If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks.

Did your son require surgery? And how was his recovery? We are in the adoption process and considering a young girl with this heart problem and I have talked to drs at CHOP and Hopkins and get hopeful at times and then discourage at other time and we have three kids at home.

The last surgery was laprascopic. The surgery I had back in Sept was a horizonal laparotomy. I read that with the laprascopic the return to work and normal activity is 4-6 weeks. I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

My Gynecologist thinks I have a hernia. I have a CT scheduled for Friday and a follow up on Tuesday to discuss results and the plan. It's looking like, either way, I'm having another surgery. If it's not a hernia and nothing else alarming shows up, they will assume it's scar tissue and likely to a laparscopy to look for and break up scar tissue/adhesions. I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.

Hi Gail, As a nurse in the recovery room, I see incisional hernias all the time. The hernia develops from a weakness in the wall of the muscle that was cut for your original surgery. Alot of times if it is bothersome or large enough, they will take you back to surgery, may place some mesh against the muscle to reinforce it and it can be day surgery. Most can do it laparoscopically, so less recovery time in the hospital.

Hi, This is difficult to correct without surgery. In fact, delay will only gradually exacerbate the present hernia, and the gap in your abdominal muscles around the umbilicus will widen with time. Unfortunately, heavy exercises too will worsen the condition, so I would not recommend these till you are properly evaluated by a surgeon.

Anyone getting a vag reconstruct? I know it sounds vain but I have birthed 5 children and 1 of them was after my tubes where tied the prev year. I just got the essure done and am praying that with the tubal I had plus the essure I wont get preggo again. You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday.After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. I am noticing my breathing has become more labored then pre surgery. First thing in the morning I am finding myself short of breathe immediately after standing up. Also, I have a second floor study and find myself breathing heavy after climbing the stairs. I have begun walking and doing breathing exercises which seems to improve the process. Is there anything else I can do?

My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

How old is the child and has the hernia increased in size.? Has the pediatrician of the child suggested surgery to you .?.

Thanks so much for responding. I have 4 kids and I think I fear the most is dying after the surgery. I don't want take a risk that could possible leave my kids without a mother. Might be silly worrying about it. I'm suppose to see another plastic surgeon on May 4th and I will ask if they use the same procedures to prevent blood clots. Is it common for 34 y/o to have blood clots after this surgery?

I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?

well from what the doctors saying they say i do have hernia and a hole in my belly button somewhere in there after the surgery also i may have a cyst that i'll be getting an ultasound to check to see if it needs removal sooo i belive god will bring me through the surgery and I will have strength to recover in jesus name amen So now i gotta get ultrasound.

The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things. ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle.
