The ideal amount of protein for a normal diet isn't as high as people think it is, but there are different dietary theories about how much is the right amount; for bodybuilders, more protein helps build muscle.
Avatar f tn Get protein from plants, meat protein causes the liver to release ammonia as a byproduct of digestion. (pretty sure, not positive). Sodium is no good for anyone unless they medically require it. It will raise anyone's blood pressure. Try to go organic if you can because it is the liver that cleans the garbage out. Try not to eat either carbohydrates only or protein only. Combine them so that neither one spikes and freaks the liver out.

Avatar m tn You should stick to a clean diet full of vitamin-rich fruits and veggies, foods that are high in protein like eggs, nuts and cottage cheese, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. As you age, your muscle mass and strength begins to decline at an increasing rate, that means your body may need more protein than it did when you were younger. Your ability to process protein also declines with age, raising your protein requirements.
Avatar n tn Here's my take, for what it's worth. Calories aren't a very good guide to weight -- they're a factor but how you metabolize your food is more important. Also realize that most of the people in the world who have been studied for having the healthiest lives eat a lot of carbs -- they aren't on high protein diets. We all know that vegetables are the healthiest foods and should make up the largest portion of our diets, but they are all carbs.
Avatar n tn Hi, I found a link recently which was discussing research on the impact of high protein diets on subjects with and without kidney disease. They concluded that high protein did not cause kidney disease, and neither did it cause most kidney disease to deteriorate.. I will post the link if I can find it again. Avatar f tn Do not lower your calories!!! Eat whole, high protein foods. You can worry about losing weight later (chances are you are gradually without trying anyway) working out is always a good idea, but don't push too hard or the stress can effect your milk supply. Remember to drink as much water as possible and eat as much protein as you can, you are building your baby's muscles and baby needs that to grow strong and healthy. Above all, remember supply and demand!
Avatar n tn I read in one of the thyroid books that a high protein, less carb diet is a way to go. True? Also I have read in several places that if you know a good massage therapist, that something called "rebalancing" is a lovely thing. I've done that a couple of times and feel like a lovely puddle of mush when that is done. Very relaxing, but I didn't know if there are other benefits.

973741 tn?1342342773 If you are an average adult with no special diet (such as a vegan.) Then you don't need to take vitamins, you can, but they have no affect if your body already has what it needs, which if you have a normal diet it does. The best way to eat in my opinion refers to the 5/20 rule. Look at the daily percents on your food. Eat foods with less than 5% of sodium, and trans fat, but eat foods with more than 20% of dietary fiber.
