Avatar f tn Is anyone doing slimming world and is vegetarian and doing sp plan? Or is a vegetarian and trying to lose weigh? I just don't know what I can eat for protein?
1201598 tn?1265473722 You are going to have to work a little harder to get that protein in but it can be done. Do your homework and study up on a vegetarian lifestyle. Some ways you can get protein is soy, nuts and beans. My teenage daughter wanted to be a vegetarian for a few years so I had to learn how to cook vegetarian. She's not doing it so much anymore but I still use soy, like the soy crumbles in soups or the firm tofu in veggie stir fries. She also likes the Boca burgers, which is a soy burger.
4624236 tn?1357891407 What are some healthy and good meals that will fill you up and feed your baby good proteins as well? I'm having trouble.
Avatar f tn Do an Internet search for high protein vegetarian meals. I couldn't eat meat for awhile and found some really yummy options, like cheese lasagna or a bean and cheese quesadilla. Quinoa is also a really high protein grain.
Avatar f tn They have meals put there for vegetarians that are high in protein. Many people and doctors do not know about these things because they don't do research or think being vegetarian is bad. When I told my doctor about them he was shocked. Walmart and Kroger both have sections for people like us. Morning star is a great brand. They have burgers, breakfast items, porkless bbq, chicken patties, etc.. all are made out of 100% veggie protein and many have more protein in them than meat.
Avatar f tn Protein is the main ingredient that needs attention as a vegetarian. You have to make sure you are properly taking in protein combos at all meals. Plant protein is good for the body and will not harm the Liver; in fact people with liver disease are encouraged to eat more vegan vegetarian meals. You get protein from plant sources, such as soy milk, rice milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream.
Avatar f tn Protein is an essential part of your diet and if you are skipping meat then you should try something like tofu or similar non vegetarian protein food to aid in your weight loss. Not only protein can curb your hunger but also can help you build muscles ( if you are working out) to burn more calories.
Avatar f tn The recommended diet is consuming complex carbohydrates with protein to help lower the insulin resistance. As a vegetarian you eat complex carbohydrates (whole grain, vegetables) so you do not have much to change in your diet. You stated that you are concerned about milk and egg, suggest using organic sources for those products. Soy products are fine because you are only consuming it twice a week.
Avatar f tn Thanks girls! Didn't know how this would work out this pregnancy being vegetarian because with my daughter I wasn't but I didn't eat a lot of meat because every thing made me sick this time I'm not sick but was worried about being vegetarian. I can't go back to meat because the smell and texture is awful to me lol.
6231275 tn?1379901818 however, you need to be vigilant in eating the combination foods and eating enough food daily so your body gets the protein, and nutrients it needs. As a vegetarian you should be getting all your vitamins and minerals from the foods you ate except Vitamin B12 and maybe Calcium (if you have a history of bone disease in your family). Vitamin B12 supplementation you need to take because it comes from meat sources and it not available through vegetarian diet.
535822 tn?1443976780 If you have pre diabetic readings 112 what would a days meals be, could you tell me what you would eat for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and best times to eat, what time is the last meal .I have got a book about this also and am reading but wanted your input.
Avatar f tn As far as vegetarian diets go, do you eat eggs or cheese or completely sustain from all animal products? Both, although great sources of protein, can be very high in fat. So maybe use only egg whites in baking and limit your cheese to low fat varieties. You may want to also think about what kind of oils you use and op for canola oil or olive oil. Also coconut milk/meat, nuts, and avocado are all pretty high in fats.
Avatar f tn I am healthy in every other way (except I am taking meds for depression, which I am currently trying to decrease the dose). I eat healthy, most days 3 meals a day; on the weekends maybe only 2 meals a day. I have recently begun drinking protein shakes with a combination of rice/hemp/whey protein. I am lactose-intolerant, so can only drink rice or almond milk, and not a vegetarian. I also work in the herb dept. at an Ayurvedic alternative health clinic.
