Common Questions and Answers about Hernia surgery laparoscopic

Avatar f tn Hi, it depends on the extent of meshing that needs to be done. Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
Avatar n tn Looks like a pocket of pus. I would recommend reconsulting the physician who did the LS (Laparoscopic Surgery).
1580703 tn?1651904887 The doctor examined me and found a groin hernia and I'm scheduled for surgery in sept. I think I want laproscopic but am I going to end up with permanent pain? will the mesh or non-tension method fail to stop the hernia from progressing? I think it's from the gym or coughing from this tracheotomy I'm getting this crippling nausea sometimes and sometimes protonix helps. is it from the hernia or diabetes or GERD? thanks!
1666825 tn?1303252659 There is a manual manipulation of the hiatal hernia that may help to see if it is the hernia...at least b4 u consider surgery.....check around ur area for a chiropractor that specializes in this....but do have ur heart checked first to be sure there is nothing else going on, and that ur GI agrees.
Avatar f tn Hey has anyone had a robotic Hernia surgery done before? I have two inguinal hernias and I wanted to know if the recovery time is quicker than a traditional laparoscopic? Thanks!
Avatar n tn This is a question that only your surgeon can really answer. It will depend on the extent of your previous surgeries, your tendency to form scar tissue or adhesions, your overall medical history, and your surgeon's level of comfort in using lap surgery in your case.
Avatar m tn I had laparoscopic surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. After 4 months, the hernia returned, and so I had a second repair surgery by incision. Now, 10 months after the second operation, I'm having some odd "tearing" pains and tenderness under the incision site, and down toward my groin. I'm trying to understand the geometry of the two repairs.
Avatar n tn Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....
Avatar n tn it should be very easy to tell from an external exam. exploratory laparoscopic surgery is not a good idea until other tests have been ruled out.
Avatar m tn An incisional hernia can occur years after a surgery, including a laparoscopic procedure. I have a hernia which has developed at the site where I had a procedure some time ago. The weakness in the abdominal wall is created by the incision, even a perfectly healed one. Then the wall is strained through excercise, heavy lifting and even weight gain causing the weaker portion of the abdominal wall to tear (herniate).
Avatar m tn What can I do? I have an extremely painful Hiatal hernia but cannot have surgery due to blood clots. Also, what alternative medicine is recommended? Please help. Thank You.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am having laparoscopic hysterectomy with ovary removel.(Brca gene) I have a one year old baby. I was told I can't pick up anything over 10pounds. No yoga or anything either . For 4 weeeks. Wow is this really true?? Is there a procedure with better post op recovery?
Avatar m tn If a patient has to much abdominal fat, it makes Laparoscopic surgery much more complicated and some times even impossible and then Surgeon has to do Open Fundoplication with more risks and even more complications. Make the decision today to go and see a Dietician and get on a healthy eating plan - almost like Weighless - by eating 5-6 small meals during the day and avoiding acid triggers.
Avatar f tn The procedure is a good choice for people whose hernias recur following traditional hernia surgery because laparoscopic methods allow surgeons to work around scar tissue from earlier repair. It's also good for people who have hernias on both sides of the body (bilateral inguinal hernias). Disadvantages of laparoscopic repair include an increased risk of complications and of recurrence following surgery.
Avatar m tn so you can imagine nowadays with advanced surgery procedures like laparoscopic surgery and all that good stuff it does not hurt, you won't feel a thing and there won't be any scars....trust me go see a doctor as soon as possible, they will be able to answer all your questions, and like i said before be wary of hernia's developing later on in life because i'm 24 now and i just developed a hernia 18 years after my surgery working out doing sit ups and playing soccer....
Avatar m tn s and so I concluded that the only hope to fix this problem was to close the hiatal hernia. I found one of the most recognized surgeons in Argentina who is also the head of surgery in the GI department at the best hospital in Argentina. He told me he had done at least a thousand of these surgeries. Faced with a lifetime of throat clearing and cough I threw the dice and decided to have it done. Today is 28 November and the surgery was performed on 15 Nov.
