Avatar m tn My doctor told me that no surgery is needed, but my symptoms continue to get worse. I cough, belch, and suffer chest pain on a daily basis. Medicine rarely helps my condition. My question to you is: do you suggest that i have surgery to repair my hernia? My doctor does not believe surgery is necessary and i trust him, but i am in discomfort every day. Do you think surgery will help me?
Avatar m tn The summer of 09 I had surgery for colon cancer at Johns Hopkins. For the last 9 months Ive had pain in the right lower side of my abdomen. Walking, sitting, standing. Tends to be worse when I cross my legs..
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
Avatar n tn Hi Kate. OUCH dang girl. I just had triple hernia repair Monday 12-6 myself. No the sore muscles, pain, doesn't necessarily mean you've torn the site again. On the flip side it doesn't mean you haven't either. If you have unrelieved pain for an extended period of time say 3-5 days, or start noticing a lot of swelling, you need to get rechecked to ensure all is intact.
Avatar f tn t stand long enough to do the dishes, or go to the store because of the amount of walking it takes, and if I do I spend the rest of the day and night in pain bad enough I can barely move at all. Not only that, but the pain has begun spreading beyond the swelling at the hip. The hernia's on my left side, but the pain has spread down to my groin, and to my left side/back, and towards my right side too (about the same spot as my hernia, just the other side).
Avatar m tn i cant sleep from constant rolling in different positions to get comfortable. im gassy.. im walking to try to alleviate pain...still there..where they went thru belly button ..it is extremely painful and bloated..i look like im pregnant at 55 right side pain is constant...any suggestions...
Avatar m tn I would suggest avoiding abdominal exercises that increase the tension around the region of hernia repair for sometime. For groin hernia/ repair walking, swimming, pushups are considered the best exercises. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn Sounds like this could be a hernia. I had ongoing, recurring pain in my testicle for 3 years before a doctor finally gave me a thorough exam and found my hernia. The hernia wasn't detectable from underneath, the standard turn your head and cough method of checking. It was only after a thorough exam of my lower abdomen that the hernia was found. the doctor actually said "A lot of times these aren't found because doctors just don't look!
Avatar m tn Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge, burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
1216794 tn?1266506453 Did one of the two surgeons do the hernia repair?
Avatar m tn I had inguinal hernia on both sides. I opted for open surgery on Nov 2015. Post that i haven't had any physical activity except walking. I went for swimming on 20th july 2016. I had slight discomfort on the incision area for next few days after swimming. Is this normal? should i take any precautions?
Avatar f tn It's possible you have a pre-existing hiatal hernia and the abdominal exercises 'uncovered' the problem. If someone has a hiatal hernia, any form of exercise that elevates pressures in the abdominal area presses upward on the stomach and that unfortunately allows the acidic contents of the stomach toward the esophagus. Unless the hiatal hernia is very problematic, the treatment for it is usually conservative - a change in lifestye, change in diet and meds to control acid reflux.
Avatar f tn for sure its not hernia...hiatal hernia produce heart burn and pain in stomache not right lower abdomen....other types of hernia are visible at examination..they dont need ct scan for diagnosis. in your case it can be something blocking the ileocecal valve as its a narrow passage connectng small gut with large one. it can be gall stone, worm, hard piece of feces called fecolith or a growth.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar n tn I just had lap band surgery and a hiatal hernia repair on Monday, June 30th....I am a 47 y/o female weighing 228 at 5'3...I have never had a problem with my BP until after surgery...since surgery my BP has been anywhere from 158/99 lowest to 160;112,, and just standing up I become tachycardic 109 highest...running 98 lowest sitting down...l am having some headaches and of course good ole gas pains under my diaphram secondary to the carbon dioxide they injected in my abdomen during surgery...
Avatar m tn Within an hour after my auto accident I was diagnosed by CT that I had a hernia in my upper stomach where my surgery (cabg) was 5 months prior. No pain or bulge prior to accident. Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
440989 tn?1281001534 It is 4 weeks post laproscopic hiatal hernia repair. I am slowly healing. I am noticing my breathing has become more labored then pre surgery. First thing in the morning I am finding myself short of breathe immediately after standing up. Also, I have a second floor study and find myself breathing heavy after climbing the stairs. I have begun walking and doing breathing exercises which seems to improve the process. Is there anything else I can do?
2085202 tn?1373199740 Thank you very much! Yes, i'm going to try these measures first. I'm very much so considering the laparoscopic fundoplication surgery though if nothing helps. There is a doc here who specializes in Hiatal Hernia's. Thank you very much on this valuable information on the surgery. The Hital Hernia really is taking a major toll on me with all the pain, weakness, faitgue. Feel like a 27 year old trapped in an 85 year old mans body! Yes, no alcohol, no NSAID's. Have elevated the bed.
1577722 tn?1310624684 t really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia. I am due to have surgery in March. After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.
Avatar n tn So the heart doctor thinks that the chest pain is caused from the hital hernia and the acid reflux and thinks that having the chest pain as bad as I have it that surgery is needed for the hernia. I need some advice on this can anyone help me.
