infection

Avatar n tn Anyone having a HSV infection has a 50% chance of having a second attach within 5 years and a 3 rd, 4th infection is not unusual. HSV in the eye can take the form of a characteristic ulcer on the surface of the eye (Dendrite), an deep bedsore like ulceration on the cornea, a swelling of the middle layers of the cornea often with a normal surface retina and an inflammation of the inside of the eye (HSV uveitis). You would need to find out from your ophthalmologist which form you have.
Avatar n tn Currently, many doctors rely on the typical clinical presentation of the disease. Underdiagnosis of genital herpes because of misinterpretation of either anatomical or morphological presentations of the disease can accelerate the spread of the epidemic. What all that means is that your doctors THINK they know herpes, but they DON'T, and more than half of cases in the aforementioned study did not appear according to the conventional "wisdom" taught in medical schools.
Avatar f tn They called me a week later and said my pap smear came back with cells associated with the herpes virus. 6 months prior I had a pap with cervical dysplasia Im a wreck I feel alone and I cry everyday. I went to take the blood test on this past monday just to confirm it. i have not had any blisters just tingling on my tailbone and tingling around my lips. I did get sick and have diarrhea and had a decreased appetite days after sex and aquired a yeast infection.
Avatar n tn In addition to oral and genital sores, the virus can also lead to complications such as infection of the lining of the brain and the brain itself (meningoencephalitis) in neonatal infants due to infection during birth. However, some people have HSV-2 but do not show symptoms. Up to 30% of U.S. adults have antibodies against HSV-2. Cross-infection of type 1 and 2 viruses may occur from oral-genital contact. A finger infection, called herpetic whitlow, is another form of herpes.
Avatar n tn There is a vast difference in training and experience between a MD eye physician and a limited scope, non-physician optometrist. As a late complication of herpes simplex the virus can get in the middle of the cornea or it can get inside the eye and cause a uveitis. Make an appointment with an ophthalmologist ASAP. Your family MD will generally be happy to arranage a consult or you can go to www.aao.org and find an Eye MD near you. 50% of h simplex experience reoccurences.
Avatar m tn I am 40 year male and had possible unprotected expose to a prostitute (due to condom slipped at the end) for about a couple minutes on 012/04/2011. Following are the test results: Test Value Range Result Test Date Results Date Chlamydia Negative Negative Negative 01/03/2012 01/07/2012 HIV-1 Antibody <1.00 <1.
Avatar m tn I have not found the cause of the infection. After numerous and I mean numerous testing including 4-5 herpes tests, HIV tests and even viral load testing, syphilis, ghonerra, chlamydia, hep b-c, even diabetes, cosacki and autoimmune diseases. So far I just decided to treat the symptoms through medication, physical therapy and time. Look up cpps, it can be triggered by infection and or the stress that follows.
Avatar f tn so i got retested for it because i never had an outbreak of it what so ever and i got retested just last week and some time today im the post to get the results of it.
Avatar m tn The treatment of herpes simplex eye disease (Usually type 1) has been revolutionized by the antivirals oral acyclovir; Valtrex or famvir. 50% of patients that have a cornea HS virus will have a second attack within 5 years. type 2 HS is usually associated with a genital infection. Treatment of the genital HS by oral Valtrex should prevent a second episode of eye problems.
Avatar n tn I am very vulnerable to Herpes Simplex virus on my lips. From the beginning of the 2008. to today I had more than 25 Herpes Simplex virus outbreaks. I asked the doctor for the advice but he just said to put toothpaste on the cold sores and to drink vitamin b complex. I am drinking Spirulina (Vitamins), Colostrum (Vitamins) and vitamin B complex. I am even putting the Aciclovir paste on the cold sore... But all without success. What am I doing wrong, what should I take?
Avatar f tn Can an opthalmologist diagnose it if there are no blisters or lesions around the eye? Does the virus have to be active for an eye doc to see it, or is there evidence even when the virus is dormant? Any further information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Many, many thanks.
Avatar n tn He gave me tobradex to combat any infection, but it does not relieve me from the pain. The upper left of the eyelids of my left eye hurts deep into my skull. It is hard to handle it on a daily basis. I hope not to be stuck with that pain for the rest of my life. If tobradex does not help, is it because it could be something else than a bactery. What should I do?
55646 tn?1263664409 Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus. The routinely available oral medicines interfere with replication of the virus, but this treatment is designed to allow the immune system to respond more effectively to the virus and subsequently reduce the frequency of recurrences and reduce viral shedding.
Avatar n tn The inflammation of the iris from the herpes virus can cause an eye color change. This is of course just speculation, and is purely theoretical. I will continue to post answers to this question as they come up.
Avatar f tn I should apply lacritube gel to elieve th pain. I have ptosis of the affected eye. Now my right eye is also having the same problem. What doctors say? I have corneal ulcer & it will take 6 months to have a complete healing. I am very pessimistic. Will you please advise.
