478103 tn?1209053846 Also my leg where they took the veins in my leg still swell alot around my ankles and still do not have feeling in the front of my leg, that is still very bothersome, and also my hair is falling out by the handfuls is this normal after heart surgery? It is hard to find anyone my age going that has gone through bypass surgery. I will say on a lighter note, I feel better than I have in years. Any info would much be appreciated.
Avatar m tn my husband has problems breathing after open heart surgery. It started during deep sleep and now can happen any time. He goes into these episodes where he seems to fighting for his life and not able to breathe out. They last about 10 seconds but are very scary. This started 5 days after surgery and now its been 21 days and they are still occuring. Doctors have done all sorts of tests but can't find the problem.
Avatar m tn nt get up so an ambulance took me to the hospital where they said I was having a heart attack the cath showed the surgery failed and they put in 2 stents, in Oct 2011 I had the same symptoms the cath showed the stents were blcked and they put in 2 more stents these were medicated this time.
714309 tn?1235737612 Well, three weeks ago today I had my open heart surgery. They let me out of the hospital after six days. I was ready to go home too :) My surgeon tried his best to repair my mitral valve, but found it was too badly damaged and calcified from my previous surgery when I was two years old. He ended up having to replace it after trying for literally hours to repair it. I was in surgery for over six hours and he actually took me off the bypass machine to test the repair.

Avatar f tn It sounds like you aren't controlling your blood sugars. You need to eat at least 3 well balanced meals and 3 snacks per day. I suggest you call your doctor as soon as they're open and explain what you're experiencing with your heart rate, diet and blood sugars. Your doctor might want you to see a nutritionist and or put you on meds. Its extremely important to control your blood sugars, especially during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Whether pumping capacity can be increased depends on the underlying cause. If the cause is due to ischemia (lack of blood flow to the heart cells), high blood pressure, or other condition that stress and over work the heart, therapy that corrects the condition can cause the heart to return to normal functionality. If the low cardiac output is due to heart muscle damage from a previous heart attack, some medication, drugs, alcohol virus, bacterium, etc.
Avatar m tn My friends father recently suffered a heart attack and was advised to undergo angiography. The test showed 100% blockage in two of his arteries and was recommended open heart surgery. He is 61 years old and has suffered from hypertension and high blood pressure for the past 3 years. He has lived with the fear of doctors and surgeries all his life and is now strongly refusing to undergo the surgery. No amount of convincing from the doctor or the family seems to help.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar m tn 50% blockage in MID LAD ,I have no problem on doing regular activities except walking on steps Can it be cured with medicine or i need any surgery. Peoples starts confusing me with open heart surgery, what can i do now? pl.reply me.
Avatar n tn The doc said it was expected and normal. A week after RAI, I had a blood test and my thyroglobulin was too high(4.5). I thought the reason was that the blood test was done too early. I was surprised that the doc did not test my current thyroglobulin this time. I am meeting with the nurse next week. I will ask her. Maybe the doctor forgot to circle that item to be checked. I also have to ask about a swollen nodule in my neck that my primary doc found a couple days ago. Why swollen?
Avatar f tn I'm wondering what procedure you had? Which coronary artery was unclogged through open heart surgery? Was it a bypass? The only unclogging I know of through open heart surgery is an endarterectomy, but this is very rarely used unless a bypass is being performed because of the very high risks.
Avatar m tn I, myself, stopped eating beef 12 years ago due to a large number of family members needing open heart surgery. Prime rib was my favorite, but with all the people having heart attacks and surgery, I stopped eating beef and my cholesterol dropped tremendously.
1806721 tn?1554333407 109 is really not that high and could be affected by the quality of the fast before your test. You should ask for a hemoglobin A1C test which will tell you exactly what your blood sugars are and have been for a longer periond of time. Hemoglobin cells are combined with glucose so it can measure the long term levels of glucose in your system as the sugars attached to your hemoglobin cells do not fluctuate like blood sugars do.
390388 tn?1279636213 Your arteries are becoming inflamed at that reading and you will start to experience high blood pressure as well as be at risk for blood clots in your heart arteries. You need to strive for a fasting blood sugar reading of no more than 100, and believe me, if you ignore that advice, there are consequences of heart, eye, kidney disease. I'd advise you to contact your health professional and report the bp reading/blood sugar results asap.
Avatar f tn My father currently has an EF of 19% which has remained unchanged since Feb 2010. He had open heart surgery and had two valves replaced along with 2 bypasses. Prior to the surgery he'd had several stents (7) and his EF was 45%. Right after surgery is was 20% and has not improved any. He has a lot of fatique and generally feels bad. His meds daily include: asprin 81 mil, glipizide 2.
Avatar m tn I consider what you describe to be bypass surgery, not open heart surgery, that is your heart was not opened. I could be wrong on that "fine" point, but to your cold limbs question I can say I had open heart surgery to repair my mitral valve and to do a mini-maze procedure on the inside of my heart to try to stop atrial fibrillation. This was done in November of 2007, and I have not noticed any increased sensitivity to cold temperatures or colder hands/feet...
Avatar f tn Thanks for your response! I fasted for 11 hours because my eyes refused to stay open past 9:30 pm. I'm here at the lab and just finished my 3rd blood draw. The first hour after the first blood draw and glucose drink was the WORST! Thankfully I didn't throw up but I almost did. They let me drink some water which helped. I'm praying that my tests come back ok and I don't have gestational diabetes. Good luck to you!
Avatar m tn Research seems to be showing a trend between high processed sugar consumption and heart disease. Soda drinks contain a high level of processed sugar. Heart disease is gradually increasing in younger individuals now, when it was once a disease of the elderly. Jaw, back and shoulder pain are common symptoms, as is a throat discomfort. With regards to options, I am not sure there is any option apart from Bypass.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn Not the same condition but we found out at our 20 week scan that our little girl has TGA(heart ventricles are wrong way round)and he will need open heart surgery a couple days after shes born..very high success rate too so we are very positive about it...its scary news to get knowing something is wrong..i would suggest looking for groups on parents of babies with heart conditions on facebook if your on there...
