Avatar n tn The Thailand Ministry of Public Health conducted the study, which used strains of HIV common in Thailand. Whether such a vaccine would work against other strains in the U.S., Africa or elsewhere in the world is unknown, scientists stressed. Even a marginally helpful vaccine could have a big impact. Every day, 7,500 people worldwide are newly infected with HIV; 2 million died of AIDS in 2007, UNAIDS estimates.
Avatar n tn However, my understanding that any increased propensity to heterosexual transmission is in the lower range of the possibilities you quote from some websites. From my understanding of the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS in Thailand, it is not plausible that the vaginal sex transmission risk is anything like the higher rates you cite. That said, there are no data. The transmission risk data in the US, published by CDC (e.g.
Avatar f tn Saeed, relax. HIV does not transfer through receptive oral sex.
Avatar m tn Immediately I was worried about the hight risk of HIV infection - especially in Thailand where approximately 1% of the population are estimated to have HIV. The last three months have been extremally stressful however the fantastic advice and optomism about my odds of HIV infection provided from the Doctors kept me going. Last week I had a HIV Antibody test done at the 3 Month mark (Just over 12 weeks).
Avatar m tn //www.thailandguru.com/hiv-aids-thailand.html, but also in other places on the internet such as free online med journals. The other worrisome statistic is to do with CSW's. Even though Dr. HHH, who is usually a fountain of knowledge says that CSW's have a lower chance of HIV, this is not the case. Whilst it may be true in Western countries, where Subtype-B is prevalent, this is not true in South East Asia.
Avatar m tn Use a condom consistently and correctly and you won't have to worry about contracting HIV. Won't matter if the person you had sex with has HIV/AIDS or not.
Avatar m tn At least in Beijing, there is a leading infectious hospital (Beijing Ditan Hospital) that specializes HIV/Aids which initated the cocktail treatment in China. Its founder was in the same team with David Ho in Aaron Diamond lab in NYU. It does all kinds of hiv tesing, including the 4th generation Duo test, among others. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn the doctor now is looking to see how bad i have it (CD4). i will also go back to thailand where i assume i got HIV and will set up an appointment with a good hospital there to review. my question - how do i begin living with this disease? what forums are there? i want to chat with real people and not statistics provided by Doctors. i know there is still a stigma on HIV. tks.

Avatar m tn what matters is whether its approved in malaysia, if it was done in a govt approved clinic or hospital then thats it you need to put everything to rest, since u took the test 3 month post exposure, you dont have hiv.. There is nothing spectacular in singapore or thailand.
1123376 tn?1261557699 Hello again everybody, I had a risky exposure 3 weeks ago whereby I had protected sex twice with a SW from thailand who told me she is HIV+.. Oral however was NOT protected... 3 weeks later my body felt weird and this are some of the symptoms im experiencing now. Symptoms I have ? 1) Skin itchiness at various parts of my body. (Legs, hands, chest) 2) Pain under my armpit, redness on the skin.
Avatar m tn s status, i jus assume i had been with even hiv positive partners but protected, as i constantly visit thai massage parlours, clubs, brothels and strret pick ups (Hiv/aids in thailand are serious prob). Any risk of contracting HIV? and if I am to have protected sex hundreds of times more with condom working fine, will I have risk? Am i encouraged to get tested? I usually use durex water to lube my partner's V to prevent condom tear.
Avatar n tn In India I did DUO TEST fourth generation CMIA all negative, RApid Test is also came negative. Western Blot for HIV 1 is negative and HIV 2 is indeterminate. Now I am very much worried and not able to even do good in my career.

Avatar m tn Stopping after the first 2 lines of your question. First, in the 3 decade known history of HIV/AIDS, not one person is known to have acquired HIV by perfomring cunnilingus. Second, the chance is low your partner had HIV. Third and most important, your negative test at 13 weeks is proof positive you weren't infected. Now I have read the rest of your comments. They make no difference. You don't describe any symptoms that suggest HIV anyway. You're fine.
Avatar f tn Yes,they are all wrong. In 30+ years of Hiv/Aids no one has ever contracted Hiv from being fingered, ever.
Avatar m tn Then there is the Thai army study, a fisherman study, a Study of three Cases in CHina where an Antibody test failed to detect CRF01-AE in 3 AIDS patients due to there being no antibodies left. Then the last thing I read was about a recent HIV Vaccine trail in Thailand that was somewhat successful. So in all that reading, plus boards I am not totally confused and none of my questions above were answered. What is the bottom line?

Avatar m tn Your partner was probably not infected. Most commercial sex workers are do not have HIV or even other STDs. Thailand in particular has been very successful in reducing their HIV rates in commercial sex workers. 2. Even though your condom broke, as you point out your exposure was quite brief. There are not good data on precisely how the duration of exposure effects the risk of getting HIV but common sense suggests that the shorter the exposure the less likely transmission is to occur. 3.
Avatar m tn i need to be 100% sure teak i just got married and plan on starting a family with my new wife i do not want to infect her i have been having many symptoms that did not start until my exposure what test is the most accurate at detecting a/e strain?
Avatar m tn As i previously mentioned regarding my trip to thailand i had many sexual encounters with girls and ladyboys and they were all protected vaginal and anal intercourse however with few incidents of blood on condom. From vaginal and from anal. Oral sex was mostly unprotected. Kissing at times with biting and tasting blood. This was my exposure. Many of you said this is not an exposure. but for me sex with any sex worker is an exposure protected or not protected.
