Seeds -- hemp seeds most complete vegetable protein, even more complete than soy. Whole grain pasta -- you can get it made out of brown rice, spelt, kamut, amaranth, even with protein added from legumes. There's a world of food out there.
Avatar n tn There are many good vegetarian protein sources. Nuts, beans, higher protein whole grains and seeds and grain-like foods. I'd go buy a few books on vegetarian cooking. But know that not everyone is equipped to do well as a vegetarian -- most vegetarians do it for ideological reasons and it is harder to get all your nutrients as a vegetarian, particularly methionine and B12, so you do have to learn how to do it well.

Avatar f tn Great advice as always from the above poster. My mother is also diabetic and she gradually became a vegetarian. It has been so very good for her health. Her blood sugar is always great, her A1C levels are great. She also has autoimmune hepatitis and every time she has blood work her numbers keep getting better. Do what the above poster said, do as much research as you can and consult with a nutritionist.You have to know what foods are good for you since you have diabetes.

And being a vegetarian you should be careful in your health because you wont get all needed nutrients from veg foods that you have written that you have been cutting backed on sugar, cheese and eggs for past one month which clears that you have no taken any protein rich food.
Avatar m tn You can take supplements, however, you would benefit more from the foods you eat. Suggest eating a moderate fat diet to gain weight slowly, protein (amino acids) and eat healthy. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.

Avatar f tn Very very very normal in your first trimester and even Into your second. There are ways around it, I found protein shakes worked really good for me. Because the smell or thought of meat made me sick. Plus you can mix in veggies like spinach and other veggies the contain.protein and it doesn't taste like them. Try and eat protein rich foods, like beans! I couldn't stomach eggs until my third trimester. Read up on protein high foods.. it doesn't have to be just meat and dairy.

What you need to reduce is your intake of carbs. If you are used to eating a large amount of rice (for me the problem was pasta) you will have to change that.

I lost 15 pounds in one month, and I didn’t weigh very much to being with. I felt very, very sick and consequently started eating meat again. I still feel that animal abuse is wrong, but you can get meat from local farmers where you know how the animals are treated.

Some ways you can get protein is soy, nuts and beans. My teenage daughter wanted to be a vegetarian for a few years so I had to learn how to cook vegetarian. She's not doing it so much anymore but I still use soy, like the soy crumbles in soups or the firm tofu in veggie stir fries. She also likes the Boca burgers, which is a soy burger.