Avatar n tn It is important you eat 3 meals a day with snacks between meals. This is a healthy way of eating for you to slowly gain weight and to be continuing to be healthy at the same time. Suggest drinking either nutrient dense drinks (in addition to eating your meals) such as ensure or make your own milkshakes - soy yogurt, soy milk, and frozen fruit blended together; or milk, ice cream, and frozen fruit blended together for extra calories, protein and nutrients to help increase your weight.
Avatar f tn Suggest you read up on vegetarian and combinations of starches / vegetables and beans / nuts (as allowed) for protein, calcium, and other nutrients. Good sources of information are the American Dietetic Association website, www.eatright.org and Vegetarian Resource Group website, www.vrg.org. Hoped that helped you.
Avatar f tn No you don't have to eat meat. But you need to make sure to get your protein and iron still. So yes, talk to someone and get maybe a list of good substitutions!
Avatar n tn There are many good vegetarian protein sources. Nuts, beans, higher protein whole grains and seeds and grain-like foods. I'd go buy a few books on vegetarian cooking. But know that not everyone is equipped to do well as a vegetarian -- most vegetarians do it for ideological reasons and it is harder to get all your nutrients as a vegetarian, particularly methionine and B12, so you do have to learn how to do it well.
Avatar f tn 8. Soy Milk Soy milk is another vegetarian food choice that is high in protein. At about 7 grams of protein per 8 ounces of soy-milk, adding this drink to any diet will help reach the daily amount of protein needed by an individual. 9. Dried Apricots Although at the bottom of the list, dried apricots are also an option that is high in protein. An 8 ounce serving of this dried fruit provides 5 grams of protein.
Avatar f tn There are a million foods made out of soy and other legumes, high in protein. Bananas -- lots of energy, high in electrolytes. Seeds -- hemp seeds most complete vegetable protein, even more complete than soy. Whole grain pasta -- you can get it made out of brown rice, spelt, kamut, amaranth, even with protein added from legumes. There's a world of food out there.
Avatar m tn Would consuming a fast-absorbing protein or slower digesting casein protein be better? Is my lack of sleep somehow related to this? Some eastern medicine literature suggests lack of sleep causes the face (the temples in particular) to hollow.
Avatar n tn You need to consume approximately 1800calories per day to maintain your weight which is broken down to 3 meals a day, with snacks between meals. Since you are underweight, suggest gaining weight slowly, try to eat a Heart Healthy diet which will give you the nutrients, vitamins and minerals your body needs, and help with possibly preventing future disease states.
Avatar m tn You are correct when you stated that you are underweight for your height. Being underweight, you have to gain weight slowly. Avatar n tn You did not state if you were a vegetarian or not. At each meal he should consume a protein source food, vegetable, starch, fruit, and a calcium source (milk or yogurt). He should eat 3 meals a day with snacks between meals. Sorry, I really did not have too much information. Hope this helped you.
9990306 tn?1407113138 s hard to find a protein shake or anything like that. So, do you guys know any vegan protein sources? It would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Suggest eating about 1800 calories per day and eat more towards vegetarian (you do not have to eat tofu), such as big salads with fruit and nuts/seeds or with low fat cheese, etc. The yogurt smoothie, with fruit is good if the yogurt is low fat.
205558 tn?1264715699 This is going to be dependent on the person, particularly how much protein you eat, tyrosine being an element of protein. But tyrosine is interesting -- it's energizing force comes from its use in manufacturing norepinephrine, but it also helps in manufacturing serotonin, which of course might be relaxing you as well. Also, I hope you're not taking it with meals. Amino acids are best absorbed when taken apart from a meal.
1051017 tn?1349636853 Google "food containing protein" and the third site down, should have something with "vegs" in the website address, has a list of vegetarian foods containing protein. I don't know if you take supplemental vitamins, but prenatals will help. Your midwife was managed fine, as you said, I'm sure you will too!
