Avatar m tn I had a mesh put into my stomach wall to seal off a hernia. 8 months later i still have discomfort and mild pain in the pubic area. The pain radiates across both sides of the pubic area. It is impacting parts of my life. Has anybody had the same thing and what was done about it?
Avatar m tn Gastric bypass 2012, lap chole 2013, exploratory lap 2014, panniculectomy 2015, ventral hernia repair 2015, mesh removal from hernia repair with exp lap 2016, and recently open epigastric incisional hernia repair 2/21/2017. I am one month post op from recent surgery. Immediately upon opening my eyes from surgery I knew something was different. I had extreme pain, more pain then I've had with any surgery I've had.
1563109 tn?1295585149 Do you know what they used to repair your hernia? Do you have mesh? And, what has your doctor said when you asked that question?
Avatar f tn A family member has a new inguinal hernia. It's not super painful, but there's a bulge about the size of half an egg cut longways, which gets bigger when he coughs or anything, but then goes back down to egg-sized. It also gets sore when he does too much walking or gets constipated. He's only had this hernia 2-3 weeks. It hurt much more at first, and never been nearly as painful as when it first happened, but he has some pain a few times a day, but its not really bad.
Avatar f tn Some people are unfortunately unable to handle the mesh. You may need to consult with a specialist that can take a look at the placement of the mesh to figure out whether or not you may be one of them. In some individuals the mesh can move or start to curl and over the long run it can produce symptoms that can be fairly serious because of the location on the nerves and vasculature in that area. It's better to try to figure out the whole thing earlier rather than later.
Avatar f tn after my boyfriend had hernia surgery the Dr used mesh to cover the hole there is pinching and pulling on the left side where the hernia was, his surgery was July 29th, he still sleeps on the couch This discussion is related to Hernia complications.
Avatar m tn I just had my umbilical hernia surgery 2.5 weeks ago with mesh. If you have the surgery without mesh you could have another hernia as your putting strain down below and it could come through another weak point. It also can get bigger and quite ugly. It is your intestines that you are pushing and squishing back into your body. It's amazing how much we use stomach. Anything you do while working out, you will use your stomach muscles. A support belt would help you out.
1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
478868 tn?1209031705 I also had many other complications but they had to do an emergency surgery to repair it...I know the mesh Laney is talking about because I had that mesh under my original incision but from the constant nausea and dry heaves is what caused this to happen...but in your case they will most likely repair it as an outpatient surgery.....Good Luck and please keep us posted....
Avatar n tn Now I have just been diagnosed with a mesh infection and am having surgery 2/12/15 for mesh removal. There needs to be a class action lawsuit for us. Oh and my the way my mesh is Prolene mesh which has been recalled.
Avatar f tn Lifting that first week after surgery is usually really restricted to help aid recovery and impede complications. While my gut says 10 pounds or under should be okay for a brief minute lifting of a laptop . . . I'm not an expert. I do think so anyway. If you continue to have pain, then call your doctor without delay. And follow your physician's instructions from now on to a T.
Avatar f tn i have had chronic pain in my lower right abdomen for almost 8 years. what started out as a simple inguinal hernia repair has been a nightmare. the doc put the mesh patch in for "good measure". the adhesions are massive. from many doctors i have been diagnosed as having probably 3 nerve paths trapped in the adhesions. The inguinal, hypogastric and genital femerol nerves are all involved. After years and years of procedures I have not had any pain relief that lasted more than a day.
1166907 tn?1263101648 Hello and hope you are doing well. Unless there are complications it's unlikely that he may continue to have pain post surgery. The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. The precautions he will have to take will be, to first rule out if a diabetic or not. If he is one, then his blood sugars must be brought to euglycaemic levels.

3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
Avatar f tn This one product represented a tiny fraction of the mesh hernia repairs that have been done. There are now many variations and even mesh made from biological material such that surgeons can choose the ideal mesh for each situation. Risks such as infection are quite low. The best time to repair a hernia is when it is found.
