Avatar f tn I typically run high protein and have perfect uneventful pregnancies otherwise. (Just delivered Thurs). There can be many factors, but for me it was just my diet. In general I am a big meat, bean, all around protein eater and my body stores it longer, or digests it slower. So they will just watch and make sure it isnt something else causing it and if it levels out they'll make sure it isnt causing any other issues.

Avatar f tn Eat lots of veggies, one portion of fruit only, one handful of raw nuts, low fat dairy, high fat fish, lean meat. The increase in protein will keep you from getting hungry and on the long term completely abolish any cravings. Also, no deep frying, no butter, but olive oil and canola instead. No more rice, pasta, potatoes, flour.... My Dad eats that way for 5 yearsby now, is very healthy and lost 30 kgs during the first year. Good luck!

You'll find your balance where you can feel good. Lots of protein bars and dry cereals have high protein and I consume a lot of those!

The cause is unknown, but can be treated with activity restriction, diet changes, and sometimes meds. If untreated, it can eventually progress into eclampsia, and then to HELLP syndrome (whooole different issue).

Protein foods can be high in tryptophan, so they can make you sleepy. That's why you need a balance of carbs and protein -- carbs give us quick energy. So again, what's your diet and do you exercise and do you sleep well? Have your iron and B12 levels been tested? Are you depressed? Lots of reasons to be tired.

Avatar n tn Here's my take, for what it's worth. Calories aren't a very good guide to weight -- they're a factor but how you metabolize your food is more important. Also realize that most of the people in the world who have been studied for having the healthiest lives eat a lot of carbs -- they aren't on high protein diets. We all know that vegetables are the healthiest foods and should make up the largest portion of our diets, but they are all carbs.

They concluded that high protein did not cause kidney disease, and neither did it cause most kidney disease to deteriorate.. I will post the link if I can find it again. Controlling BG levels is essential to preventing kidney complications, and has been shown to reverse disease in many cases.

Avatar f tn I haven't heard that before but thanks for the tip Kolina24. This will be our last baby as I have a 90% chance of developing it again due to the damage to my kidneys and liver now. I get preeclamplsia because I don't grow very good placentas so baby doesn't get enough nutrition and oxygen, placing pressure on my liver, which leads to my kidneys leaking protein, which all gives the side effect of the high bp.
Avatar f tn Do not lower your calories!!! Eat whole, high protein foods. You can worry about losing weight later (chances are you are gradually without trying anyway) working out is always a good idea, but don't push too hard or the stress can effect your milk supply. Remember to drink as much water as possible and eat as much protein as you can, you are building your baby's muscles and baby needs that to grow strong and healthy. Above all, remember supply and demand!

So you need to adopt a diet and activity level that will result in controlled blood sugar. If you cannot control your blood sugar with diet / exercise, you need to be given insulin, which will surely be effective when used properly.
