hernia surgery recovery how long

Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....

Has anyone every had any experience with this? What type of surgery was done and how long was the recovery time? What type of limitations were set after the surgery and for how long? DH is our only source of income at this point and while this is most likely going to be a workmans comp issue I want to be prepared. Thanks for any insight!

Have them show you pictures -- this is very advanced, high-tech surgery that involves reshaping your spine, fusing vertebrae, and installing titanium hardware to support your spine during the long healing process. Sometimes multiple surgeries are necessary.

I suggest you bring this up with your doctor where he could examine you and run the appropriate tests. How long has your breathing problems been going on and are they getting worse? I have read that sometimes the hernia can come back after surgery. Other than that, I don't know...I hope that you find answers soon.

Hi, It depends on how large the hernia is. I had one repaired with mesh in 2006. Now I can still feel a hard tissue at the sight where the hernia was. I can also feel something if I sleep on my right side, as well as when I sneeze or cough. There is no bulging like there was before, but things do not feel like it did prior to the hernia surgery. Mine was an incarcerated hernia and I was in hospital for about 4 days.

Was there any risks involve when doing the surgery?

I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?

i am not anemic, have seen pulmonologist, and surgeon. how long can i expect fatigue to plague me.

its been longer recovery than i thought but now i really want to know how long until i can work out and also until i can have sex again? im scared to do either but im starting to feel depressed and i think its partially because i just sit around everynight so exhausted from the minimal movement ive had to do at work all day. i feel like a bum, the day starts out great but by the time i get home at 530 im so tired im just lazy and doing nothing.

Remember, though, that this is MAJOR surgery, and the recovery process takes a really long time. My aquaintence expects to need help around the house for at least a year. She has other health issues, too, but the point is that this is a very big deal. The longer you can put off this surgery, the better off you'll be. Now that I know more about it myself, I prefer waiting and even doing everything I can to control my GERD with necessary dietary change and such.

Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.

My mother had a mesh put during her initial debulking surgery and not due to a hernia problem. She developed a nodule at the site from which they drained fluid to diagnose her OVC. She is now 4 months post op but still feels lot of stretch internally at the mesh site. Other than that she has had no problems. She was even able to take IP chemo with this mesh inside.

My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I had a seroma after surgery for a hernia in Sept of 2008. It is now Feb of 2010 and there is still some fluid. Dr.'s just say. OH well gotta live with it. Very disappointing.

Having hiatal hernia (Nissen) surgery in a few days. My questions are : How soon would it be safe to climb stairs? When can I resume exercising? Some say that sit ups would strengthen the abdomen. Is that true? if so when should I start that? Reading the blog, most people are complaining about not being able to eat. Is this a normal? Would it be better to do a liquid diet for awhile? If so, How long should it be?

This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!

Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.
