Avatar f tn If you are type 2, insulin resistance is considered key part of the problem (though insulin resistance can also happening in Type 1). To address insulin resistance you can:- 1. Lose excess weight if you are overweight 2. Adopt a low carb or even a ketogenic diet (be sure to get enough protein and don't overdo the fats) 3. Regular vigorous physical exercise 4. Insulin sensitizing drug such as metformin.
Avatar f tn The recommended diet is consuming complex carbohydrates with protein to help lower the insulin resistance. As a vegetarian you eat complex carbohydrates (whole grain, vegetables) so you do not have much to change in your diet. You stated that you are concerned about milk and egg, suggest using organic sources for those products. Soy products are fine because you are only consuming it twice a week.
Avatar m tn Strongly recommend that the patient adopts a very low carb, moderate protein and high (healthy fats) diet. This will lower her insulin requirements to cover food. Despite difficulty of weight loss, this should be attempted with moderate calorie restriction (this is easier on a low carb diet, as the high fat makes it quite satisfying, and using low carb veges for their filling effect. Weight loss will help reduce insulin resistance.
26471 tn?1211936521 Since aerobic exercise helps produce more mitochondria and a high-protein diet boosts the benefit of exercise, possibly decreasing insulin resistance, are you recommending compensated patients do this and if so, how much protein?" ____________________________ Dr Zobair Younossi said..... "The issue of metabolic syndrome in patients infected with HCV is quite interesting.
Avatar n tn Infection is the most common cause CRP levels fluctuate from day to day, and levels increase with aging, high blood pressure, alcohol use, smoking, low levels of physical activity, chronic fatigue, coffee consumption, having elevated triglycerides, insulin resistance or diabetes, taking estrogen, eating a high protein diet, and suffering sleep disturbances, or depression.
Avatar f tn Type 1 is lack of insulin (and needs injected insulin), Type 2 is plenty of insulin, but there is insulin resistance and the insulin is not effective. For Type 2, oral meds may be appropriate. If it is adult onset type 1, it may develop quickly. Therefore, I suggest your read up on syptoms of both type 1 and type 2 and if you develop symptoms then you must go to your Dr. or even the hospital. Do you have a home meter? You should test fasting and then 2 hours after starting to eat.
Avatar m tn i am trying to understand this diet. many article on insulin resistance but i found studies where insulin resistance get better by losing fat and building muscle because muscle respond better to insulin. another study says high intensity training improve insulin resistance because high intensity like sprint can only work on glucose can not work on ketones. many conflict studies about low carb high fat. seem like new area.
Avatar m tn You need further information / evaluation. IF it is high insulin becuase you have insulin resistance then it can be treated with diet, exercise and a drug such as metformin. If it is high for other reasons, then it would need to be handled medically. I would expect that it would more likely be becuase of insulin resistance. Are you normal weight? Do you have any history of diabetes? How old are you?
Avatar n tn The doctor said most endos like the serum insulin level to be below 13. She says she feels I am insulin resistant. She said I should get the Insulin Restistant Diet book and follow it exactly for one month and see what happens. If I am able to lose weight and the numbers drop then that confirms the IR. She said I was able to lose weight rapidly on the low carb diet because that is the best way for IR people to lose.
1399124 tn?1401020004 Gestural diabetes is caused by pregnancy hormones causing insulin resistance so your body is not processing foods correctly. It makes it so the baby is getting too much and the baby may be bigger. This is my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I am on a very strict diet that my local diabetes education class provided and monitor my sugar 4 times a day. I have just started on a medication at night. For some of us the further along you are the more insulin resistance you have.
Avatar n tn Also, if they find that you have insulin resistance along with PCOS a high protein diet really helps! My endochrinologist recommended one when I was pregnant too. Good luck!!
Avatar f tn Just wondering if this could be a sign of insulin resistance/high blood sugar or if this is different than what people with diabetes experience. Also I apologize if I used any of the terminology incorrectly here. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Separately, I was wondering why I suffered so many headaches and not making the connection. I find that a high protein diet, lots of small snack work well with both the PCOS and the low blood sugar.... Anyway what ever happened with you?
Avatar f tn IR or insulin resistance is a sign of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I am assuming you are referring to either the A1C or fasting blood glucose levels. The first thing of course is a change in life style. This does not mean you have to stop eating everything but to be more judicious in your eating habits. In addition, regular exercise is paramount in reducing those :numbers". Talk this over with your physician and get started on these changes.
Avatar m tn In ob/ob mice IED led to overt diabetes development, and in mice fed high fructose diet increased insulin resistance by about 100%, associated with decreased VAT mass despite no changes in total body mass, thus suggesting VAT insulin resistance. IED was associated with increased VAT (but not hepatic) insulin resistance, as shown by decreased fasting pAKT/AKT ratio (-80%, p=0.03), and VAT iron accumulation with oxidative stress and unfolded protein response activation.
Avatar m tn In studying the insulin resistance of 29 people with Hepatitis C, Australian researchers have confirmed that they have high insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. However, almost all insulin resistance was in muscle, with little or none in the liver, a very surprising finding given that Hepatitis C is a liver disease. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle.
Avatar m tn Further, you may wish to consider a very low carb diet (high healthy fats, moderate protein), as this can help reduce the insulin requirement. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Also be sure to add protein to every meal/snack, because protein also keeps feeling fuller longer. Protein can be in the form of meat, chicken, dairy (I've gone back to full fat dairy), eggs, nuts, etc) I don't have PCOS, but I do have insulin resistance, plus hypothyroidism, and I find that as long as I add butter and/or coconut oil to every meal, I don't eat nearly as much at the meal, I need snacks between meals and I do lose weight.
806995 tn?1265823176 Aerobic exercise helps produce more mitochondria and a high-protein diet boosts the benefit of exercise, which decreases insulin resistance. Being insulin resistant impairs your ability to achieve a sustained response to Chemotherapy drugs peginterferon and ribavirin... Adding Metformin before and during Hep C treatment increases your odds of clearing... IR can be the cause of steatosis & fibrosis in genotype 1 patients. So, yes taking Metformin could slow down fibrosis.