Avatar m tn I'm an 18 year old male and back in December (12/8/08), I had Laparoscopic surgery for an appendicitis. Then about a month later (January), I noticed that my left side near my belly button was a bit swollen. You see, because I had laparoscopic surgery..one of the incisions they had to make was on my belly button.Any who, I noticed it was swollen, but I had no pain. Recently, about 4 weeks ago, I'm starting to get this dull/achy pain near the belly button incision.
Avatar f tn The hernia I have is right next to where the laparoscopic surgery scar I have is. Mine is easily pushed in but never stays in. I have to hold it in when I bear down to use the restroom or it causes pain. My doctors are aware of my hernia, she has asked many times if I would like to get it fixed. I have opted not to do so. As of now I am not in any danger, so I am making a choice for myself.
14789551 tn?1436522262 effective to have a treatment done in India? Does Laparoscopic Hernia Repair In India is really at low cost?
Avatar f tn I am going to have open surgery (not laparoscopic) for repair of a hiatal hernia. Two years ago I had two critical levels for hemoglobin (3.5) and hematocrit, and needed a blood transfusion. After lots of tests, they never discovered any reason for the loss of blood. I had a lot of vomitting after eating, from the hiatal hernia. Presently, I often get severe chest pain from the hernia after eating even just a few bites of food.
Avatar m tn The tightness is not painful like I could have a heart attack but more irritating. I had surgery for a hiatal hernia and had laparoscopic fundoplication done and I also have scoliosis. I've been to a chiropractor for my tightness to see if that would help but it just came right back. Wonder if this could be related to my scoliosis.
Avatar f tn I went from your symptoms and situation to experiencing a loss of enamel on my teeth and burned vocal cords within a couple month period of time, I'd stay on top of it. The fact that the motility test showed difficulty in swallowing is troubling, as if you 'fail' that test, you won't be a candidate for the Nissen Fundoplication surgery using laparoscopic surgery, it involves more invasive surgical procedures. I'd discuss this with your doctor/surgeon.
Avatar m tn EsophyX™ TIF delivers similar benefits as the time-proven laparoscopic antireflux procedures, by reducing hiatal hernia, recreating the Angle of His, and creating a Gastroesophageal Valve (GEV). The key differences are that EsophyX™ TIF is a transorally performed non-invasive procedure (through the mouth), does not require incisions, and does not dissect any part of the natural internal anatomy.
Avatar m tn what is the success rate of Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication for life time and which doctor is best for this type of surgery..i.e. any laparoscopic surgeon or any specialist gastrosurgeon. Please help me soon as I hv lost my job due to the disease and me and my family is scared of getting cancer coz of it.
2085202 tn?1373199740 m very much so considering the laparoscopic fundoplication surgery though if nothing helps. There is a doc here who specializes in Hiatal Hernia's. Thank you very much on this valuable information on the surgery. The Hital Hernia really is taking a major toll on me with all the pain, weakness, faitgue. Feel like a 27 year old trapped in an 85 year old mans body! Yes, no alcohol, no NSAID's. Have elevated the bed.Getting to it. Thank you very much again. Happy Holidays! Take care.
18663 tn?1198171815 This generally involves a laparoscopic (tiny incisions) procedure to repair the hernia and then fashion the stomach in such a way to prevent further reflux through a procedure known as a fundoplication. If your gastroenterologist agrees that you probably need such a surgical procedure, you should go to a surgeon who has expertise in this operation and in laparoscopic surgery in general.
Avatar m tn There was no bulge, but I told my doctor it felt like a hernia. He gave me an exam and told me that it was a small inguinal hernia. I scheduled the surgery to have it repaired, but while waiting to have that done I would occasionally have this discomfort on the upper-left side of my scrotum. It felt like it was my testicle, and would knock the wind out of me if it brushed against my leg, but when I would feel them there was no pain in my testicles.