Avatar n tn This morning the roof of my mouth on the same side was broken out in herpes. It must be related as I have had herpes before and it is always preceded by pain in the nerve pathway near the outbreak. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine, my outer ear, my upper cheekbone and teeth were hurting. My question for you...is the roof of your mouth which is bumpy on the same side as where the headache was? By the way, nothing helped my pain either. It went away today when the blisters appeared.
Avatar n tn I had not considered that the pain I am experiencing is independent of the herpes infection, as it came immediately after it. I will speak to the consultant at the GUM clinic next week to see if they will refer me to a neurologist about this. Do you know if this type of situation is common or rare, that I am experiencing? I hope that I can get some relief soon.
Avatar m tn I suppose my research and guilt had played a major role in my concerns that i had aquired a herpes infection. In the study done by Eiichi Uchio on the Clinical and epidemiological features of acute follicular conjunctivitis with special reference to that caused by herpes simplex virus type 1, found that in some cases (4% according to the study) occular hsv (that does not include lid lesions) can mimic EKC adeonivurs in its acute stage.
Avatar f tn I suspect you will need to have regular eye check ups. Herpes Keratitis is a viral infection of the eye that is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV for short). As you will probably be aware that there are 2 different strains of herpes. The Herpes Simplex Virus 1 causes cold sores and the most common way that people get Herpes Keratitis is through touching a cold sore and then their eye. Do you get cold sores?
Avatar f tn A cold sore is herpes. Sorry to.be the bearer of bad news. There is herpes simplex 1 and herpes simplex 2. Herpes simplex 1 manifests itself as a cold sore. This is why you will never truly recover and will experience cold sores for the rest of.your life. If you kiss your bf.while you have a cold sore you will.give him herpes. And if.you perform oral sex on him you will give him herpes simplex 2. If you then.have sex while he has an.active case.of herpes he will.give you herpes simplex 2.
Avatar f tn ) About over a month ago i exposed myself to ocular herpes by rubbing my eye after touching an infection, about a week after the exposure i began taking 1200 mg a day of acyclovir and have continued to take it ever since just in case i could have gotten it.
Avatar n tn My school doctor called me in after I told her I was scared i had herpes since i had what i believed was an outbreak on my genitals. i got blood tests done and she called me in to tell me that the tests did detect antibodies, but it was a "rough estimate" and we just had to keep an eye out. i was so confused andfrustrated because she didnt help at all. anyway i got the paper work and this is exactly what the tests results say verbatim.
Avatar n tn Second, a culture for herpes zoster (the chickenpox virus) would not grow herpes simplex. Also, the description you give doesn't sound like herpes, or at least it could be other things. You can get herpes 2 in sites other than the genitals, but for all these reasons, I have my doubts that it's the explanation for all these symptoms in your case. I think you need clarification from your doctor, or from a dermatologist or an expert in infectious diseases.
Avatar m tn Best of luck. The treatment of all forms of eye herpes simplex have improved dramatically over the last 5-10 years.
Avatar m tn On my Lab Bill there is a list of all the tests they ran and the Herpes tests simply say "Herpes simplex I, each AB" "Herpes simplex, type 2" and "Herpes simplex II, each AB." My gyno called me personally to tell me the results but all she said was that I was positive. Would I call my gyno to find out the results? And what do those results mean? (hsv1 igg 5.7, etc.) Does Herpes only occur in clusters?
Avatar n tn If it is negative, you and your husband need to take precautions to be 100% certain you don't acquire his HSV-2 infection toward the end of pregnancy. The 100% sure approach is no vaginal sex in the last 2 months of pregnancy. If that isn't practical, then condoms are an option, and so is having your husband take suppressive anti-herpes therapy. The second option, if you don't have the blood test, is follow the recommendations to avoid infection as if your test were negative.
Avatar n tn If someone has to get genital herpes, HSV-1 is the type to get. Your wife's first infection is by far the worst she will experience, and perhaps the only one; 40% of people with new genital HSV-1 infection have no recurrent outbreaks at all, and most of the rest have 1-2 recurrences in the next couple of years, then nothing. Nobody can re-catch the same HSV type a second time, and especially people don't get new infections with the same HSV strain they already are carrying.
Avatar n tn Hi Loki117 Your symptoms do not suggest recurrent Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) type 1 eye infection or complications (keratitis, iritis). So I would concentrate on the genital herpes and trying to prevent reoccurence. There are a number of things that might cause the eye symptoms you describe, none of them are terribly serious.
Avatar n tn One last comment concerning your final, cheery paragraph about the increased risk of more stds via herpes infection. For ignorant souls, who go around having sex when they have an insignificant itch, perhaps your claims are valid. However, for a responsible person who knows how to deal with outbreaks, these risks are quasi-inexistant. Who on earth would be having sex during an outbreak anyway? If hsv2 is a "pathway to more horrors", then isn't having oral hsv1 identical?
Avatar m tn you can have your oral herpes infection cause lesions in the nose area but many other things can cause this too. best to be seen monday and have a proper exam done.
