or fingernails. Here is a link.
Avatar m tn What do the lines look like and are they colored? If you have fingernail fungus the topicals don't work. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
Avatar f tn I have had horizontal ridges on my fingernails for probably 10 years now. I have also had soft stools consistently for years now, which I have read could be a sign of too much fat in your stool. I notice that some type of liquid/oil comes off of the stool too, and floats in the water. The stool also sticks to the side of the toilet after I flush it away. Could these be signs that something is wrong with my liver? I have read that the fingernail ridges could be due to malabsorption.
Avatar n tn Really? Did you have a biopsy? if so what stage fibrosis? I didn't get any discoloration only the horizontal ridges across my nails. Hope they go soonish!
Avatar f tn Yeah, I have the deep ridges, and only 5 moons showing. Last year I had one moon. It's got something to do with hypothyroidism. Not sure what the exact cause is. Vitamin D deficiency is common with hypothroidism, too. I was taking twice the minimum daily whatever of vitamin D for over a year in multivitamins, and I still tested deficient. I'm taking a daily supplement now of D3, along with two multivitamins.

Avatar n tn Then all the other toes started to form horizontal ridges. I immediately thought I must be deficient in some vitamin. I have no doubt in my mind that the symptoms are all related after reading your post. I live in Ireland so I don't think this is a regional / weather related illness. I am going for blood tests tommorow so my question is how have you got on since and did you find the root of the problem? Would appreciate any feedback you may have?
Avatar f tn Beau lines (horizontal ridges on the nails) is a sign of injury or a underlying disease affecting the growth of the nail plate. Beau's nails can be due to conditions such as severe illness, Raynaud's phenomenon, pemphigus, chemotherapy, high fever. You numb toes/purple nails indicates likely Raynaud's phenomenon. Raynaud's can be primary or secondary (caused by an underlying disease, condition, or other factor).
Avatar f tn Horizontal ridges and white lines on nails are seen in trauma to nail bed, kidney diseases, pellagra or Vit B3 deficiency, low protein, arsenic poisoning, and liver diseases. Hence a kidney and liver function test should be done.
Avatar f tn Not sure if this is the right forum, but I couldnt really find a specific place to post. I've had quite large "pitting" and horizontal ridges in both of my thumbnails for quite a few years now. No pain, swelling, or any other issues, just the cosmetic appearance that bothers me. I'm a healthy person with no underlying medical issues that I am aware of and blood pressure is normal (I read that blood pressure issues could cause this).
Avatar f tn I take magnesium chelated with amino acids. There are various types of magnesium and some are poorly absorbed such as magnesium oxide with only a 4% absorption rate! I found a couple of articles with info on nail ridges and IST.... Steady Health - Ridges In Fingernails... "Reasons Behind Fingernail Ridges First and foremost, certain deficiencies in our organism, malnutrition as well as some other causes, may all trigger the appearance of these ridges upon a person's fingernails.
Avatar n tn hi, i wanted to get your insight on this. I have noticed an horizontal straight parallel depression across my thumbnail. like a little valley. but straight. It is directly in the middle of my nail. I have seen many things on the internet about this, but was wanting to see what u thought. I have been pretty stressed lately. Another question is, if its directly in the middle, do you know when approximately this could of happened to my nail?
Avatar n tn finger nails suddenly growing horizontal dips and vertical ridges.

681148 tn?1437661591 A magnesium deficiency can lead to malaise, fatigue, spasms, and many other problems. There are two kinds of anemia - Iron and Vitamin B. - Sometimes heart trouble will cause grooves or "spoon" nails. We would like to know what your doctor says.

Avatar m tn Hi I just want to know what can cause some or all of these combined symptoms, Hair thinning, lost of appetite, a few dark toenails but not all of them, 1 fingernail half light pink half light brown with vertical lines no ridges, wart on ball of both feet and lately some lost of taste (I'm thinking due to thin white film on tongue) I was a Severe smoker until recently when I stopped.
Avatar f tn I have horizontal ridges on my toe nails. I also have pains or aches I my neck wrists and sometimes hips I have a history of raynaurds my gp asked if I smoke the minute I replied yes he refused to treat me.
Avatar n tn 10, I had 2 months of preauricular swollen nodes that developed in the setting of severe bumps while I attempted to grow a beard. Lymphadenopathy has resolved. I also developed horizontal ridges in all 10 fingernails at the same time and that lasted 2 1/2 months, until the nails grew out. In the past 2 1/2 months, I have also developed brown arcs at the tip of my fingernails and toenails.
Avatar n tn Thanks...last night ok...might be related to my hefty exercises. One time thing. Odd...
