The fact that your surgery is "soon" and not immediately necessary is indicative of your surgeon's assessment of the hernia and that the hernia is not imminently dangerous to your health at this time. Avatar f tn That is going to take a while. Cuz the cut may look like it heal but it takes a very long time to heal from the insides (months) if u don't give it enough time to heal u may get a hernia. Then ull need surgery again. But it's best to let ur doc make the decision of when ur ready. I had a cyst removed from an ovary a few years ago thru my belly button. It was a total of 3 incisions n went back to exercise in 6 weeks n got a small hernia in my belly button.
Avatar n tn Hello! I am in my 5th week of recovery from my Chiari reduction surgery. I am perfectly aware of my restrictions for the next two months. But I am not aware of any life-long restrictions. Are there any things that your doctors have told you is forbidden following Chiari surgery?

1654177 tn?1319838494 A family member who has a love affair with food had the surgery and violated dietary restrictions, and tore loose the stiches in week 2. Hope that helps.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar n tn Hi, I was wondering why you can't bend over or lift objects after cataract surgery. Is the problem related to increased pressure when you bend over or just heart rate and increased blood flow? Just wondering because some things make it sound so easy, like you just can't perform STRENUOUS tasks while other warn against things like climbing stairs too quickly... Also, what exactly are these restrictions trying to prevent?
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
Avatar f tn how dangerous is the replacement surgery? what is the recovery like? restrictions? should I plan to be off work longer than the day of the replacement to stay home with him?
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
Avatar n tn compared to the recovery time/discomfort/lifting restrictions that come with the original implant surgery, how extensive / difficult/ time consuming is an implant replacement surgery? I am self-employed and travel extensively to teach seminars for a living. These are scheduled out one year or more; cancellations with little or no warning (to accommodate an unanticipated implant replacement surgery would wreak havoc with my business.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.
Avatar f tn I just had the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (NF) on 02/28/2011, and had my Gallbladder removed on 10/28/2010. Up until early 2010, I was fine. No symptoms. I then contacted MRSA in May, and all symptoms seemed to follow. I am 35 years old, as symptoms started when I was 34. My stomach was mildly achy all the time and I was nauseated constantly. A heating pad was my best friend, and still is to this day. It got worse, along with heatburn, nausea, and regurgitation.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar f tn when I asked after my surgery I was told that after the recovery period (2weeks) there was no restrictions at all!!! I was surprised when I found this forum and found that the advice given to others here was very different from that. So, it is a good idea to ask your NS but also even if they say there are no restrictions, I would really watch yourself. There are many times still when I realize too late that something I had lifted or done has caused me damage and set me back by weeks.
599170 tn?1300973893 That might negate the ability to return to school within a 2 day postop recovery. It is important to maintain any restrictions given by the surgeon to reduce the risk of complications.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
440989 tn?1281001534 It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.
1684237 tn?1305217744 about a year ago I had a scope because it was becoming intolerable. The heartburn is actually pretty well controlled, it's the stomach pain that is causing me so much trouble. I finally decided in may to take the doctor's advice and have the surgery. I've been terrified ever since! Not particularly because of the surgery, but because of my anxiety issues. I've had problems with anesthesia in the past, waking up during procedures.
