Avatar m tn Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge, burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
Avatar m tn When they say inability to pass gas, is that what this is referring to because I am having a hard time passing this gas. I think I might have internal surgical adhensions.
Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia for 10 years and am in recovery from a repair ( key hole surgery ) to the hernia. Prior to the surgery I suffered with heart burn, waking up coughing acid reflux vomit, pain in my stomach ( over the diaphragm), bloating to the stage where I looked like I was 7 months pregnant, weight gain, wind and gave up alcohol, spicy foods and chocolate due to acid reflux.
638005 tn?1231520088 hi, did you have surgery to correct the hernia? if not then maybe thats causing the blocked feeling of gas in your stomach.
Avatar m tn do you suggest that i have surgery to repair my hernia? My doctor does not believe surgery is necessary and i trust him, but i am in discomfort every day. Do you think surgery will help me?
Avatar m tn This is the second time that I had a HIDA scan and in one year I have gone from 30 down to 26. I have no stones and very little pain. I have an umbilical hernia which has to be repaired with mesh and they suggested that they remove the gallbladder at the same time. Problem is that I lost a foot of intestine several years ago to diverticulitis surgery and I am afraid that if they remove my gall bladder , I will be unable to hold rushing to bathroom after eating.
18663 tn?1198171815 If your gastroenterologist agrees that you probably need such a surgical procedure, you should go to a surgeon who has expertise in this operation and in laparoscopic surgery in general. One quick word of warning – your gas pains can actually be made worse by this operation, but some over the counter Gas-X several times per day usually helps the situation quite a bit. Your surgeon should also discuss other surgical risks and side effects prior to any operation. Hope this helps, Dr. P.
Avatar m tn hi the surgeon who has diagonised as para umbilical hernia has done so only after physical examination.
Avatar m tn digesting the food was most pronounced during this time. What self-remedies, if any, can I do to heal the hernia, short of seeking surgery? What kind of hernia is this called, as "hiatal" doesn't seem to apply?
Avatar n tn t stopped the arrythmia but they said it was the non life-threatening type. After surgery, still had lot of gas. It eventually subsided. Meanwhile sometime in between all that, I had an endoscopy and all the gastroenterologist said was "Normal, no signs of GERD Damage. You do have a slight widening in the esophagus but lots of people have that. It's normal and harmless." Suggested a GERD diet and Zantac. It's been a few years since then (2013).
Avatar n tn It has been almost a year since my gallbladder surgery. Prior to the surgery I had pain that did not fit neatly into the diagnosis of a gallbladder problem. My ultrasound did show one small stone, however the pain did not come and go. I had the surgery, then continued to get worse! It has been a year now. I have had an upper and lower GI. Upper showed that I have upper Hiatus hernia, lower showed that I was completely healthy and normal.
Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia ( sliding) and am in recovery (4th month) after key hole surgery for repair to the hernia. I had the hiatus hernia for the 10 years and suffered all of your mentioned symptoms. It got to the point where I was getting hard stomach pains ( felt like I was punched in the stomach) and felt like I wanted to vomit. I took over my life and I was afraid of eating so many foods.
Avatar m tn The doctor said she could feel the scar tissue from my hernia repair surgery.. I don;t know if this is all true that I have ibs and adhensions. I have pain in my lowr abdomin and belly button area everyday. It is like a burning and pulling pain. Whenever I eat a big meal I get gas after. I have severe cramps, bloating and loads of gas almost everyday. Went to my gyno and had a ultra sound done. Everything was ok. I am at my wits end. The doctors don't seem to listen.
Avatar m tn My wife had the same problem you have to keep walking often during surgery the doctor puts a gas in the area to keep organs apart so the DR.
Avatar f tn I now have a 5.1 cm hiatal hernia, and my GERD is just as severe as prior to my surgery. I have been on 60 mgs of Nexium in the morning and 40 mgs of Zantac in the evening for three years. My Physician's Assistant has chosen to use 40 mgs of Priolosec for the hernia.
2085202 tn?1373199740 Everything is good. A recent visit to a G.I. that the Doc suggested I go to discovered a hiatal hernia in the top of my stomach. There is alot of pain from that. That is fine. It's just this not knowing and him merely saying "I think it's this or that accounting for the liver pain" without truly ever getting out of the dark with this. Could the hiatal hernia be responsible for this pain?
Avatar m tn Sometimes when Im talking I get terrible chest/upper abdominal discomfort then it goes aways after a bit. I had this symptom before surgery and it has me worried. I dunno if its my hital hernia coming back, costal chondritis or, suture reaction. My surgeon in seattle said he thinks I have a visceral or generalized GI disorder. Can you try and help me?
Avatar n tn It is not wise. Gas, bloating pressure etc is expected. “Right after surgery it may seem that you have a lot of gas almost all the time. Most abdominal surgery is followed by this uncomfortable, embarrassing, yet harmless symptom. As the tissue swelling goes down, you will have less gas. But certain foods, such as eggs, cabbage, broccoli, onions, fish, beans, milk, cheese, and alcohol may cause gas. Eating regularly will help prevent gas. Skipping meals to avoid gas or output is not smart.
Avatar n tn just had my surgery for gerd a year ago im haveing prolem not able to vomit or reless gas and haveing shrap pain just below where the rib come together have no engery feel sleepe all the time would liken to know whats going on thanks
749700 tn?1234838207 Is it common after 2 major hernia repairs (which were over a year ago), to have a lot of gas, bloating, difficulty swallowing immediately after eating or drinking? The surgeon said that it was normal but the last surgery was over a year ago and most I have talked with that has had this surgery do not have these issues. One of my other surgeons has stated that since the last surgery I have contracted IBS and a spastic colon. Why would this have occurred if the surgery was a success?
Avatar n tn There could still be some CO2 gas in her abdomen leftover from the surgery. Sometimes it can take a few days before the body absorbs it. If the pain is better when she's laying down with her hips higher than her head, it's probably the gas. When is her followup appointment scheduled? It won't hurt to give the doc's office a call tomorrow and run these questions by them.
Avatar f tn I am very afraid and sadden by his condition, perineal hernia. He had surgery a couple weeks before X-mas a year ago, thankful it has only been one. But the vet never told me before or after costly surgery that this would be life long. I excepted the challenge because the love I have for my animal. I have tried everything from peas and carrots in his food, fiber, laxatives, olive oil, psyllium seed, etc.
