Avatar m tn Just because some works doesn't mean more works better. I don't know exactly how holy basil could cause neck pain directly. However, holy basil doesn't just reduce cortisol in some people -- nothing works the same in everyone -- it also can reduce blood sugar. In fact, many adaptogens can do this, including American ginseng.
Avatar f tn Trying Curcumin bcm 95 and holy basil for depression and anxiety disorder. Is it safe to add rhodiola rosea to this?
798555 tn?1292787551 Holy Basil lowers cortisol, it doesn't raise it, which is what you seem to be asking. I use it because I suffer from anxiety. While I don't have a known blood sugar problem, I do notice it can leave me a bit tired a half hour after I take it, which would confirm it's blood sugar lowering properties, anecdotally anyway.
Avatar f tn t know that it has any affect on depression. Holy basil is used more for regulating blood sugar and the adrenal gland, so would be more useful for anxiety. But you can take them together.
2109242 tn?1334114760 Ive tried, aspirin, advil, tylenol, oxycodone, holy basil, ive had open chest surgery in february (same as open heart), ive tried GERD medication its not that, and im currently 4 weeks on amitryptaline. Avatar n tn i recently gave up coffee, because it was triggering my anxiety symptoms, but the problem is that coffee always helped me to study, to concentrate on what i was reading, and to improve my memory. i tried to study the other day and it seemed hard to concentrate, but i don't want to drink it anymore in case it makes me anxious again. so basically, my question is - is there any other decaffeinated beverage that you know of that can help you concentrate, like a kind of tea or something?
Avatar f tn I'm on effexorxr150 mg.trazadone 200mg depakote 1000mg and zyreza 5 mg all 1x daily, Lately I have been real manic and still can't sleep I'm waking up with panic attracts and sweats. I just recently- 7-2-08 got off (went cold turkey) clozapanes. Recently I've started going to narcotics anonymous( duel addiction) and also started going on the computer checking my meds and interactions. Correct me if I'm wrong ,i read that trazadone and effexor should not be combined.
776302 tn?1241091853 I sometimes wake up 4 to 5:30AM. The only thing that works for me is Theanine Serene by Source Naturals. It has Magnesium, GABA, Taurine, L-Theanine, Relora(a blend of some herbs) and Holy Basil Leaf. If I can't go back to sleep after 1/2 hour, I take two of the above pills and will fall back to sleep in 1/2 hour. Since it is a vitamin with a few herbs, it is not addictive like some medicines are. I will sleep a few hours more with it.
Avatar m tn Passionflower is considered a systemic anti-anxiety herb, meaning regular use over a period of time helps the nervous system calm down. Quicker and stronger natural remedies would be kava and holy basil -- the first works on GABA, probably, and the second works on cortisol production, which creates the physiological symptoms of anxiety. Herbs that balance the adrenals, such as ashwagandha, might help as well. Valerian also helps some people.
15943846 tn?1444143284 You sound like a good candidate for a good psychologist to help you figure out why you react in this unwanted way. You don't say if you're on any medication, but if you're not you might try an herb called holy basil for the times when you know you'll be stimulated -- it helps control cortisol release, the flight or fight hormone. Don't take this if you suspect you have low blood sugar, as it also does this, which is a good thing for most people.
Avatar f tn Recently it has spiked again, possibly because of the physical stress of a back injury in October. I have taken ashwanganda, holy basil, and B vitamins and I get a little relief, but not enough. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
798555 tn?1292787551 s for relaxing the body and mitigating nerve pain and preventing seizures. Holy Basil is great for cutting cortisol and blood sugar, but yeah, it can make you tired, but so can herbs that target GABA such as passionflower or kava or valerian -- they're relaxants, so they relax you. Aswaghanda is an adaptogen, as is Holy Basil, and it does usually have a relaxing effect. What you're looking for is an energizing adaptogen that doesn't make you nervous, it sounds like.
Avatar f tn I have anxiety too and like you want to fight it without medication, good job! I drink Holy Basil tea. I've heard taking amino acids and a magnesium supplement helps...
Avatar m tn I have about 10-12 per minute and it used to bother me a lot. Then somebody suggested to take Holy Basil.
4643945 tn?1363372357 I have eaten my linit of whole fresh pineapple lol I have tried pressure points, sex, raspberry leaf tea, oregano and basil tea, egg plant parm with oregano and basil, castor oil, epo, bouncing on a ball, walking, cleaning the floors, coffee trick, and a few more things lol she is staying until Wed when I get induced!
Avatar m tn You can also try Holy Basil, that has a calming effect and its herbal so no altering of brain chemistry,
4643945 tn?1363372357 1 tbs of oregano 1 tbs of basil in a coffee filter with a twist tie (super ghetto lol) boiling water steep for 5 minutes. Then I put a rasberry tea bag in to help with taste some sweetener and drink!
Avatar f tn Hot tea has less caffeine and would be a better choice then coffee. It's recommended to stay under 200 mg of caffeine per day.
8146913 tn?1396730598 I have them too and they are annoying, but I have beaten Flycaster305 by at least 5 years. Something to look forward to. Recently a friend of mine suggested to take Holy Basil for my sleeping problems, alas, It didn't help. However, ever since taking that stuff - about three months ago - I don't feel the PVC's anymore. Either they are gone or I would have to check it with an ECG type device at home.
Avatar f tn all go along with the package. The best herb for reducing cortisol levels might be holy basil, which also reduces blood sugar.
798555 tn?1292787551 t doing it for you, try adding the holy basil to it. One thing I find -- my thing is anxiety -- that I get a bit tired after taking holy basil because I don't have a blood sugar problem, and that's also an indication it is lowering my cortisol. But that's an anxiety problem -- often we take stuff that helps some to lower peak anxiety, but then we get tired from it as the peak eases. Thyroid is different, as you're trying to get to a nice level place.

Avatar f tn They said everyone comes back for the Holy Basil pill. Gonna give it a try and see what it does. They also said that people say if they were on a deserted island this would be one comfort item they would want. Cant hurt. I also asked about RLS and they suggested the Hylands. I tried that already last night and did not seem to help. They then told me about Horse Chestnut pills. Weird name, but so worth a shot. Anyway, no pills since last Fri morning, so I know I am on my way.
1601803 tn?1298813859 Holy Basil is the one that I have been using. Seems to help. The health store told me it was their most popular one. Give it a try. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn Like your husband, I too only took laxatives for the prep, but also took laxatives for a surgery prep 6 months prior to the biopsies, I recently quit smoking a few months prior as well, and my diet had large amounts of green vegetables ( i'm talking %50 of what I ate in a day was broccoli, swiss chard, spinach etc) Drinking lots of tea ( but not diet/laxative tea!!) camomile, mint, green and also a holy basil tea ( which is not a laxative!
