Avatar f tn my cholesterol triglycerides is high. its 524 without fasting. i am low on ferritin and vit d. please help. is it cancer ?
Avatar m tn Triglycerides 121; Total Cholesterol 176; HDL 72; LDL 80; and VLDL 24. My doctor raised my Zorcor to 80 mg per day as I was on 40mg. My ALT was 58 which is a concern. I don't know what I am doing wrong? Have a VAP and another lipid test scheduled in 3 months. It was suggested I take (Lovaza) fish oil also but I want to wait for the new Lipid test results. Presently I am on Plavix, Lopressor, Vasotec, 81 mg asprin and the Zocor. Please advise.
Avatar m tn The data are inconclusive and I have never heard of anyone having an increased level of cholesterol due to blood pressure meds. Your LDL is very high and HDL is low, I would considers some lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise as well as a statin to help get these numbers down because high cholesterol and high BP are two modifiable risk factors and both will be benefited by diet and exercise.
Avatar n tn I feel like a walking heart or stroke candidate. I am a 56 year old woman with parents who have had high cholesterol and a 26 year old niece who has also had high numbers. My weight is 153 and I am 5'5. Not too overweight. I walk and exercise a few times a week and eat predominately healthy.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have extremely high cholesterol and fatty liver....
Avatar n tn I received my blood test last week to find out that all of my cholesterol levels were high risk. Specifically, my cholesterol count was 249. I am 33 years old, don't smoke, and weigh 155. I have a history of high cholesterol in my family. I haven't gone to the doctor in fear that he may prescribe Lipitor or other drugs I don't care to take. Are there other remedies? I have a friend in her 20's that takes Policosinal and it seems to work for her. What should I do?
425200 tn?1368741070 Your total is high because your good cholesterol levels are high, which is a good thing. You LDL or bad cholesterol is within normal ranges and I calculate your TGLs at 145 which is also good. Overall, very good numbers. I wouldn't get too excited with a slightly high total cholesterol along with a high HDL, normal LDL and TGL unless you have heart disease in which case you should have an LDL under 100. If you are otherwise in good health, these look good to me.
Avatar m tn It's for cooked eggs, since eating raw eggs can be dangerous. However, raw eggs actually help fight cholesterol because raw egg yolks contain the best quality lecithin of any food, and lecithin helps liquefy cholesterol and keep it moving. Remember, cholesterol by itself isn't dangerous, it's only when it oxidizes that it is. I don't think the latest research backs up such a strict restriction on egg consumption.
Avatar f tn s for blood work a few times over the last couple of years for cholesterol with very high numbers, which medication never made better and results would be Gout. Recently, on the urgency of his mother and myself, we begged him to request blood work for Thyroid after determining all his other symptoms pointed that direction. Results, Triglycerides=2000, Cholesterol=640, THS=300 (yes this correct).
Avatar m tn First off, I have not even suggested meds, I'm not sure where that comes from. The only point I'm making is based on the most recent information released. Based on recent studies it has been determined that our diets only account for 10% of our lipid levels therefore someone who needs to drop their lipids by 30% won't get there with changes in diet alone. This is a simple assumption as their current diet is already influencing their lipids.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your question. Your LDL (bad cholesterol) is pretty high. Your HDL (good cholesterol) is in the normal range. Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin).
Avatar n tn man who has a high cholesterol level. Your weight may be discrepant with your diet and intake of saturated fat. 80% of our cholesterol comes from our food intake.I suspect that within 6 mo you could lower that total cholesterol with a diet consuming less than 35-40 total gms fat per day <15 gm saturated fat/ day. You would kill two birds with one stone.
Avatar m tn Your LDL is borderline high, which makes both your total cholesterol and your ratio of total cholesterol to HDL a little too high, also. Your triglycerides are good. Your HDL is okay. LDL is really the only issue here, and even it's not crazy high. The common advice for borderline high LDL is to eat less saturated fat, make sure you are eating a good amount of soluble fiber in your diet, lose weight if you are overweight, exercise regularly, and don't use tobacco. Good luck.
1810531 tn?1344529717 My nurse practitioner saw me today and she has asked me to follow a diet for the next three but if it stays high they will then think about statins. I know high cholesterol can run in families and my dad did have coronary heart disease but I just dont understand the massive hike in my levels within a year as my diet is basically the same. has anyone got any suggestions. Thank you Wendy.
Avatar f tn QUIT smoking or vaping. This causes a myriad of issues and is linked to high ldl cholesterol. For triglycerides, alcohol is a big culprit. Also true . . . drinking alcohol raises blood pressure. Eat whole grains and avoid sugar. Niacin (*** check with doctor first before taking!!) and B vitamins (okay to take on your own) are also said to help. https://www.webmd.
214065 tn?1251288877 Total Cholesterol: A high cholesterol in the blood is a major risk factor for heart and blood vessel disease. Cholesterol in itself is not all bad, in fact, our bodies need a certain amount of this substance to function properly. However, when the level gets too high, vascular disease can result. A total cholesterol of less than 200, and an LDL Cholesterol of 100 or less is considered optimal by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
367252 tn?1204397591 What was your LDL? (bad cholesterol) Your TG's are borderline (up to 150 is normal) I agree that your HDL is high, but I'd think better high than being to low since HDL is the good cholesterol and to low HDL can also cause heart problems.
Avatar f tn Consequently, the cholesterol molecules (which can’t be dissolved in the blood) will accumulate on the walls of blood vessels. The continuous accumulation of the cholesterol on blood walls will lead to atherosclerosis and plaque formation. As you can see, the higher the level of LDL, the faster will be the process of atherosclerosis. However, some people might have high readings of both LDL and HDL, so the process would not happen quickly. This is the role of HDL/LDL ratio.
Avatar n tn Often if you live with such high levels of pressure, it may suddenly swing to either very high or very low side with serious health damages. High blood pressure could be a symptom of some other health issues, like high cholesterol, blocking or thinning of some arteries, diabetes or kidney problem, so that a thorough evaluation will be required before treating it.
Avatar f tn When you say high, how high, and what part is high? If this is your first high reading, I would personally try to avoid statins, as they have other deleterious effects on the heart and the rest of the body, but that's just my opinion. Lecithin does help indirectly lower cholesterol by helping to emulsify it, helping it to move more smoothly through the blood vessels. The problem with cholesterol is when it oxidizes, which causes it to stick to the blood vessel walls, narrowing them.
Avatar f tn I just got my blood test results back and my cholesterol is high. I'm 31 and very active my cholesterol is 202, HDL 75 and LDL 110. I was hoping for rock start results and even though these don't seem too bad I am wondering if someone might be able to shed some light. I have a love affair with cheese of all/any kind - could this be affecting it?
