The fact that your surgery is "soon" and not immediately necessary is indicative of your surgeon's assessment of the hernia and that the hernia is not imminently dangerous to your health at this time. 1654177 tn?1319838494 Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. The Nissen is done for both GERD or for a hiatal hernia....and there are many differing reports from members that have had the surgery....Flycaster had this surgery with positive results...you may want to have a chat with him.... I have not had it and do have a hiatal hernia and have found with modifying my diet and lifestyle I can get it under control.....stress will trigger the symptoms to flare....
Avatar f tn I have a quick question for those who have had the surgery. Is it worth it? I am a single mom of a 10 month old who has headaches, head pain, visual symptoms, ringing ears, etc and has recently found out that I have a chiari malformation. The neurosurgeon said that he recommended surgery and I told him that I would think about it. I'm not sure what to do. I read that it really is a 50/50 chance that surgery will fix things.
Avatar f tn She also said since it was not a vaginal birth sex was up to me and when I felt comfortable. I had no restrictions. I probably waited 4 weeks or so until I felt comfortable with how I healed/soreness.
Avatar f tn i am a 53 yr old woman with history of small hiatal hernia, some inflamation and health anxiety. I recently had a lump feeling in my throat and after endoscopy dr wrote I may have "esophageal motility." due to anxiety probably. he did not find any restrictions . or narrowing of esophagus.. I googled motility and found all kinds of scary things. I saw Systemic schlerosis and immediatly remembered that two years ago i had lichen schlerosis in skin.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum, Yes, we r told that lifting and straining will cause our symptoms to worsen or flare so A Dr that knows Chiari will deff suggest lifting restrictions..... Have u had a CINE MRI or MRI's of ur cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine to rule out disk issues, syrinx, tethered cord ? U also need to know if u have an obstruction of CSF or over crowding...that is what the CINE MRI is for this is more important then how long the herniation is...
Avatar f tn I don't think I've heard of restrictions like these for a single level fusion, do you have other things wrong with your neck? Generally, we're all placed on restrictions immediately following surgery, but once your fused they pretty much let you do whatever you want. I had no restrictions after I fused and my work was very physical at that time, I also worked with a guy that had had a 3 level and he pretty much did everything everybody else did.
Avatar m tn Within an hour after my auto accident I was diagnosed by CT that I had a hernia in my upper stomach where my surgery (cabg) was 5 months prior. No pain or bulge prior to accident. Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
7072585 tn?1387735006 Also, the dietary restrictions following the surgery are incredibly strict, people usually lose about 10 pounds. Further, one can't eat as much following the surgery unless they stretch the stomach. Also, days of drinking carbonated drinks and beer, etc. will be over forever, you can't burp very successfully. I hope that helps.
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar n tn A hydrocelectomy is typically performed on an outpatient basis with no special precautions required. The extent of the surgery depends on whether other problems are present. If the hydrocele is uncomplicated, the doctor makes an incision directly into the scrotum. After the canal between the abdominal cavity and the scrotum is repaired, the hydrocele sac is removed, fluid is removed from the scrotum, and the incision is closed with sutures.
Avatar f tn I can eat almost nothing - which includes nothing spicy or anything with any kind of sauce, no chocolate, no caffiene, nothing minty, no beef, nothing fried or containing over 10 grams of fat, nothing carbonated, nothing with citrus, no tomato /garlic /onion... in addition to these restrictions I also am on a coumadin diet (blood thinner) meaning nothing green, or anything with oils and certain other things containing vitaming K. This makes what I can have very limiting.
Avatar f tn I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
1684237 tn?1305217744 about a year ago I had a scope because it was becoming intolerable. The heartburn is actually pretty well controlled, it's the stomach pain that is causing me so much trouble. I finally decided in may to take the doctor's advice and have the surgery. I've been terrified ever since! Not particularly because of the surgery, but because of my anxiety issues. I've had problems with anesthesia in the past, waking up during procedures.
6288089 tn?1380112261 I so understand and no worries, this forum is here so u can vent and vent to others that do understand exactly how u feel. Make sure u get testing to see if u have a CSF obstruction as that is more a reason for surgery then to just have Chiari with symptoms....and make sure ALL related conditions are ruled out as so many can cause the same symptoms as Chiari...
Avatar f tn Thinking of having this surgery reversed. Have any of you had it done? I am having so many problems - GERD and reflux are just as bad as before the surgery. Taking Probiotics and Enzymes seem to help some - but Prilosec and the antiacids don't seem to work anymore.
Avatar n tn hi spiker i have severe copd and was rushed into hospital with pneumonia, they had to cut a hole in my throat and feed a breathing tube into it, i survived that operation no problems,so i am lying there with chronic copd a tempory trachea and serious pneumonia when i had terrible abdominal pains, it was discovered i had a strangulated hernia, which required a immediate operation or i would be dead in a couple of hours, the surgion said it was the biggest hernia tear he had ever come
Avatar n tn The positioning restrictions usually just apply until laser or cryo scars form or until a macular hole seals and gas is removed. Discuss your employment situation with your surgeon and ask for an estimate when restrictions will be lifted. Also you can go to your state's Vocational Rehabilitation department.
Avatar n tn But I am not aware of any life-long restrictions. Are there any things that your doctors have told you is forbidden following Chiari surgery?
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
Avatar m tn My doctor is chief hepatologist at the Liver Center at Beth Israel in Boston (2-hour drive). He teaches at Harvard, and the entire 4th floor of the Liver Center at Beth Israel is devoted to research, which he also is chief of. We're doing screening ultrasounds every six months, and they've remained unchanged for at least the last five years. My other hepatologist lives in the city I do and treats most of the HepC patients in this state.
