Avatar n tn This approach allows the doctor to repair the hernia or other complicating factors at the same time as correcting the hydrocele. Some surgeons use a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach to repair a hydrocele. The operation is performed through a tiny incision using a lighted, camera-tipped, tube-like instrument (laparoscope) that allows the passage of instruments for the repair while displaying images of the procedure on a monitor in the operating room" www.surgeryencyclopedia.
Avatar m tn had hernia surgery in march ,hurt more now than before surgery, what the hell is going on?
415684 tn?1257329318 Things are a little hectic around home and at work. Having said that, I would like to know if any of you have had a hernia repair OF THE ENTIRE scar. I have a hernia to the left of my navel and the surgeon wants to put mesh down the entire length of the scar to prevent further tearing. Have any of you had this procedure and how "bad" is it?
Avatar f tn Hi, it depends on the extent of meshing that needs to be done. Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar m tn t even evuluate me for that, and honestly I am not prepared to have hernia surgery anyway (I hope hydrocele surgery is a bit easier to recover?). I was wondering, is it pointless to repair the hydrocele only if I have hernia on the same side? It is causing me some discomfort and problems, and I want to have it fixed.
Avatar f tn I have had a large abdominal hernia since last year after having some surgery. I went to see a surgeon about it in December 2011, he said that I needed alot of mesh with the repair as I have had several abdominal surgeries and he thinks it best to reinforce some of my abdominal walls. I am a little hesitant about the mesh as I have heard some horror stories about developing infection from the mesh. What do you think?
Avatar n tn U r welcome. I am not really well informed on this proceedure....I was dx with my hiatal hernia while still in high school, and I have not had a surgery.I also was able to go yrs with out meds....
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery a year ago, not too long after the surgery i realized that it was back. I didn't think anything about it, but the past month I have had really bad pain, worse pain than when I got it fixed the first time. The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
Avatar n tn HI, I had a hernia repair 3 weeks ago where bowel was in the hernia. It was a large hernia but I still have on and off fleeting little discomfor pains on the side of the repair. It is that unusual or will it take awhile yet large piece of mesh used. Going back to work Mon. with a wgt limit.
Avatar m tn Hiatal Hernia repair - recently I had surgery to repair a Paraoesophageal hernia. The following notes were written by the surgeon whom has moved to an unknown hospital and I can not contact. I am wondering if you can tell me whether or not the surgeon has used a mesh in the repair or simply just sutured it. He writes - Two 2-0 Prolene sutures to close diaphram with pledgets. One suture anteriorly. Snug closure over 52 Fr bougie. Redo 360 wrap with three 2-0 Novafil sutures. Hemostatis intact.
Avatar m tn I would suggest avoiding abdominal exercises that increase the tension around the region of hernia repair for sometime. For groin hernia/ repair walking, swimming, pushups are considered the best exercises. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn After an inguinal hernia repair ~1 year ago, I am still experiencing erectile dysfunction and weak ejaculation. No issues whatsoever prior to surgery but issues immediately after. In the surgery report it said they had to sacrifice the genitofemoral and ilioinguinal nerve branches due to severe adhesion to the hernia. Post-operation I have not since had "morning wood" and have experienced somewhat of a decrease in size (both flaccid and erect).

Avatar m tn Gastric bypass 2012, lap chole 2013, exploratory lap 2014, panniculectomy 2015, ventral hernia repair 2015, mesh removal from hernia repair with exp lap 2016, and recently open epigastric incisional hernia repair 2/21/2017. I am one month post op from recent surgery. Immediately upon opening my eyes from surgery I knew something was different. I had extreme pain, more pain then I've had with any surgery I've had.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed with a hernia and needed to have surgery to repair it. They used a mesh for the repair. This was a few years ago. Since then my mother has been through 8 hernia repair surgeries. They repair it, then it comes back. Usually in less than 60 days time. I can't help but feel something is not being done properly. Should I have her see a new doctor and surgeon or should we speak with a lawyer.
Avatar n tn I got operation on 11/30/2011 for multiple inguinal hernia. Bilateral scope surgery. I had this hernia for over 15 years. As of right now I feel tenderness and throbing in my left scrotum. "the same EXACT pain i had when I had my hernia" I was constipated for about 4 days. after 4 days I was ok using restroom. I have to use it now however I have pain in scrotum and scared to use any muscles cause it feels like something will bust out of my testicles if I try pushing. Please help.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between a hiatal hernia and a paraesophagial hernia? Do they grow in size and if so could that explain why my cough is back now since they were aware that I had some kind of hernia as shown on my previous scope. If they were to go in and fix the hernia and the Nissen, am I likely to have the same kinds of issues that I experienced with my previous Nissen surgery? Would I be starting all over again?
440989 tn?1281001534 It is 4 weeks post laproscopic hiatal hernia repair. I am slowly healing. I am noticing my breathing has become more labored then pre surgery. First thing in the morning I am finding myself short of breathe immediately after standing up. Also, I have a second floor study and find myself breathing heavy after climbing the stairs. I have begun walking and doing breathing exercises which seems to improve the process. Is there anything else I can do?

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with and had a Spigelian hernia repaired five and a half years ago when I was 26. Since the surgery, I have had pain on my left side (around the area of the repair). The surgeon placed four permanent sutures to the mesh to hold it in place until it established itself. He mentioned he usually attached this to fat, but I did not have enough fat for him to do this. This was his first Spigelian surgery.
Avatar n tn First off they dont remove a hernia, they repair it...but yes you should go to the Dr and discuss your options, especially if your feeling discomfort... majority of hernia repairs are done in day surgery, they are very common and are basically a routine surgery for a lot of Drs... and yes hernias can become bigger...
Avatar n tn following umbilical hernia repair i have a fluid collection of fluid believed to be seroma does this drain on its own, disperess or does one need a drain inserted.
Avatar m tn I had laparoscopic surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. After 4 months, the hernia returned, and so I had a second repair surgery by incision. Now, 10 months after the second operation, I'm having some odd "tearing" pains and tenderness under the incision site, and down toward my groin. I'm trying to understand the geometry of the two repairs.
Avatar f tn The procedure is a good choice for people whose hernias recur following traditional hernia surgery because laparoscopic methods allow surgeons to work around scar tissue from earlier repair. It's also good for people who have hernias on both sides of the body (bilateral inguinal hernias). Disadvantages of laparoscopic repair include an increased risk of complications and of recurrence following surgery.
Avatar m tn m 45 andI just discovered today that the hernia repair that I had in 2006 has let go. They used mesh to repair it. After the surgery it seems like my right testicle seems to fixed in place and no longer can move freely. I'm aspecialy worried as I lost my left testicle in 2000 as the result of a staph infection. I currently have been noticing a burning stabbing pain in the right groin and there is a bit of a bump there that was not there yesterday. I also am looking for answers.
