Common Questions and Answers about High blood sugar over 400

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn Hi Michael: Any type of illness will cause your blood sugar to go out of control. So the fact that you have a "bad cold" is probably the cause. That being said, a high blood sugar should be a cause for concern especially if the cold is causing you to not be able to eat or drink fluids. If you get dehydrated, it will cause your blood sugar to go up even higher. So make sure that you're having plenty of fluids and do NOT skip meals when your blood sugar is high.
Avatar m tn In January my A1C was 6.8 and my sugar was also borderline. Today 6/31 I checked my sugar using my aunt's meter and it was over 400. This was about 2 hours after dinner. I'm not currently being treated for diabetes. About a month ago I started having severe dry mouth but no other symptoms. I'm currently on vacation and several states away from my doctor. Can I wait a week to see her or should I get treatment right away?
Avatar f tn Can someone tell me how high your blood sugar should get before you become alarmed or call the doctor? I have not been diagnosed but a few months and my doctor has not told me much of nothing. My sugar keeps going up and down, my doctor won't put me on medicine(the highest its been is 400+, the lowest 60) Thanks for your help!!!
1448460 tn?1284694467 I was on prednisone for several months and my blood sugar was rarely below 400 which is why they put me on insulin. If you are overly concerned, speak with your doctor or diabetes consultant. Don't be passive about your health, be proactive and talk to your doctors about your concerns and fears. You are working with them as part of a team, with the goal of getting you back to healthy again. Best of luck and my prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery!
Avatar f tn m wondering if there is any correlation between having a high blood alcohol content and high blood sugar, as high blood sugar turns into alcohol. Anyone know?
Avatar f tn I m Type-1 diabetic from last 15 years and my blood sugar level used to be under control but from last 2 Weeks, my sugar level fluctuates a lot. Fasting blood sugar is nearly around 300 : before dinner around 500 and after dinner its around 400.There is no change in my diet, exercise or my daily routine pattern. Even I take short acting insulin(novorapid) when my sugar level goes beyond 300 but it doesn't make much difference. I m really worried.
1773108 tn?1314158067 Good Morning, I have a question about high blood sugar levels that don't seem to stabilize. My boyfriend has been struggling for years with high blood sugar. He told me this morning that his level was at 480+!!!! He says he doesn't feel any different whether it's high or low. The lowest it's been (to my knowledge) is still in the high range of 200+.
Avatar m tn Have you ever gotten your blood sugar tested? What you describe there could be Low blood sugar, Low hematocrit or hemoglobin which means low oxygen, but I guess a fall in blood pressure can make you dizzy and faint! Less pressure means less glucose and oxygen to brain so the brain will get your head a ground level so that it can get the needed glucose and oxygen which is why people faint...........High blood pressure will most likely cause a headache, but then again anything is possible.
Avatar m tn My TSH was over 200, ran it two more times, came back over 400 and over 900! ( I have never known if it was high for a long time, or if it was recent, as I never had any symptoms. Anyone care to shed some light on if my TSH number could have been this high for a long time? Just FYI.........I had not had my TSH checked for well over 10 years prior to this result.
Avatar m tn s thyroid and blood sugar is totally inadequate. Even at 350-400 her blood sugar is WAY too high.
Avatar n tn Hello, with his blood sugar as high as 400 his body is unable to use what he eats. He doesn't need janumet, he needs insulin. There is no way he should lose more weight and for his doctor to tell him to lose more weight means he is not looking at him. He should be eating a low carb diet (no mountain dew or junk food) and he needs insulin. Sorry to be harsh, but your husband may well die soon (in weeks to months) if he can't get his blood sugars under control.
Avatar f tn Both high and low blood sugars do affect moods. At 400 your husband's blood sugar is way into the danger zone, and if he is sustaining blood sugars that high he is in danger of going into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which is a medical emergency. However...having said that...it is normal for a person to be somewhat irritable, grouchy, short-tempered, etc.
Avatar f tn 90 carbs per meal does seem high. My dietician advises no more than 60 per meal.
Avatar f tn When are you seeing " 400+count of sugar"? If at fasting, levels this high usually warrants the addition of insulin. At other times it is always in the best interest of the patient to consult with their primary care physician regarding adjustments/additions to existing medications. Keep in mind levels this high are dangerous to your well being.
Avatar n tn please inform me if by taken ofther medication your blood level could get high as 400 - 500 my mom has her sugar level out of control she take medication for her arthristis and i think the medication is making her blood level high she does not eat sweet or out of control eating eats very little small potion . med. name are Methotrexate 2.5 Prednisone 5 mg. Avatar n tn I'm am newly diagnosed as of a few days ago. I'm trying to get my blood sugar levels under control, but I haven't been able to get it under 200. Most of the time, even with metformin, my levels are between 300 to 400. This is very new and very scary. Any advice?
Avatar f tn s blood sugar to test high 300-400 range, if there his frustosamine levels are normal or low?? He just got over yet "another" infection that was fought with an antibiotic shot. Vet tried putting him on insulin for a few months, but weekly blood sugar was normal every time BEFORE his shot and his fructosamine levels tested very low (we almost killed him.) Vet insists that infections make blood sugar go down. Clearly my cat is on/off lethargic and has been drinking more water lately.
Avatar f tn Whatb should I do for self help when tryglicerides are over 400? I am on a fructose intolerance diet and have lactose intolerance.; also am pre-diabetic..
Avatar n tn I just found out that I'm pregnant, and my blood sugar is literally all over the place. One hour it will be 140, and the next hour it will be 240. I have another week until my endocrinologist appointment, and I am VERY NERVOUS. PLEASE HELP!? What can I do to keep it down until my Dr appointments? I'm limiting my carbs, and excercising. What else can i do?
Avatar n tn I had mentioned to a friend with a diabetic son that after I exercise(run) in the morning my blood sugar will sometimes shoot up 100-150 points and this is after a reading of 120-150 prior to running on my treadmill. I then have readings that are 200-250 and I get very frustrated! I am a type I diabetic for 26 years. I thought this was strange seeing that I had not eaten anything to make my blood sugar climb so high.
Avatar n tn The Symogi effect is the tendency of the blood sugar to rise as a result of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can trigger release of hormones such as glucagon that raise blood sugar. The liver would normally respond to declining blood sugar by increasing glycogenolysis, as I discussed above. But insulin inhibits glycogenolysis, and as you may have observed, low blood sugar occurs most often near an insulin peak.
Avatar n tn After I gave him something really sweet to drink about 45 minutes later he was ready to eat. So do we have a problem with low sugar or high sugar? Is this something to worry about? He cant't talk so he can't tell us how he feels. My husband won't have insurance until the end of April. So were kinda stuck at the moment with being able to get anyone to help us. We were also told that since his seizures last that long we should really be worrying about brain deteriation.
