161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar n tn The vet suspected that he might have arthritis and Cushings because he was urinating more often in the evenings, had a ravenous appetite and his blood test indicated high potassium level. She said he had yin deficiency, so she prescribed Rehmannia 6, he took that (3 teapills twice a day) and Cushex for 2 months, since then, he is back to normal except that he has to pee right when I'm preparing his dinner (probably from excitement).
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.

Avatar n tn Has anyone tried using n-acetyl glucosamine in conjunction with their normal insulin regamin (UCI study in August showed it might help)? My 10 year old type 1 diabetic son (diagnosed in 2002) has been taking 3 mg of n-acetyl glucosamine each day for 3 months, and we have seen a reduction in the amount of insulin he needs of about 10 % and a "evening out" of his blood sugars.
Avatar f tn As far as I know there are several options of treatments, and depending on the kind of cushings she has, there is even surgery. The treatment with trilostane is the latest, and with the least amount of side effects, once you get the dose right (what sometimes take a few tries), the dog can live a "normal" life, at least mine does, however it can get a little pricey, as you not only have to pay for the medicine but for several blood tests a year to make sure the dose is still correct.
Avatar f tn Now my calcium level has been high the last four or five blood tests. My vitamin D is also very low. I believe he said the level was an 8. I am terrified. The Doctor wants me to have a bone scan now. Has anybody ever had anything like this? The doctor says that the calcium is usually low when vitamin D is low. Does low Vitamin D ever make calcium high? I was told to take a 50,000 I.U.
Avatar f tn I just found out that I have high level of calcium in my blood. What does this mean? What causes it?
1093971 tn?1257833640 If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar. The consensus, however, is CAUTION and only take glucosamine under the supervision of your doctor, especially if you have diabetes. And be sure to talk with your local pharmacist about potential drug interactions with other medications. Some reports have taking glucosamine to relieve arthritis may cause a rise in blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn His Canadian cardiologist said that his homocysteine was the highest ever seen in the lab in Western Canada where his blood was tested and that the condition is genetic. I took myself to a cardiologist immediately and found my level of homocysteine was as high as yours is. I'm still here and my homocysteine is much reduced, but I take large daily doses of folgardrx. I've also had more extensive tests that show I'm hetrozygous for MTHFR C677T.

Avatar n tn my son is taking 200 mg of lamictal in the morning and 200mg of lamictal in the everning (400mg daily) for seizure control. he has been on lamictal for approximately 3 years and has been a very successful drug. Just recently he went to the family doctor for routine blood work and they called the other day to say his lamictal level was 9.5. They say a normal level is 1 to 4. Should we be concerned about this number? What should we do? Our neurologist is in Colorado and is a 3.5 hour drive.
Avatar f tn 5 ounces of most nuts, including almonds, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. And even though almonds are relatively high in fat and calories, studies show that eating almonds can actually help with weight loss (their protein, fiber, and monounsaturated fats provide the feeling of fullness, preventing overeating).
Avatar f tn Has it been determined that your arthritis is related to your hypothyroidism? Does the thyroxine help the joint pain at all, or stop the progression of the arthritis? I was recently prescribed with Celebrex for RA, then found out that I had a TSH level of 71, so got on Levothyroxine.
428155 tn?1203688894 2) I am said that there is no way to assess the current thinness of my blood. I am taking supplements (glucosamine, bilberry) and my health shop tells me that they thin the blood. So maybe my blood is already thin enough and I can avoid warfarine. Is it true that there is no way to assess the blood's thinness?
Avatar f tn I had the same issue and my doctor increased my lantus. It may be necessary to lower your humalog to carbohydrate ratio. My endocrinologist got it spot on.
Avatar m tn Should I discontinue the medecine until I have him seen and his blood checked or is there another medecine that could give him some pain relief without the risk of liver problems. The vet also said I should put him on glucosamine in hopes of preventing the hip dysplasia of getting worse. Should I just start giving him Glucosamine and not give him Carproxen at all?
Avatar f tn Any substance in high concentrations could cause nausea and vomiting in your dad's weakened state. He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue.
Avatar f tn I recently had my labs done and my thyroid level is in the high 700s. I have had constant hives which are extremely painful. I was referred to an allergist which are the ones that ordered the labs and all they gave me was allergy medicine. Should I be on thyroid medication given that my level is so high. I have also been extremely tired and agitated.
721523 tn?1331581802 The nurse just told me that it was high and to go to the hospital to have two more blood tests. Most of the symptoms mimic MS.. You know, fatigue, inability to sleep, belly ache. I have IBS erally bad too, so I just dismissed the belly ache as that. The stiff muscles I thought were MS... I hope they call this morning. I don't want to call them again; you know, if the ladies at the front desk think that you are a pest, they are less likely to help you in the future.
Avatar n tn Myxedema in both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid conditions results from the accumulation of increased amounts of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate in the dermis in both lesional and normal skin. I was doing a lot of research because my TSH tests went from a normal (and stable) 1.5, to a year later 29.9.
