Avatar n tn My 88 yr old grandmother with severe COPD (on O2 24/7) fractured her hip last night. She also has a 3.4 mm aoritc anuerism. Surgery is being recommended. What questions/concerns to be asked/voiced with reguards to anesthesia and postoperative care?
Avatar f tn ll have a lot of questions for the Dr. If a person gets surgery on a hernia will it not come back then anymore, or can it still?

3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
1046985 tn?1305117048 I have had multiple abdom surgeries, appentectomy, 2x ceasarians, hysterectomy, and moderate hernia repair and removal of adhesions. My last surgery was 2003 for hernia repair after MVA. Since then I have had nagging pain in right ovary area, that was initially treated as nerve pain associated with titanium screw used to anchor mesh for hernia repair. My episodes of acute pain started about 12 months ago, and 9 weeks ago I was hospitalised for pain relief.
Avatar f tn I am 34 and want this pain to go away and the area to be repaired so in the future this will not happen again. Any suggestions or questions to ask at appointment will be helpful! Thank you!!
Avatar m tn If one *needs* their hernia fixed, this is the only way I would go, and I would ask a huge amount of questions about nerves and scar tissue. If you can live with your problem, I would do that.
3134904 tn?1342639868 I have cholecystectomy clips from gallbladder and appendix removal that I had 5-6 years ago. A month after the surgery I also had inguinal hernia repair. Prior to these surgeries, I had laproscropic surgery to remove scar tissue from my uterus.. from a c-section. Well, here lately, I have been having chronic to severe pain, that's sharp and throbbing on my right side, sometimes it feels like something cold, and leaking going through somewhere. I was wondering what are my options?
Avatar n tn There are some horror stories there but at least it arms you to go in before surgery and ask those important questions. It is your body, Good luck!
Avatar m tn Come to find out, I did have a ingual (SP?) hernia. Surgery/recovery was a breeze. It definately helped get rid of that pain. Now if I could only get rid of the adbominal pain.
Avatar m tn I have not been able to ask the doctor for the pediatric endocrinology forum. There is no post button there. Why is that?
Avatar f tn Your visit to your high risk specialist will be very important, and I would suggest that you copy all the questions that you have listed here to ask at that visit! Then, write down all the answers you are given to read later after the visit. The answer to all of your questions is going to depend a lot on whether or not the baby does indeed have a diaphragmatic hernia, and if so, how severe it is.
Avatar n tn All you can do is make sure your surgeon answers all your questions to your satisfaction before the surgery. Ask him about his personal success rate in his own practice while you're at it. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!

329165 tn?1515471990 Hi all, I have a consult with the Surgeon in Adelaide (not the retired Surgeon, but his Associate) next week about getting a date for the Nissen Fund. and I have all my previous scopes and reports and everything ready and a bit anxious about it all when I read on here about people wanting to reverse Nissen Funds and complications and going for 3rd and 4th time!
Avatar m tn ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.
Avatar f tn It's possible you have a pre-existing hiatal hernia and the abdominal exercises 'uncovered' the problem. If someone has a hiatal hernia, any form of exercise that elevates pressures in the abdominal area presses upward on the stomach and that unfortunately allows the acidic contents of the stomach toward the esophagus. Unless the hiatal hernia is very problematic, the treatment for it is usually conservative - a change in lifestye, change in diet and meds to control acid reflux.
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery a year ago, not too long after the surgery i realized that it was back. I didn't think anything about it, but the past month I have had really bad pain, worse pain than when I got it fixed the first time. The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
Avatar f tn after my boyfriend had hernia surgery the Dr used mesh to cover the hole there is pinching and pulling on the left side where the hernia was, his surgery was July 29th, he still sleeps on the couch This discussion is related to Hernia complications.
Avatar m tn t had my eyes looked at since July) and I just thought it perhaps worth brainstroming to see what some sensible questions to ask her might be. My inclination at present is not to ask too much and just to let her get on with it. History if you remember - RD right eye 14 months ago following PVD. Aphakic in both eyes following complicated congenital cataract surgery. Brilliant outcome so far with the RD - no vision lost whatsoever and all entirely stable.
Avatar m tn hi the surgeon who has diagonised as para umbilical hernia has done so only after physical examination.
Avatar n tn Why has my hernia repair left a lump at the surgery site.
Avatar n tn The surgery is a minor surgery and will help the hernia to not get worse. This type of surgery is common and is not a big deal. However, surgery in general can cause scarring and has the potential to cause other problems. So, you can leave the hernia. Perhaps it will get worse or perhaps it will stay the same. Hernias in adults rarely close. Or you can get surgery, it is an outpatient surgery and common. But surgery is surgery and can have deletrious side affects.
