High protein snacks for athletes

Common Questions and Answers about High protein snacks for athletes

protein

Avatar f tn Compared to plain milk, water, or most sports drinks, it has double the carbohydrate and protein content, perfect for replenishing tired muscles. Its high water content replaces fluids lost as sweat, preventing dehydration. Plus it packs a nutritional bonus of calcium, and includes just a little sodium and sugar additives that help recovering athletes retain water and regain energy. Drinking plain water after exercise replaces sweat losses and that's it.
Avatar f tn What are some good ideas for healthy snacks through out the day.
Avatar n tn Protein won't necessarily be your friend. It depends on the protein. The reason athletes love it is because they work out a lot and turn the protein into muscle. They also tend to eat lean meat. Eating fatty meat will cause weight gain, but in the form of fat, but high protein diets in the short run will cause weight loss, though it's not healthy to eat too much protein.
Avatar f tn Our kids and I are going camping this weekend with some family and I am trying to come up with some easy snacks that I can eat discretely that will hold me over for awhile. Our meals are so thrown off when we are up there. Might not have lunch and dinner until like 2-3 and 7-8 when we are there. I don't want them to question it. But I also don't want them to say well you can wait just like everyone else. Any ideas what I could take with me?
Avatar f tn You sound like you have hypoglycemia. You are correct to have several small meals. For snacks protein is best because it is digested slowly. I keep boiled shrimp in the refrigerator and use them for snacks. You must stay away from sugars and anything that easily converts to sugar. Are granola bars high in sugar. Better check that.
17593698 tn?1458185817 What works for me are snacks that are low in carbs and packed with protein and fat (mostly protein). Nuts are a good choice, just look for lower sodium options. Jerky and other dried meats are good as well. Also consider fresh fruit but beware tropical fruits (Mango, pineapple, papaya, etc.) these are particularly heavy on sugar relative to size. A small to medium sized banana or apple are always a good snack and don't spike your blood sugar.
Avatar n tn IF your BP is that high u should get checked out. Reducing your salt-intake is a significant factor in lowering your BP. For example, don't eat those salty chips and all those extra salty snacks..just avoid adding salt that's not needed. If u are overweight, start exercising. Get checked out by a doctor. Of tell your parents. As long as your pulse rate goes.. Are u an athlete? Your pulse is below average but it's very common in athletes.
Avatar f tn I went back to the doctor a few days ago, and everything else turned out normal except now I had high Calcium and High Total Blood Protein. My Total Protein was 10.6. I am worried about the possibility of Cancer or something serious. Do you think it would be Cancer if just a few weeks ago my Calcium and Blood Protein was normal and now it is not. Could medications like Omnicef cause this increase? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn Try feeding him food of high nutritional value so he gets as much protein and calories as he needs. For example, having a protein source each meal --- meat / fish or cheese or yogurt; with a carbohydrate --- bread, pasta, rice, cereal; and a fat ---- pat of butter or mayonnaise if you made a sandwich. Good protein sources are meats, chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc.; and dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheeses, pudding, and ice cream. It is good he eats pork and chicken.
Avatar n tn So I figured it out eventually that I needed to avoid high refined carb snacks. But I still seem to get hypoglycemic episodes sometimes and I can't always figure out why. Today I had a high protein, low carb meal - paleo bread (9g protein, 6g carbs(1 sugar)) and hemp seed butter (9g protein, 4g carbs(1sugar)). Within an hour, hypoglycemic symptoms began. Is it because I didn't have enough sugar?
579258 tn?1250649343 I also love hard boiled eggs for snack, as well as protein bars from Herbalife. High protein, low calories and carries me quite a long ways. So many exciting choices you have listed above. I do believe I shall have to branch out!
Avatar n tn My mom is just plain diabetic (not pregnant). But she says it helps to eat a serving of protein when you eat a serving of carbs because it helps stabilize your blood sugar and keeps it from going up and down. I think it's something about the way your body metabolizes stuff. Also, there are mixed studies out on this right now, but I don't think it would hurt to try- adding cinnamon to stuff like oatmeal, applesauce, etc.
Avatar m tn Soy is great for some, not so great for others. Rice protein is good for some, not so good for others. Nobody here can tell you which one your digestive system will tolerate the best. As for there only being one whey product that's any good, that's bogus. What's most important is what kind of whey. If you want to make your own shake, you can even buy goat milk whey. A lot of options. What you need to do is research the forms of protein.
Avatar n tn For snacks I usually go with like salad and things of that nature.
Avatar f tn There are a million foods made out of soy and other legumes, high in protein. Bananas -- lots of energy, high in electrolytes. Seeds -- hemp seeds most complete vegetable protein, even more complete than soy. Whole grain pasta -- you can get it made out of brown rice, spelt, kamut, amaranth, even with protein added from legumes. There's a world of food out there.
Avatar f tn t have to go all austerity about it and can establish a new permanent diet that works for you and that makes you happy. Right now high protein diets are a raging fad, but long-term research on real people doesn't show high protein diets being all that great for long-term weight control. Do some homework, set realistic goals, but it's still the same time-worn story, eat less but eat healthfully and burn off more.

4900949 tn?1361380560 We need protein rich diet. And there even was a research that whey protein is good for hbv, but sorry i do not remember on what way.
20790871 tn?1507161421 It is difficult for me to pinpoint what could be causing this because a lot of things in my life changed when this issue started occurring. My diet changed, I lost a bit of weight(down to 6.4% body fat), my training intensified, and I started two medications for depression (Lexapro and Wellbutrin). I gained the weight back after I quit competitive running, but the hair thinning persists.
Avatar f tn My snacks are a piece of fruit then later a couple slices of salami with a slice of hard cheese for protein (add a sundries tomato for extra yum!) Popcorn is also a favorite for me.

Avatar f tn i am losing the battle against calorie intake. I know you're not supposed to go over 2,200 calories per day..... but how? Every once in a while I go over and I'll feel super guilty. I do protein shakes, protein bars, healthy snacks and no meals and extra water. I don't regularly give in to cravings either. It is hard when all I can think about is my next snack. What do you do to stay under 2,200? Any recommendations to ease the pain of the calorie count?
7720624 tn?1402712283 Since about 24weeks ive not felt 100% and the doc i had did not test me for GD even though im high risk and both my father and grandfather are diabetic. She just kept saying next time but woukd see me every 2 weeks and just push me out and listen to heart beat with doopler. I got rid of her and got a new doc at 28weeks and did my 1hr GD test at now 31 weeks and failed. Im so mad that the first doctor just brushed me off like that and put me even more at risk.
