Common Questions and Answers about High protein intake

protein

Avatar f tn Fresh fruit smoothies with added protein powder provide a high-energy and high-protein breakfast option. The sugar supplied by the real fruit is a natural carbohydrate. Blend the smoothie with fruit juice, sherbet or frozen yogurt for flavor. Try a whole wheat pita or tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs and cheese for a quick and healthy option. A bowl of oatmeal topped with blueberries or a side of dried cranberries offers protein and carbohydrates.
Avatar m tn t need as much protein as many believe. All animal products have high protein, but also high fat, so you want to consider fat/protein ratio for health purposes. That makes fish a good source, since the fat in cold water wild fish is beneficial fat, while the fat in beef isn't. Lean meats such as venison or buffalo are much healthier than getting your protein from artificially fattened cows or chickens, so try to stick to naturally raised animals.

Avatar f tn I was strongly encouraged to use whatever means I could to increase my protein intake. I stuck with the protein drinks for a while, then when I felt better added more solid forms. Even now, post tx, I have to work at it - especially since a big hunk of meat on the plate now gags me. Lean red meat on occasion is OK, but best to stick to your fish, chicken and legumes for your mainstay of protein.
Avatar f tn I've been reading the posts concerning milk thistle, and other nutritional tidbits...And I've yet to be able to answer a question...How can a person ingest adequate protein while watching iron intake? Don't they go hand in hand? Is one kind of protein better than another? I can't seem to find any references to this...
1655866 tn?1320498966 Try aiming for calorie dense foods that are high in protein and fiber. Something like almonds or peanut butter for example. Also, eat a bigger breakfast, preferably protein. This may help regulate your appetite enough so you can up your calories to 1800 - 2000. It wouldn't hurt to check with a doctor. Sometimes a suppressed appetite is due to an illness of some kind. Or it could be a new medication. When I was on tetracycline, I had no appetite to speak of.

Avatar n tn This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors. Laxatives and a syrup called lactulose can aid bowel movement and decrease the amount of ammonia producing bacteria in the bowel. Regards.
