Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi aliparkone, If she has undergone a laparoscopic surgery, the recovery time is faster. She can go home in 2-3 days. She might have pain at the surgery site for which pain killers can be taken.Generally a semi-solid diet is presribed from the 2nd or 3rd day during the first week. If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks.
Avatar f tn NS said he didn't find anything unexpected, and I don't think he was looking for anything in particular. He was also surprised at how quickly I noticed improvement in my breathing. I tire easily and my head/neck hurt constantly, but it's great to be at home! At least at home I can manage my own pain meds -- I didn't have a pump, so had to beg for meds all the time when pain got bad...then had to WAIT for pharmacy to send up my flexeril. So lame!
2042217 tn?1336527852 With a good abdominoplasty there are chances that the belly button will be normal in appearance after surgery. After surgery you can go home once the effect of anesthesia wares off. You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

Avatar f tn I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.
Avatar f tn ( they are going to do it again in two weeks. I called them they said he didn't cry there at all just barked, which he does bc he has anxiety away from me. :( but now all he is doing is running in circles trying to get at the incission and crying.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar m tn m taking my sibling to the hospital in a few weeks for a hernia operation. They said that the hospital said that I must stay at the hospital until after their surgery is complete. I've never heard of this policy before, I thought maybe my sibling is saying this because they have severe anxiety at times. Before I question them about it, I wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard of such a policy? Thank you for any feedback.
518798 tn?1295212279 So happy to hear you're home and doing so well.I'm keeping you in my prayers.Take care and enjoy your show....Much love..............
415684 tn?1257329318 Things are a little hectic around home and at work. Having said that, I would like to know if any of you have had a hernia repair OF THE ENTIRE scar. I have a hernia to the left of my navel and the surgeon wants to put mesh down the entire length of the scar to prevent further tearing. Have any of you had this procedure and how "bad" is it?
Avatar f tn my hernia surgery. I went in for minor surgery on one hernia; ended up a three-hour procedure involving two more very large hernias; the surgeon told me that there was a section of bowel lying outside the ab wall; apparently this had been going on for some time. Pre-existing conditions: a replaced mechanical aortic heart valve, have had three other bowel obstruction surgeries, among numerous other minor things. Have been treated for depression in the past.........I am a 72-year old female.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar n tn I had double hiatia hernia surgery in Sept. 2006. My recovery was fine and within the year i lost 100 pounds and have kept it off. The other day I was sick and coughing a lot. All at once it felt like my somach ripped open inside. the pain was horrible for about 10 to 15 minutes. I couldn't stand up staight. Just as I called my husband home to take me to the hospital it started to loosen up and ease off.
Avatar m tn I've been having problems for the last two years pretty bad, seemingly random symptoms that didn't fit anything. I finally found a good doctor that is not hesitant to refer me to whomever else may be of help. I am very thankful, but a bit depressed that although I finally know what's going on, there are no options for me. On my CT scan, they identified one supra umbilical ventral hernia, a para midline hernia, very large spaced diastasis recti and retrocardiac hiatal hernia..
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
Avatar f tn My recovery was quick and very easy. I had a great surgeon and also I had the surgery before there was a lot of damage done. I made sure that I only ate what I was suppose to and ate only 1/2 cup at a time about every 2 to 3 hours. The one time I ate more, I had the shoulder pain and went for a long walk and this helped. I was on soft food when I went home from the hospital and ate still only 1/2 cup. I ate blended foods. No tomato, carbinated drink or any acid food.
440989 tn?1281001534 It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.
454221 tn?1259445739 The risk of blood clots exits, but with an experienced surgeon, use of intermittent calf compression boots at surgery, relatively short operative time, and early ambulation, I have not seen this complication in over twenty years. Occasional seromas and minor wound healing issues are more common. Recovery time is usually about two weeks.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
1262699 tn?1277854959 I had laparoscopy surgery at 28 to remove some mild Endometriosis in my cul de sac. Before that I had to be confined to my house for 7 weeks because of how painful the pain was. My surgery went well. However, I don't seem to recover in the 2-3 week period like they always say. By the fourth week I thought I was feeling better so I started walking 25 minutes every morning after breakfast and doing some light work like dishes.
Avatar n tn Also, my lower esophagus pressure is very low, its a 5 and needs to be at least an 8 to keep food down so I am going to have the hiatal hernia removed and my esophagus tightened. What should I expect after the surgery as far as pain and the recovery time? Is it possible that the wrap will help my condition the first time?
1823499 tn?1370090289 Glad to be home. Still not up to typing much but will update yas about my surgery soon. Dr oro had to do a lot. He opened my dura then went to put the percardium in and I had a bleed in that tissue so he fixed that then took tissue from diff spot. Had to shave off more bone put in medium plate and also had to cauterize my right tonsil. It was turning white like a calus and hardening. He said the surgery was def needed. Tired and sore.
