1475202 tn?1536270977 I have not drank since diagnosis but I still enjoy my cigarettes. How much damage and recovery am I risking by continuing to smoke 3/4 pack a day? I like to think my doctor might be mistaken that I am a candidate for transplant. Would you mind sharing your opinion? 1444487 tn?1284392849 I'm writing about my fiance. He had an inguinal hernia surgery (open), back in February. Here we are, 7 months later, and he's still in debilitating pain. He has a triangle of pain on the side he was operated on. It goes from his belly button to his left testicle, to his left hip. He normally was a truck driver, and did auto body work in his free time. He has literally been on the couch or in bed for 7 months.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar f tn I had surgery for ectopic pregnancy seven weeks ago, had my right tube removed, I've made a good recovery, I havn't smoked since the surgery and I know I shouldn't start again really but I'm curious would it be safe to smoke again now?
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information about possible surgery, yes I also have a hiatus hernia buy surgery wasn't mentioned at all, just repeat upper endoscopy every year. They did find Barretts but biopsy didn't show malignancy (knock on wood) but have to take PPI's for rest of my life. I have several other risks for surgery, one of the worst is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, not sure if this eliminates me from ANY surgery in the future, except (knocking wood) an emergency.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
2085202 tn?1373199740 Laparoscopic fundoplication has low complication rates and a quick recovery. The procedure sometimes fails over time, requiring a second surgery to make repairs. Discuss all the possibilities and the outcomes with your doctor and then decide on the surgical option. In the meantime follow lifestyle measures to help with your symptoms. Take frequent small meals. Eat dinner about two hours before sleeping. Elevate the head end of the bed.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
440989 tn?1281001534 It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.
Avatar m tn After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
454221 tn?1259445739 I'm almost 34 y/o. Have 4 kids. After the 4th pregnancy I now have an umbilical hernia that I would like to repair, but I might also need an abdominoplasty as well. Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.
Avatar f tn How old is the child and has the hernia increased in size.? Has the pediatrician of the child suggested surgery to you .?.
Avatar f tn so i had the ultrasound and the cyst is not major thank god and now I just have to get surgery to take out hernia and close the hole so every thing is great and I will be just fine
Avatar n tn Also, my lower esophagus pressure is very low, its a 5 and needs to be at least an 8 to keep food down so I am going to have the hiatal hernia removed and my esophagus tightened. What should I expect after the surgery as far as pain and the recovery time? Is it possible that the wrap will help my condition the first time?
Avatar n tn I had a seroma after surgery for a hernia in Sept of 2008. It is now Feb of 2010 and there is still some fluid. Dr.'s just say. OH well gotta live with it. Very disappointing.
