Avatar n tn It is not possible to have HIV and have both negative HIV RNA testing and negative HIV antibody testing at the times your tests were done. I repeat: not possible. And test results always overrule symptoms and exposure history. The tests prove beyond all doubt that you did not catch HIV. Believe the results. You are home free and do not need any additional testing.
Avatar m tn Out of curiosity, I had a HIV blood test and a Hep C blood test done through my doctor's office approximately five months after my last possible exposure. How accurate are these tests? I've read three months is enough for an accurate result, but is repeat testing ever needed for HIV and Hep C after a period of five months to be sure of the result, or can this be considered conclusive?
Avatar f tn 5 months, you can be confident that you do not have HIV. You do not need further testing. You do not have HIV and have no reason to worry aobut HIV.
Avatar m tn This subject is discussed here ad nauseum. Anyone is free to decide for themselves when they feel comfortable testing. ON THIS FORUM, we adhere to the official guidelines, the doctors take a more liberal stance. Dr. HHH often posts a few links to posts he's made that explains in detail about testing protocols, and why they give the advice THEY do, and why we give the advice we do. They are a good read.
Avatar m tn My concern is I thought I was done with all the worrying when I got back on the Internet and read all this stuff about people testing positive after the window period when they used a different test assuming blood. Is oraquick really missing that many infections. I see here about 4-5 people a day have the same concern. I just haven't felt right since this sex act. Just wondering if anybody has had much experience with the oral testing method and knowledgeable of its accuracy.
Avatar m tn If you believe you have been exposed to HIV and want help to judge your risk, would like advice about HIV testing, or have questions about the effectiveness of condoms or risks associated with specific sexual practices, this is the site for you. You don''t have an HIV concern. * Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp.
Avatar f tn Your situation is not a risk for HIV infection. HIV is not transmitted through blood contact with skin of any condition.
Avatar n tn l also had my panick attack a few months ago and when l went to search the internet about HIV,l got symptoms after symptoms, all that was just worry and stress.
Avatar n tn sorry lizzie my bad. im over it now thank you.happy new year.
Avatar m tn Receipt of oral sex from a commercial sex worker in Ireland, followed by condom protected vaginal intercourse carries virtually no risk of HIV at all and no testing is needed, from a medical perspective for this exposure. Most CSWs do not have HIV and even if your partner did have HIV, the activities you engaged in id not put you at risk for HIV. Thus testing is not needed. You do not need to worry that the condom may have failed.
Avatar m tn is 4 week testing negative during these symptoms a good thing?
Avatar m tn A test result that is nonreactive does not exclude the possibility of exposure to or infection with HIV-1 and/or HIV-2. Nonreactive results in this assay for individuals with prior exposure to HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 may be due to antigen and antibody levels that are below the limit of detection of this assay". But H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D. say: «There is no such thing as a false negative duo test more than 4 weeks after exposure». Prompt, results in my case are how reliable?
Avatar n tn t conclusive but in one week I have developed a very sore throat. Can I be hiv postitive after one week of testing? My risk was a condom breaking during sex.
Avatar f tn s advice (or the advice on the HIV community forum) that you were given. Your risk of HIV was too low to even need HIV testing, except for anxiety relieve. The negative results you have had prove you weren't infected with HIV. Oral fluids and other rapid tests continue to be widely used in certain circumstances; they remain reliable in most settings. I do not expect any official guidelines on testing to change in the foreseeable future.
Avatar n tn It is important to realize that of the various HIV types, each type differs from other types by only a very, very small amount and the majority of the proteins and nucleic acids which make it HIV and are the targets of HIV tests are shared by all HIV types. Your testing has included tests which test for a variety of different targets for testing- all are negative, not equivocal and not positive- negative. There is no amount of testing that is going to give you a different answer.

Avatar n tn I'd like to get an HIV blood test at a free clinic in my area that provides anonymous testing. My question is simple, when should I go get tested? I've read conflicting information on this site and others. Some posts indicate you need to wait 5-6 months before the antibodies build up to a detectable level. Others have said you can get a 100% accurate test after 4 weeks. The incident I'm particularly concerned about happened mid-October.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the HIV forum. Unless your partner is in one of the known high risk groups for HIV/AIDS -- gay (or bisexual), injection drug user, immigrant from an AIDS endemic country -- the chance he has HIV is zero or close to it. If he is African American or has been imprisoned, that also would slightly elevate the risk. In the absence of any of those risks, you don't need HIV testing at all.
