Avatar f tn Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar m tn I just had my umbilical hernia surgery 2.5 weeks ago with mesh. If you have the surgery without mesh you could have another hernia as your putting strain down below and it could come through another weak point. It also can get bigger and quite ugly. It is your intestines that you are pushing and squishing back into your body. It's amazing how much we use stomach. Anything you do while working out, you will use your stomach muscles. A support belt would help you out.
Avatar m tn i done inguinal hernia surgery 7 days ago with Bard Mesh, after 2 days of hospitalization, i got discharge from hospital. Everything was normal, after 3 days of surgery, i found out that there is rashes with itching all over body. When i approach with same problem to surgeon he advised me for tablet a day as this is kind of allergy, for first day tablet work properly. On second day, rashes reoccurred in session of 12 hours.
Avatar f tn I suggest seeing your doctor! Do you know what procedure was performed for your previous surgery? I personally don't like the mesh type of surgery.
7929968 tn?1395492362 I have First Assisted on hundreds of umbilical hernia repairs, with and without mesh. It certainly sounds like a infection to me. I would tell my Doc "humor me" and put me on antibiotics! What's it going to hurt? Best wishes!
1577722 tn?1310624684 t really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia. I am due to have surgery in March. After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.
Avatar f tn A family member has a new inguinal hernia. It's not super painful, but there's a bulge about the size of half an egg cut longways, which gets bigger when he coughs or anything, but then goes back down to egg-sized. It also gets sore when he does too much walking or gets constipated. He's only had this hernia 2-3 weeks. It hurt much more at first, and never been nearly as painful as when it first happened, but he has some pain a few times a day, but its not really bad.
Avatar f tn This one product represented a tiny fraction of the mesh hernia repairs that have been done. There are now many variations and even mesh made from biological material such that surgeons can choose the ideal mesh for each situation. Risks such as infection are quite low. The best time to repair a hernia is when it is found.
415684 tn?1257329318 My mother had a mesh put during her initial debulking surgery and not due to a hernia problem. She developed a nodule at the site from which they drained fluid to diagnose her OVC. She is now 4 months post op but still feels lot of stretch internally at the mesh site. Other than that she has had no problems. She was even able to take IP chemo with this mesh inside.
Avatar f tn The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
Avatar n tn It is rare to do an umbilical hernia without mesh these days, unless it is a tiny hernia. While unlikely, after all this time, it could be an infection of the repair. It is also very possible that it is an infection completely unrelated to the surgery, but either way it should be checked out.
Avatar m tn Gastric bypass 2012, lap chole 2013, exploratory lap 2014, panniculectomy 2015, ventral hernia repair 2015, mesh removal from hernia repair with exp lap 2016, and recently open epigastric incisional hernia repair 2/21/2017. I am one month post op from recent surgery. Immediately upon opening my eyes from surgery I knew something was different. I had extreme pain, more pain then I've had with any surgery I've had.
Avatar m tn Hiatal Hernia repair - recently I had surgery to repair a Paraoesophageal hernia. The following notes were written by the surgeon whom has moved to an unknown hospital and I can not contact. I am wondering if you can tell me whether or not the surgeon has used a mesh in the repair or simply just sutured it. He writes - Two 2-0 Prolene sutures to close diaphram with pledgets. One suture anteriorly. Snug closure over 52 Fr bougie. Redo 360 wrap with three 2-0 Novafil sutures. Hemostatis intact.
Avatar m tn A second exploratory surgery was performed to see if the femoral nerve was entrapped in any way with the mesh from the hernia surgery. The nerve appeared free from the mesh. I have had every nerve block available in my spine, in my pelvic region, and in my testicle. I have been on pain medication for over two years and have tried several nerve medications, (Nuerotin and Lyrica) to no avail. I am getting to the end of my rope with pain and options for treatment.
Avatar m tn had hernia surgery in march ,hurt more now than before surgery, what the hell is going on?
Avatar f tn (There is a small % of women who react to the mesh itself with POP procedures just as there are with hernia surgeries.) The biologic mesh may hold up a tiny bit better than stiches alone but not by much from the feedback I've heard. I'm sure there will more studies on biologic mesh and maybe at some point they'll marry both types of mesh to get the best of both worlds.
Avatar m tn I had a mesh put into my stomach wall to seal off a hernia. 8 months later i still have discomfort and mild pain in the pubic area. The pain radiates across both sides of the pubic area. It is impacting parts of my life. Has anybody had the same thing and what was done about it?
Avatar f tn So I had a inguinal hernia repair about 2weeks ago on my left side and everything has been going good I hope I’m just a really worried person on account that I try not to do much ...
Avatar f tn over 15 yrs ago I had a double mastectomy followed by a tram flap, they used a mesh to keep my core strong, now I have a herniated belly button, it oozes out fluid, scabs up, then falls off, then it starts all over again, my stomach hurts constantly, when I go to even use my muscles to pull myself up out of bed my stomach spasms, it hurts on a daily basis, one side of my stomach is lopsided, like its sticking out, my stomach used to be flat, now its rounded, hard and distended, my doctor says I
Avatar m tn In August I had a second traditional open surgery for the same hernia...During the winter it also failed..I am wondering whether to try surgery again with all the misery and difficulty or try to live with it with a truss..The surgeon insists that this has not happened in 500 such operations and that additional surgery will require considerably more work and methods due to all the mesh involved. I am very active and need input...Please offer suggestions....
Avatar f tn Hi, This is difficult to correct without surgery. In fact, delay will only gradually exacerbate the present hernia, and the gap in your abdominal muscles around the umbilicus will widen with time. Unfortunately, heavy exercises too will worsen the condition, so I would not recommend these till you are properly evaluated by a surgeon.
478868 tn?1209031705 I also had many other complications but they had to do an emergency surgery to repair it...I know the mesh Laney is talking about because I had that mesh under my original incision but from the constant nausea and dry heaves is what caused this to happen...but in your case they will most likely repair it as an outpatient surgery.....Good Luck and please keep us posted....
Avatar n tn my hernia surgery was open type with no mesh used.
Avatar m tn At times I still experience pain at the hernia site. They used mesh to repair the hernia. This mesh feels like a hard service, much harder than the left side in which I had an orchiectomy in 2000. Just recently in 2009 I came down with an abscess on top of the hernia scar. They thought that this could have been due to having a suprapubic catheter in. Even after the abscess was drained (basicaly cut open and left to drain) I still experience discomfort in that region from time to time.
Avatar f tn I herniated my incision while in the hospital. So I now have no abdominal wall left and just mesh, after two hernia operations. I have mesh from under my rib cage the entire way down and the whole way across. My stomach has now herniated the mesh and in a CT scan my bowel is herniated, not strangulated though. They said because it goes back in. I am in constant pain and my doctors here act like I shouldn't be. I don't understand it...
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery 7 1/2 wks ago cannot believe the pain i have had. It was a spagelian hernia and I am a female. After surgery my incision & other private parts swelled up the size of a cantelope and turned black & blue , so pain full couldn't walk. bruising and swollen from upper thighs to belly button and around both sides. Said it's a hematoma. Used mesh but that's all I really know.
3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
Avatar f tn after my boyfriend had hernia surgery the Dr used mesh to cover the hole there is pinching and pulling on the left side where the hernia was, his surgery was July 29th, he still sleeps on the couch This discussion is related to Hernia complications.
