I would love to expiriement with a diet made up of 25% fat, 25% protein, and 50% carbs, although, I fear it will make me gain weight, which I am not looking to do. Stay away from sugar, if possible use a sugar substitute and eat exact serving sizes, I've been using measureing cups.

Avatar n tn Here's my take, for what it's worth. Calories aren't a very good guide to weight -- they're a factor but how you metabolize your food is more important. Also realize that most of the people in the world who have been studied for having the healthiest lives eat a lot of carbs -- they aren't on high protein diets. We all know that vegetables are the healthiest foods and should make up the largest portion of our diets, but they are all carbs.

Getting enough sodium is rarely a problem unless you are drinking tons of water then you can have a problem with low sodium. I've been on this diet for quite some time and I am not taking anything to control my blood pressure as most in my family are taking meds to control their blood pressure.

The best approach is therefore to keep fats to a minimum, at least until the pancreatitis has been resolved, after which time you can re-introduce small amounts of fat - keeping a watch on blood levels to see if it flares up again. In the meantime, dogs still need energy from useful nutrition, so fats should be replaced with carbohydrates.

I have decompensated cirrhosis and HE and know many people who are very ill and waiting for a liver transplant. You can worry about losing weight later (chances are you are gradually without trying anyway) working out is always a good idea, but don't push too hard or the stress can effect your milk supply. Remember to drink as much water as possible and eat as much protein as you can, you are building your baby's muscles and baby needs that to grow strong and healthy. Above all, remember supply and demand!

Avatar m tn From the weight you wrote, you are approximately 30lbs underweight for your height.You do need extra nutrients to gain some weight. From the literature, ITP is not a diet related disease or triggered by diet. You can take supplements, however, you would benefit more from the foods you eat. Suggest eating a moderate fat diet to gain weight slowly, protein (amino acids) and eat healthy.

Stay away from margarine and other fake manmade fats. Fats containing high proportion of omega 3 is the healthier option (like salmon, olive oil, nuts, coconut, etc) Eat real whole food more than processed food.

There will be links to food to avoid, food that is helpful....but always check with your doctor and have appropriate blood work done before following any of the research suggestions from any source. You may have comcomitant health issues, an allergy, etc. and your doctor may place certain restrictions based on your over all health.