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery 7 1/2 wks ago cannot believe the pain i have had. It was a spagelian hernia and I am a female. After surgery my incision & other private parts swelled up the size of a cantelope and turned black & blue , so pain full couldn't walk. bruising and swollen from upper thighs to belly button and around both sides. Said it's a hematoma. Used mesh but that's all I really know.
Avatar m tn would like to know if anyone out there has had any complications with the monarc sling/transvaginal mesh surgery? i am 56 yrs old, healthy, never had surgery til i had a hysterectomy followed by a bladder suspesion surgery last aug....did not have any leaking from bladder...all possible test were run...everything was fine...had prolapse uterus/bladder. the surgery went well & 8 wks/plus recoop went well...followed both the gynecologist & urologist order to a T....
Avatar f tn Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar m tn She had to undergo a somewhat atypical mesh insertion surgery to repair that. It is mostly since that time that she has been complaining of tiredness. Another symptom that we noticed very recently are a few black spots over her stomach that have been growing in number lately. We plan to speak with a general surgeon for the bowen's disease tomorrow. Though after that, we still need to figure out what needs to be done.
Avatar m tn i done inguinal hernia surgery 7 days ago with Bard Mesh, after 2 days of hospitalization, i got discharge from hospital. Everything was normal, after 3 days of surgery, i found out that there is rashes with itching all over body. When i approach with same problem to surgeon he advised me for tablet a day as this is kind of allergy, for first day tablet work properly. On second day, rashes reoccurred in session of 12 hours.
Avatar m tn Hiatal Hernia repair - recently I had surgery to repair a Paraoesophageal hernia. The following notes were written by the surgeon whom has moved to an unknown hospital and I can not contact. I am wondering if you can tell me whether or not the surgeon has used a mesh in the repair or simply just sutured it. He writes - Two 2-0 Prolene sutures to close diaphram with pledgets. One suture anteriorly. Snug closure over 52 Fr bougie. Redo 360 wrap with three 2-0 Novafil sutures. Hemostatis intact.
Avatar f tn Yes there are lawsuits pending regarding mesh, what is not being acknowledged is the complications are very often the result of certain drs doing procedures they should leave to experts. Of most significance is getting yourself back to health balance, I'm hopeful you can find a urogyn to guide you on this path. Check the AUGS site if you can't locate one. Let me know what you find out!
Avatar m tn A second exploratory surgery was performed to see if the femoral nerve was entrapped in any way with the mesh from the hernia surgery. The nerve appeared free from the mesh. I have had every nerve block available in my spine, in my pelvic region, and in my testicle. I have been on pain medication for over two years and have tried several nerve medications, (Nuerotin and Lyrica) to no avail. I am getting to the end of my rope with pain and options for treatment.
Avatar n tn I had a recent hernia repair with a biological mesh to replace a synthetic mesh that had become infected. Due to complications, I think a harsh reaction of my body to the biological mesh (although the doctors won't admit it), my left testicle has lost blood supply and died. It is extremely swollen to about the size of a baseball and it is very painful. A urologist and the surgeon both recommended to leave the testicle alone and not do another surgery and introduce more trauma.
Avatar f tn The urologist recommends no hysterectomy as after bladder is repaired the uterus will place correctly. I have researched and am aware that many women are having complications arising from mesh repair and am very apprehensive about the mesh repair. The urologist states it has not been an issue and that he believes many of those cases were caused by poor operative technique. I've heard of a repair using my own tissue grown however hear it is not as successful.
Avatar m tn However with that said I can suggest that you do exactly what is appears you are doing, research and learn everything you can about your condition and options available to you. I am assuming this surgery will be done with a mesh implant. The following is based on that assumption. Bare with me for a moment while I explain a bit about my experience. Although I don't have the same condition that you do, I have a similar one. I have a rare muscle(s) tear called a lumbar hernia.
Avatar f tn I also had a double tram flap done in 2004. In 2009 I had repair of hernia and mesh from hip to hip and rib to rib b/c the lining of my stomach was so compromised and weakened. I just last weak 7/23/2012 had a small bowel obstruction surgery, and the "tacks" used to keep the mesh in place were removed as they were sharp and actually cut the surgeons glove. I was not properly informed of all the possible complications or I would have just gotten the in plants!
