Common Questions and Answers about Hiv positive child

hiv

Avatar f tn I would like to know the risks of taking in a HIV positive child into your home. This child is 14 and has been HIV positive since birth. Her mother recently passed away from aids and a family member of mine is considering taking her in. I have concerns about this child being around my children and my nieces and nephews. Are my concerns unfounded??
Avatar n tn Tq Teak and last 2 questions, I thought if she got hiv from her biological parents, the test we did (Elisa)on 7 days should have been positive as her mother passed her some hiv antibody and secondly can a hiv positive child survive healthyly for over 9 years without any hiv treatment. Thank you Teak.
Avatar n tn I have recently read that a mother had passed it to her child this way and am now freaking out. Am I 100% HIV free? Could I still pass it to him while showing negative at nine months? I can't keep thinking that I have endangered my child by my mistake. I just want to know that I can move on from this and know that my son and I are free from this disease. I am just confused because some sites say 3 months, some 6 months ater a confiremed partner. And my clinic said 1 year.
Avatar n tn I was tested for EVERYTHING on my visit, including HSV1/2 and HIV/AIDS. I came back negative for EVERYTHING except HSV2? I spent nearly 1/2 hour with my doctor asking how? I have NEVER had any type of outbreak (lesion/genitalwart) or common symtoms of this STD? She mentioned my results were so low , that it could be a false positive? I am so anxious and concerned with future planning for a baby; is it a good idea for me to send away for the Western Blot Test?
Avatar m tn Not without the wife being positive.
Avatar n tn i bough a rapid hiv tests (icare hiv by jal inno.) and it turned positive after 45 minutes. Previously I had 20 and neved happened that. In panic, I went to a lab and the 4th gen was negative (architect Abbott). Today I have had a insti rapid test and negative again. Do you think that I am seroconverting? bad luck? Please excuse my questions buit I need your opinión.
Avatar n tn Hi i am 22 years old and have been living with HIV for over 2years now i am engaged and i would love to have a child by 2009. I have a child already she is five years old not postive. Can i have a child with the help of medication and my child will not get infected?
Avatar m tn honestly your child being infected from hiv is not quite as easy as you think.the placenta protects the baby .certain things would have to take place like malnutrition ,or uti's.the child would have to come in contact with your blood during childbirth for a long period of time to increase any risk of becoming infected. 25% of babies who are born to parents with hiv become infected and you sound as though you were in good health when your child was born.
Avatar f tn I recently started dating a female. We basically did everything but have intercourse. Before having intercourse we both decided to get full std screening. Hers came back hiv "positive"!!! They performed some testing and her viral load was sky high in the millions the Dr. Said. I now believe I need to test because I may have become infected. We made out heavily and one occasion we did so after getting her tongue pierced. My fear is that I remember tasting blood during the kissing.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear about your fiance, and oral swab is as good as any other aproveed test, the main issue is the time of the test, you need to have 3 month after exposure test to have a conclusive negative result, regarding the child question, an Hiv postive father can have negative children, there is a technic called sperm washing, im not familiar with, but you should contact and Hiv specialist to get accurate information about this.
Avatar f tn Looking at the RNA PCr test name I see HIV 1 only and not HIV 2, so my concern is we don’t know if we even tested the right strain with the PCR.
Avatar f tn Can hiv transmit to 4 year child by eating cold food has fresh hiv blood by eating apple that has been cut by same knive that used by person after cutting his finger if he hiv positive ?
Avatar f tn Is there a risk of HIV exposure from a 16 month-old child accidentally drinking from an unknown child's sippy cup that may have contained breast milk? I know that most HIV-positive women in the US do NOT give their breast milk to their babies/children; however some still choose to do so or do so because they are unaware of their status. The sippy cup looked similar to the one my child uses and my child grabbed it and took a sip before I realized what had happened.
Avatar m tn Now he discussed with the doctor about this doubt he had . Doctor said most probably it would be HIV-ve for the lady and the child. But one of the doctors made him very much confused stating that his wife and the child might get positive by one year completion. My friend is very much afraid becuse of the doctor's stment.
