This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.

This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. my hernia surgery. I went in for minor surgery on one hernia; ended up a three-hour procedure involving two more very large hernias; the surgeon told me that there was a section of bowel lying outside the ab wall; apparently this had been going on for some time. Pre-existing conditions: a replaced mechanical aortic heart valve, have had three other bowel obstruction surgeries, among numerous other minor things. Have been treated for depression in the past.........I am a 72-year old female.

My mother had a mesh put during her initial debulking surgery and not due to a hernia problem. She developed a nodule at the site from which they drained fluid to diagnose her OVC. She is now 4 months post op but still feels lot of stretch internally at the mesh site. Other than that she has had no problems. She was even able to take IP chemo with this mesh inside.

I had double hiatia hernia surgery in Sept. 2006. My recovery was fine and within the year i lost 100 pounds and have kept it off. The other day I was sick and coughing a lot. All at once it felt like my somach ripped open inside. the pain was horrible for about 10 to 15 minutes. I couldn't stand up staight. Just as I called my husband home to take me to the hospital it started to loosen up and ease off.

I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?

Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.

My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.

Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.

It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.

After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.

My recovery was quick and very easy. I had a great surgeon and also I had the surgery before there was a lot of damage done. I made sure that I only ate what I was suppose to and ate only 1/2 cup at a time about every 2 to 3 hours. The one time I ate more, I had the shoulder pain and went for a long walk and this helped. I was on soft food when I went home from the hospital and ate still only 1/2 cup. I ate blended foods. No tomato, carbinated drink or any acid food.

I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!

I'm almost 34 y/o. Have 4 kids. After the 4th pregnancy I now have an umbilical hernia that I would like to repair, but I might also need an abdominoplasty as well. Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.

Hi all - I'm taking my sibling to the hospital in a few weeks for a hernia operation. They said that the hospital said that I must stay at the hospital until after their surgery is complete. I've never heard of this policy before, I thought maybe my sibling is saying this because they have severe anxiety at times. Before I question them about it, I wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard of such a policy? Thank you for any feedback.
