Avatar m tn Did they find any cure or vaccine to prevent hiv?
Avatar m tn Here is one optimistic news about the ongoing research to find a cure for hbv. "Tavis, who is professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at Saint Louis University, says his team has built a warhead that will kill the virus; now, it's time to design a cruise missile that will deliver the drug." http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2015-12/slu-ngs121415.
Avatar m tn This subject has a great deal of controversy surrounding it, but I have included a link to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations which works with HIV/AIDS research around the world. I hope you find your answers or at least some hope............ http://www.hivplusmag.
Avatar m tn any news on a cure of Herpes? I know people would rather get a cure of HIV but herpes can be just as bad and I am sure it has lead to some peoples suicide. anyone know of the latest news?
Avatar f tn Greetings doctor I am actually doing a research paper on HIV for school and with so much info online from one end of the spectrum to the other I figure I would ask a specialist directly a few questions so here it goes... 1-with testing now a days would you consider 6-8 weeks conclusive? 2-do you believe rapid tests are just as reliable as lab based? 3-do you feel oral rapid tests are just as good as blood? 4-what are the most common symptoms you see with onset of HIV?
Avatar m tn INTRODUCTION Mucosal sites represent the primary routes of HIV transmission, yet the oral mucosa appears uniquely resistant to HIV-1 infection. Since the oral cavity is not conducive to either infection or transmission of HIV, characterizing the responsible resistance factors, particularly components of innate immunity, and their mechanisms of action may identify new opportunities for interference with viral acquisition at other mucosal sites.
Avatar m tn For hep b, will we lean toward a functional cure also ? Since most of the funding and research for hbv originated from hiv research, will we lose research and capital if hbv is not heading in the same direction. from my understanding isnt undetectable level of hep b virus in the blood a functional cure? can someone with experience please explain the difference if hbv can even achieve a "functional cure" (stopping hcc from the virus) if possible?
Avatar f tn if the eyes are a mucus membrane that hiv can penetrate and get into the body.. well, why would hiv not be able to be transmitted out. I don't understand this at all. If vaginal fluid that comes from the vagina (mucas membrane) can infect then wouldn't the same be said for the eyes. I am starting to think this is a rsik but "they" don't want people to worry about hiv positive people living among us. I hope this is not the case. Some information would be very helpful.
Avatar n tn depends on test! the focus alissa test has a problem w false positives under 3.5 some people even were telling me 3.0. if they had a pcr culture done its almost a def. yes! there sitll needs to be conformation testing otherwise. in the u.s they say they are working on a cure but a country outside of the u.s.
Avatar f tn her findings, which raise the possibility that an inexpensive, readily available drug might effectively treat Type 1 or juvenile diabetes, challenge widespread assumptions. Many diabetes researchers insist that a cure lies instead in research on stem cells and islet cell transplants. Dr. Faustman's story, scientists say, illustrates the difficulties that creative scientists can have when their work questions conventional wisdom and runs into entrenched interests.
148987 tn?1287805926 I read this too, and it is more good news as the treatments for HIV and HCV overlap somewhat. A cure is coming.
Avatar m tn They've been working on a cure since HIV was discovered and to date there is still not a cure.
Avatar f tn no, i don't think it makes sense. taking a pill everyday exposing my body to chemicals and irritating my stomach even further, as i cannot take any medication without stomach upset, makes no sense to me. i also don't believe in supporting these drug companies so that they never want to come up with a cure. there's no money in finding a cure.
467579 tn?1289402969 I am finding that most Dr.'s on this subject to just not be there. Maybe because emphysema is such a politically incorrect disease to have, even if it has nothing to do with smoking or who knows.
Avatar m tn Do you think hbv science may use some knowledge/drugs from hiv studies ? As we know hcv cure, Solvadi is a drug which failed for hiv first. Amount of money invested in hiv market is huge if you compare it to the money spend on other diseases.
Avatar f tn Some people may retain the ability to walk without assistance, but others eventually require wheelchairs, canes, or other assistive devices The NINDS conducts a broad range of research on neuromuscular disorders such as PLS. This research is aimed at developing techniques to diagnose, treat, prevent, and ultimately cure these devastating diseases. Hope this helps you Refer http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/primary_lateral_sclerosis/primary_lateral_sclerosis.
Avatar n tn t get the conservative politicians, like Bush, to approve more stem cell research, which is one of the studied methods for creating a cure that seems very promising. There is also some methods involving the immune system in type 1's that has some potential, it has been done in lab mice and next will be possible human tests.
Avatar m tn Bad day for Arrowhead Research. Its stock lost some 50% in value. Bad days for chronic HEP B sufferers hoping for good news. http://www.thestreet.com/story/12906965/1/arrowhead-sinks-on-disappointing-hepatitis-b-drug-data.html?
