Avatar n tn Even mild thyroid dysfunction is early pregnancy is increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight, and other serious complications. Please see your doctor as soon as possible for a thyroid hormone replacement prescription.
Avatar m tn I was on 100mcg pre-pregnancy and then bumped to 112mcg when i found out i was pregnant and stayed at that level the entire pregnancy.. I have heard and in my case the thyroid is somewhat stable during pregnancy, you supply the babies thyroid hormone the first 8 - 10 weeks. The thyroid gland of the fetus begins to function by the end of the third month of gestation but prior to that time, the fetus is largely dependent on maternal thyroid hormones.
Avatar f tn [20] Finally, the presence of thyroid Abs in euthyroid women could be associated with a subtle deficiency in thyroid hormone concentrations or a lesser ability of the thyroid to adapt adequately to the changes associated with the pregnancy. Indeed, mean serum TSH values (although within the normal range) have been found to be significantly higher in thyroid autoAb-positive women compared with controls.
Avatar f tn now it was fluctuating from high to low. now im told its high but he didnt put me on meds.....but said check in 4 to 6 weeks but id be three months and a week then.
Avatar f tn I am currently 5 weeks pregnancy and my dose was bumped up to 100mg, but I was warned about having a high risk pregnancy and high chance of miscarriage and a defect baby If I went full term. Since then I haven't had any symptoms. Has this happened to anyone else? How was your outcome? I am so scared. My level was first 7 then a week later 31.
Avatar n tn The TSH of 5.4 is high for pregnancy. The average dose increase needed during pregnancy is 25-40% - would consider talking to your doctor about an increase. With the information you give, we would usually increase to 100mcg at least 6x/week with a follow up lab in 5 weeks -- that would be a 20% increase -- would even consider an increase to 7 days/ week as it is better to be slightly over-treated than slightly under-treated during pregnancy. Guidelines suggest TSH should be no higher than 2.
Avatar f tn I am feeling absolutely fine and have never been diagnosed with thyroid problems in the past. In fact, I am pretty overweight just due to not dieting or exercising like I should have been. They prescribed me the lowest dosage of Synthroid available. I cannot for the life of me understand why they would give this to me having a slightly overactive thyroid because I am under the impression that it is for people with underactive thyroids.

1467678 tn?1370941532 Hi All, when you went for your first trimester blood screen, were you told that you had high thyroid levels and that you need to be medicated for this? im currently 20 weeks and at my midwife appointment last week she picked this up and wanted to know if my doctor is aware and if he is medicating me due to it. I have done some dr Google that says that you dont put on weight, and bubs can be a premmy if not controlled.
Avatar f tn is anyone else dealing with a high risk pregnancy? one where you thought your due day was a month further from when the doctors determine baby will come? my due date is dec. 6, but my high risk doctor says he will most likely come the week of november 3rd. that is a huge difference and I am scared, but kind of at peace because I know he will be in good hands once he comes out. I am 33w5d so if he is correct that gives me roughly two weeks.
Avatar m tn You should post a thread with your TSH and Free T4 in the Thyroid Disorders Community. Do you have symptoms of a thyroid condition? You can access the Thyroid Disorders community via the following link: http://www.medhelp.

The fetal thyroid gland gains the ability to produce thyroid hormones by around the eighth to tenth week of gestation.
Avatar f tn MY TSH level in 2nd month of pregnancy was 6.11. Normal level is below 3. Doc recommended 25mcg of thyroxine soidum tablets. I am not convinced if it is appropriate amount. Doc. says that after 4 weeks he will again check TSH level and will see if the dose of medicine is to be increased or not. I am worried lest my baby develops some problems.
Avatar f tn usually they worry that the thyroid is too high in pregnancy, over 2.
Avatar n tn This may increase the risk of miscarriage and other pregnancy problems, including developmental delay in the child. Immediate intitiation of thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) is necessary at a full replacement dose (usually 2mcg/pound, sometimes more for pregnancy) and recheck levels to confirm it is not a lab error. Would discuss with your OBGYN and consider endocrine consult as well. Sometimes we send women to "high-risk" OB for more thorough evaluation in these cases.
1663743 tn?1302916403 I agree low levels of tsh is hyperthyroid ( where your thyroid works too well so tsh is lowered) while high levels are hypothyroid, (where thyroid has to work harder so tsh is elevated) , I would mention your concerns again to your doctor I think both thyroidisims can cause early miscarriage, low birth weight and still birth etc, my tsh is 2.
Avatar n tn t horribly high in the grand scheme of things, having a TSH level above 6 is linked with miscarriage in the second trimester. I have an appt with the OB next Tuesday. At that time I will be about 9 weeks along. Until I go, I'm going to continue taking my 175 mcg (I upped it myself). I don't pretend to be a doctor, but if 150 mcg gives me a TSH of 8.42, it obviously needs to be increased. So I will have to do it myself until I get to the doctor.
Avatar f tn My OB just informed me that my TSH level is 26 and is too high. This seems abnormally high, however, I am not exhibiting any signs of hypothyrodism. I am 37 years old, 5'5" and weigh 120lbs. I do not have any problems with energy level or depression. I feel fine every day. I do eat more carbohydrates than I probably should so I could reduce that. My question is how serious is this?
