801034 tn?1237732523 I'm going to have surgery on my nose(Septa-Rhinoplasty) and they're going to open up my throat and operate on my sinuses also. What is the prognosis of this procedure and how long is the recuperation of this?
Avatar m tn Retinal detachment surgery is major surgery, with a LONG recovery time. It may be 6 to 12 months before the final results of recovery of vision is obtained. Even if the retina is put back in place the vision may not return to pre-detachment levels.
Avatar f tn They answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. So, I feel lucky that I am having the surgery done by this Gyn/Onc and the hospital that he is associated with. Looking forward to my recuperation time and have stocked myself up with frozen dinners, prunes (LOL), and lots of good books. Thanks so much to all of you for your advice, comments and best wishes. The best is yet to come. See you on the other side.
Avatar m tn 1) medical management, 2) interventional catheterization, and 3) cardiovascular surgery. Depending upon the location and severity of the dissection, your physician will decide which option is best for you. Your doctor chooses medical management... Another opinion may recommend surgery! A small percent of cases (5 - 10%) are Type B dissections (dissections of the descending aorta). This condition can be treated with surgical repair, but it carries significant risk.
Avatar f tn I had surgery 1/2/08. I now walk with a cane if I go out, but am experiencing a lot of pain. I don't want to go back to narcotic pain relievers and have been trying to cope with Darvocet and ibuprofen. During the day, I can handle the pain except for some very hard, fast stabbing pains that make me stop in my tracks for a few minutes. But at night, the pain, which is like a very bad toothache from just above my knees to my ankles, keeps waking me up.
306307 tn?1317053518 Getting VERY nervous about my upcoming surgery Wednesday, The nurse called me and told me my doctor had a family emergency and another doctor( in the same group) that I havent even met yet may perform the surgery. I go meet him Tuesday and have surgery Wednesday, I'm having 2nd thoughts but yet know I wanna feel better. I tend to think the worst so I'm scared. I asked if I could wait till my doc gets back but they said they didnt know if he was coming back...
217599 tn?1202850952 If he takes the medication as ordered, and only as needed for pain during the recuperation period, he shouldn't have a problem. Everyone is different, so it's difficult to say how long any one person has to take it before they become addicted, but in general, the recuperation period from surgery shouldn't be a problem as long as he follows the presciption instructions and doesn't adjust his own dosage and take more than he's supposed to at any one time.
Avatar f tn I had a retinal detachment last summer and this will be my 4th sugery since I developed cataracts that formed from the vitrectomy and scleral buckle surgeries. Earlier this week my doctor discovered a cyst that formed due to inflammation. I'm due for surgery sometime in April and was told that if necessary it can be removed along with the cataracts. Is this something common? How will it affect my eyesight and recuperation?
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
486831 tn?1209148864 Well - I had surgery on Monday. It looks like it was endometriosis. Had to do a full hysterectomy. Oh well - It WASN"T CANCER! Yippie! Of course they will do more in depth biopsy and that will take a few weeks. But doc said he was pretty confident. In a little bit of pain mostly in the shoulders from the laproscopy, but other than that doing well. I want to thank each and everyone on this board for their support, advice and encouragment. It's meant so much.
1580703 tn?1651904887 The doctor examined me and found a groin hernia and I'm scheduled for surgery in sept. I think I want laproscopic but am I going to end up with permanent pain? will the mesh or non-tension method fail to stop the hernia from progressing? I think it's from the gym or coughing from this tracheotomy I'm getting this crippling nausea sometimes and sometimes protonix helps. is it from the hernia or diabetes or GERD? thanks!
Avatar m tn Have been on Plavix for 13 months and find I need Hernia surgery now as I am having having many problems due to the Hernia. What is the possibility of having surgery? If I have surgery is the Plavix stopped for a number of days and then resumed?
1103592 tn?1274753561 Any every have a hernia while pregnant? I was complaining the baby's head was so low it was hurting - saw my dr today & it turns out it's a hernia! Grrr- at least baby sounds great (got to hear her hiccups on doplar!). Guess I'll goggle hernias until my surgery consult in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds. I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
Avatar m tn I have already planned the surgery to fix the hernia for next week . 2 days ago I had an ultrasound which showed that I have gallbladder sludge and maybe some very small stones . I never had any pains in the stomach and the only thing that might be a symptoms is some digestive problems . The doctor advised that since I am going to surgery for the hernia I should proceed with the removal of the gallbladder .
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
Avatar f tn Thanks a lot for give us this important space where to get such information about to many concerns. I was diagnosed breast cancer in my right breast Ductal carcinoma in Situ, And mastectomy is the recommendation. My conflict , is like the member mayg: Tram Flap or Tissue Expander? by maryg May 07, 2004 12:00AM "I'm not crazy about the scarring I have seen on the breast and stomach that goes along with tram flap, but also want to have the best long-term result.
Avatar f tn I need gallbladder surgery in the near future. I have abdominal meshing and want to know if they can do laproscopic surgery on me or not. ANYONE have my issue?
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar n tn Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia? is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
Avatar m tn If the doctor suggests the stents, I would certainly go for that. It requires minimal surgery, is quite safe and minimizes hospital stay to one day. After that, one week of taking it easy (mainly for the entry wound). The patient will have to take anticoagulant meds for a year to prevent clotting of the stents. The by-pass surgery requires a much longer hospital stay (8 days?) and a much longer recuperation time (>3 months). The stent solution is a quick and easy fix.
